"The Internet tricks us into thinking we're smarter than we actually are," is one of the best takes I've heard in a while.

The worst thing is that if you have "brain rot", the last thing you feel like doing is challenging it. Because "if I can barely focus on watching a movie, then learning something new would be impossible"

Small steps 🙂 I've ADHD but it's got worse because I didn't have as many distractions when I was younger because they simply didn't exist at the time (I'm 44), but I've started to limit the number of short videos and watch more video essays, which has helped me go back to reading books
@Killicon935 ай бұрын
@@lismarcel I installed Unhook which lets me hide elements on youtube. I've used it to hide the shorts, home page and the recommended feed and when I find my ADHD getting bad I hide my subscriptions page.

Photography is a simple and cheap hobby because we all have phones. The principles of composition or working with light are the same regardless of what gear you have. And it's a great way to simply lose yourself and be creative for a few hours.

👍and already subscribed. Mind sharp and engaged as I aproach 70. Haven't had a TV since 1992. Plenty of hobbies and exercise. But, I am experiencing burnout and overwhelm from dealing with my partner's mental and physical issues related to aging. Learning how to take care of us both is definitely putting new wrinkles on my brain.

Have you thought of talking about depression, and how when one is depressed you can often find it difficult to get into hobbies? Things you might depend on to get you through the day.

I've been teaching myself how to play new instruments by watching KZbin videos. I have a small fiddle I picked up in Peru years ago, and I rarely ever play it. You're welcome to it. I just need to remember to put it in my luggage the next time I'm visiting the Uni of Edinburgh.

Nine, almost ten years ago, I finally had the opportunity to chance to start learning to play violin, which was a life long dream of mine. Despite being severely dyslexic, I seem to have an aptitude for learning languages, it is the motor skills and a complete lack of rythmn that is holding me back.

learning to play an instrument has the same benefits as learning a language, according to neuroscientists. And the benefits of language learning are large.

I don't want to learn a new language, my voices insult me in English, I don't need insults in another language. I think you're really great, and I suspect a lot of people like your channel! I wonder though how you see yourself? I think my mind is kept young by reading music for guitar. A really great musician can sit down at almost any piece of sheet music and play it. A musician who is intermediate has to take time most of the time to figure out a piece of music like a puzzle. I'm the latter.

YouTiber: "Would you like me to make a video..." Audience: "Yes, yes yesyesyes" (inspired by Edna Mode) also, Question: What is required to consider oneself "bilingual"? I'm in that weird position where I grew up speaking German (and it's still a much used language as I still live in the German speaking part of Switzerland) but I only ever think and even dream in English.
@gingersal80526 ай бұрын
It's a complex concept, traditionally it meant speaking another language almost as fluently as your mother tongue, but now it's more seen as your ability to communicate in another language, in spite of grammar or lexical mistakes. I consider myself trilingual but I still make many mistakes in my two target languages, especially when I'm tired.
