So this is probably my new favorite worth it episode. I'd like to point out a few things that made this episode particularly awesome: -Full meals instead of single dishes: An experience that is generally much more comprehensive in a restaurant, as many places design their menus around the way different courses play with each other. I would definitely love to see more episodes with them in the future! -Tasting menus: I know they're expensive, but the best restaurants out there make some insane tasting menus with all kinds of crazy flavors, textures and presentations in every dish. Seeing the crew experience one like this was awesome! -Andrew as a host: I freaking love Andrew. He's such a chill, honest guy who is awesome at taking the lead when it comes to these interviews with the chefs. More of him, please! -The ending with the coffee: Very heart-warming and family like way to end the episode. I wish more episodes would finish like this! -And finally: The detour at The Cheesery. You guys have already done detours like this one in the past, but I felt like this time there was a bigger focus on that detour and I honestly loved it! All in all, awesome episode, please do more like this one:)

the only reason they did full meals in this one is to give more context to the dessert specifically. the whole premise of the show is trying just three different dishes, and that shouldn't change

These restuarants are like a Weekly, Monthly, Yearly endeavor. El Cocinito you could eat at once a week. A go to joint. Alta Adams is a monthly treat that you splurge on with, not too often but something to really look forward too. And Spagos' is the Anniversary/Celebration place you go for that special event of the year. Some meals in your life are so good that you NEVER forget them and they change the way you experience food for the rest of your life.

I really like how creative the high end restaurant, Spago, was. It really felt like less they were just paying for expensive ingredients and more having a private showcasing of these artists' works. You can tell each dish has a lot of thought and care put into them from the taste to the presentation to how they work with the other dishes. She even found a way to make the S'moyster work. That feels like the kind of experience I'd want to have if I were to spend that much on a meal.
@goldcd3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. Some are great recipes I could make myself. Some are great ideas, I didn't have a recipe for. And then some are just 'didn't think of that, couldn't make it, I'll pay you"
@recoil533 жыл бұрын
Well they also get the budget to think about stuff, play around with things, and get all the tools and ingredients to get it right. Their customers will bay too - that final meal (meal + dessert) was $235. Doesn't matter how well conceived and executed your food idea is when it's that expensive at a regular restaurant.
@battimano3 жыл бұрын
Really good observation. It wasn’t the classic nonsense of just “throw caviar, gold, and truffle on it and charge $1k” - caviar and truffle were even part of the dishes, but they felt so meaningfully incorporated.
@joshuadalton60633 жыл бұрын
Very much this. Going from average restraunt to higher end (but not michelin) you do pay more for the quality ingredients they use not just for the process. Then with michelin and the best of the best, you pay for the quality ingredients too, but then a lot goes into the process and presentation and experience (and profit). But Spago definitely felt like they had pushed the envelope and you are getting a lot of the journey they went through to create it!
@joshuadalton60633 жыл бұрын
@@recoil53 I wouldn't call it a regular restraunt lol but... I have had a couple dinners at higher end restraunts, and it is definitely worth the pricetag for what was basically just the same food as at a regular restraunt, but with much higher quality ingredients and the taste as a result. But I haven't yet been to michelin and had the experience aspect, but I can definitely say $235 while expensive, when you compare it to other experiences you can have for that price, IDK if you are into food its definitely worth it.

I LOVE this show. Happy you moved to this new venue. Would be delighted to see a seafood episode, or break it down into specifics…a shrimp episode, lobster episode, fish episode, etc. Also, a potatoes episode (so much to choose!), and lastly, SANDWICHES. You touched on it with the Cuban, but there are incredible sandwiches at vastly different price points ;) So much fun! Congrats all!

Suggestion: at the end of an episode, while choosing your favorites, make the price more of a factor in your conversation. Considering it’s a “worth it” episode I think that would make a great part of the ending conversation rather than just in the intro before anything is tasted. Excellent and fun episode as usual. Do many, many more episodes.

It could be that now Steven's the secondary host since he left Buzzfeed. If I'm not wrong, before he was the main host as he created the show concept. The concepts feel different somewhat too so I'm guessing Andrew's the main showrunner now while Steven was the one before.

This return to Worth It might have resulted in my favourite episodes of the entire series; and I thought it was hard enough to beat with the Japan episodes. Really hope to see more, 'cause these are nothing short of a delight! Also, Wolfgang friggin Puck just showing up out of nowhere like it's nothing! Like no fanfare or introduction or whatever, but suddenly there's this world-class chef 'cause idk I guess he felt like it? What a legend!

@@crayzpimp8 I was about to comment on that, he barely said anything in the end and throughout the show, it felt like he was forced to be there. Or you could do a series about the cuisine of indigenous north americans! I think most people out there know next to nothing about it, and it’d be really interesting to learn about food sources they might use from their local environment, how they might cultivate their food differently, how they treat their land to keep it healthy, and how we could learn a lot from them about incorporating local food sources!
@gelliebellie8323 жыл бұрын
You could make a series about how we can learn a lot about food and cooking from lots of different marginalized groups that may not typically get as many opportunities to share and teach as they deserve!

I'd like to see a Worth it featuring a trio cuban sandwiches with a trip to Miami to top it off. Can you still travel to Cuba? What a trip that would be.

The Cuban sandwich is really a Miami thing. No need to go to Cuba.
@deprofundis32933 жыл бұрын
They need to do one episode about Cuban sandwiches (more of a Cuban-American thing) AND an episode on Cuban entrées, which most people are seriously sleeping on! The mojo chicken at Versailles Cuban restaurant in LA is SO good that my bf at the time's mom, who had emigrated from Cuba, brought us there. Despite cooking from home almost all of the time herself. It was good enough to warrant going. But I'm sure there are other Cuban restaurants in the area worth trying - that was a super casual place.
