The guy who wrote the Cloudpeak Wilderness story will write a great book I’m sure, as long as he refrains from saying “if you catch my drift” 300 times 😂 It was super interesting and had me wanting to know more!

Can someone please tell him that the phrase is meant to be used with euphemisms? I thought he was banging his friend until he mentioned them being like brothers, because he used “if you catch my drift” incorrectly/unnecessarily. Also, he wasted so much time talking about irrelevant things. He could have started with, “My best friend and I were hiking in/at….” As an editor, he wouldn’t be a good writer (not for non-fiction, anyway) because of the superfluous nature of his writing.

A small detail that made the first story hard to believe is that the protagonists who are meant to be very experienced backpackers didn't carried any water purification tools, that's like one of the very first lessons you learn when you have to plan around. If OP wants to write a book he can't go the "oh no, the two of us forgot our filters" route, even if they forget to bring their filters to Wyoming the first thing they would have probably done is to buy at least one more, (yes they're that vital) or at the very least buy cheap water purification tablets.

My dad is a biologist and has heard of people out on field work in the desert seeing a specific hallucination of a child who finds them and runs away, and the person runs to try and find them and they never do. It's probably because you're lonely and your brain needs stimulation, plus some dehydration maybe. It just reminded me a bit of the first story.

I live in AZ and can confirm a bark scorpion sting is not even hospital worthy unless you have an allergic reaction. Just keep the stung spot above heart level for a few hours and you're good, but baby bark scorpion stings can be fatal as adult only let out some venom to incapacitate. The babies however let it all out. Also a tip if anyone comes across a bark scorpion don't crush them they carry the babies on their back so crushing them sends the babies everywhere and now you got a new problem.

As someone who got stung by a bark scorpion, you know when part of your body falls asleep and when you try waking it up it has like a tickling feeling all around it? Instead of tickling, it replaces with an unbearable pain and it gets worse by every pulse. And that’s from the baby scorpions!

In the first story I'm guessing that young girl was kidnapped. There is no other way she could have learned to speak when the people she lived with could only bark. At some time in her life she had to have had a real family and normal surroundings where she heard words in order to speak them properly.

Mmmhmm. It would definitely be the case that she was kidnapped as a young child with some ability to speak/knowledge of words but not full fluency. Would explain why she spoke broken English and looked nothing like everyone else. There's no way in hell she just happened to be a genetic miracle and learned to speak English in the midst of a family of inbred chinless blonde people who bark and speak gibberish. (Suspense of disbelief is being employed here. As in the thing that allows you to interact with fiction and unverifiable non-fiction as if it were real.)

That last story was actually very lucky. I've lived in AZ my whole life and the worst sting I've seen was when my friend was bit by a Brown Recluse Spider, the venom actually dissolves tissue (which non of us knew) so a day or so later when it still hurt like hell and wasn't getting better she showed us the bite and with a press a lot of....um...stuff came out and she had to go straight to the ER. The desert has some creepy-freaking-crawlies in it.
