Last minute change to my guitar case was to substitute formica rather than abs. Turned out totally custom and extremely durable. Thanks for the videos!

Probably not as Tongue & Groove as well as Double Angle Extrusions are all designed for use with standard plywood + 0.040" ABS Laminate. If you must use 0.060" laminate you'd need to remove 0.020" of plywood to make things fit just right.

@00019741974 There are many variables that must be considered. First the “A” side of the plywood and smooth side of the ABS must be dust-free and clean. An adhesive that will bond plywood and ABS is critical. Additionally high humidity and moisture content of the plywood can cause problems.

Our ABS is 0.040" thick - Hope this helps.

@00019741974 I’ve included the link to the 3M Hi-Strength 90 instruction sheet below. Finally proper pressure to eliminate air pockets (working from the inside towards the outer edges) along with overnight pressure using heavy weights or clamps on the panels will insure a proper bond. If this is your first laminating project try a small test piece to prove your technique.

Thank you.

What kind of spray adhesive are you using? Is 3M Hi Strength 90 Contact Adhesive comparable or better? Thanks!! Great video.

@00019741974 Sorry - can't post the link. Please go to the Reliable Hardware site and click the detail pages for individual laminates - you'll find the link there.

hi i been trying to laminate my panels exactly same way as you doing on this video but i having trouble doing this because when i expose the case under the sun this black abs gets really hot and it start making bubbles and the abs peel apart from the plywood so how can i avoid this?

cut your laminate a bit oversize then grab your router with a flush trim bit

i'm planning to build drum cases out of 5mm plywood for lightness and wrap it in sheet steel for resilience. comments?

Would it make sence to put the plywood on top of the abs? I just imagine it to be less fiddily :)

Do you know if .060 would work? Thanks!

Or just buy the Ply with the ABS already attached and not have to deal with this step at all! (great time saver)

Ok so here's the Big question, How well does that laminate go over T-Nuts that are used for mounting rack rails?
@genebienz83028 жыл бұрын
+Evil Plman Don't use a t-nut under the laminate . Go into the rack from the outside with a carriage bolt .
@reliabledan8 жыл бұрын
+Evil Plman I agree with Gene. Carriage bolts are low profile and will work best.
@evilplman27608 жыл бұрын
reliabledan How do you avoid having a bump From the head of the carriage bolt? Boring in to the side to hide the head of the bolt, weakens the structure, especially if you are using your rack to hold heavy weight power amps that require front and rear rails.
@genebienz83028 жыл бұрын
+Evil Plman The head of the carriage bolt will sit ontop of the abs , nothing but wood under the abs .

+gene bienz the Reason I asked is because I am restoring an old Anvil Rack, Anvil used t-nuts to mount the rack in this case. The other Question I have for you, is: Is there a Video somewhere showing how to Properly install the Surface mounted Twist Latches like Part Number RH-2392?

Can you use the shiny side up?
@reliabledan7 жыл бұрын
This is not advisable. The shiny side provides the needed surface area for the adhesive to adhere to. Call us at 800-757-5270 for more details.
@MichaelMendozaMagic7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. Is there any product in your store that provides a shiny sided ABS lamination for flight cases? Thanks in advance :)

How thick of plywood are you using? Are there standard sizes that fit standard extruded aluminum banding?
