I’m back again Mr. Dolsama, I keep reviewing your tutorials here on KZbin and Patron, I find I cannot grasp all the information in just one viewing. Today I found a very helpful concept of using a one point perspective , drawing the eye back into the painting. No matter where you are; land, sky or beach I was pulled back to this point. Thank you for offering your time and talent, it is so appreciated. Lindsay

I'm really pleased to hear my videos are helpful, Lindsay! And you're right, one point perspective is a simple and yet effective way to draw the eye into the painting. I use it a lot.

Hello Mr. Dolsma, and thank you so much for your instructions. Funny how the subconscious works with imagination; I've always loved Constable's work. Especially the one you presented here. I've also had the fortune to travel to Florence for an up-close marvel at Brunelleschi's wooden model of the Duomo. It makes sense that these and other deeply moving moments have been inspirations to my works. Now, I need to pull from these resources and focus on their intent. Ahh, she says. Duh...

Thank you for your kind comment. Confrontations with the work of the masters can indeed be defining for your own work. Like my Ruisdael moment. Hope your moments are as fruitful as mine were back then :)

Once I began to study J.M.W Turner and look into his lectures on perspective, my sketches took a huge leap in skill. I am learning almost entirely by studying the masters and making master copies after my introductory sketch course in 2018. I have improved greatly with practice, and cannot stress enough the importance of the masters. I love them to death, and we owe them everything if we wish to become a link on the chain that connects all artists.

It's nice to know that someone of your artistic caliber will alter the reference photo. I do this all the time, but in my case it's to make the painting easier 😆

I adapt my reference photos for different reasons, one of which still is (don't tell anyone) to make the painting easier. For the rest it's mostly compositional changes.

Just came across your channel. I am in a solute awe of your work. Whay you do is so beautiful I could cry. You're an incredible painter. I want to learn everything from you to try to convey 1% of the emotion you're conveyeing. I want to throw so much money your way in tutorial videos, trainings, and ao on. Your work is incredible. Just one tip: get professional help for sound recording. Sound mattters just as much as the picture when it comes to video. The clicket-y saliva sounds can be a bit distracting for some people.
@PaintingSkies12 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind comment, it's really appreciated. I agree, the mouth sounds can be pretty annoying. After reading your comment I went on the internet and found a few useful tips to prevent them. Some are software solutions (declickers), but the ones I'm going to try first are more practical: take a sip of water every 20 lines or so and chew gum prior to the recording. Thanks for the tip!

Janhendrick- The Old Masters would certainly welcome you as a peer or even a teacher. I am much more drawn to your work than anything thing from the 17th century. Your compositions are always well thought out and subtly fall into the recognized principles. I like that they are more hidden in the work. It's usually not until the third or fourth viewing that I become aware of how you've lead my eye around and through the scene.
@PaintingSkies12 жыл бұрын
That's a great compliment, Michael, thank you! Still, my work would be impossible without their example. On top of that I'm convinced their work looked a lot fresher back then, especially with regard to color. Nevertheless, thank you!

Hai mai pensato di dipingere il cielo da una terrazza altissima, e non vedere il confine tra il cielo e il mare. Solo nuvole e luce, in pratica l'infinito? ❤️
