So much fun to watch these two clowns! And the coloring is gorgeous. That green!!!!!!! Never seen a green so rich and inviting. I have to find that shade and use it. Nature's color palette is incredible. Obviously these Caiques love you and interact with a great deal of trust and affection. What is the routine care for these parrots - beaks, nails, anything else? What do they eat? FYI for viewers: These birds live 40 yrs, make a great deal of noise, need specialty vets, require CONSTANT interaction, need experienced owners to understand bird signs of sickness/diseases/care, and are not for the casual pet owner. Birds are the descendants of dinosaurs. They are not accessories, 'cute pets', or image enhancers, or novelty items. They are especially not garden fixtures to be ignored. There are too many cases of bird abuse and neglect which is horrifying and shameful for the human race. Do not cage an animal and abuse it with neglect because it looks so cool on KZbin, or to make KZbin movies. They have feelings, high intelligence, and high emotional needs as social animals. Its a lifetime commitment. Worse than raising a child which takes only 20 yrs. Do not get birds of any kind, especially parrots which are very social flock animals, if you cannot put in the work involved. It looks cute on KZbin but a big part of your life will revolve around the birds. Noise is a concern with neighbors too. A stressed out parrot will pull out its feathers and you will feel guilt all the time. Do not get a parrot unless you are 100% committed to its care for 40 yrs. The macaws will outlive you at 150 yrs lifespan so you need a backup person or two that is familiar with the bird who will take over its care and not dump it at a shelter.
@doveypoo Жыл бұрын
Amen! Thanks for saying this. Some people see them on KZbin or TikTok and think you can buy them, throw them in a cage, and take them out to record them and they will magically just talk. Having a bird in the parrot family is like having a human toddler for however long that bird’s lifespan is. They aren’t just cutesy little purse dogs or cats that are independent and basically take care of themselves. Don’t get a bird unless you are prepared to dedicate hours a day to it every single day!

I only just learned about these things’ existence and I have been loving binging Caique videos... I would love to have one but I have no experience owning birds and I know they require a ton of stimulation and attention to be cared for properly and that they can get very possessive, hostel and aggressive towards other pets in the house if they become jealous or feel neglected. I have a dog who is a half husky and huskies are also known as a breed that requires a great deal of engagement and activity so I won’t underestimate the maintenance required of a bird like that... However I will continue to enjoy the fruits of all the other people who put in the effort of owning Caiques on KZbin’s labor because these little squeaky winged clowns are some of the most entertaining pets I’ve ever seen in my life... I still can’t believe it’s common for them to lie on their backs and allow their bellies to be played with while they kick upward like a cat or a dog; I’m not very familiar with birds but I have to wager that is an extremely rare characteristic for birds and watching them play is so fun

yeah theyre not like other birds...because they got these small feathers. They like to play on their backs and really tend to just...LITERALLY LIE DOWN for hours if they feel safe. WHich is already super unnormale for birds which usual dont AT ALL like to be on their backs or their back feathers squishing up against stuff...But these ones are just the polar opposite of that. They like pretty much everything other birds dont like and perform...allright in things other do. See how silent they are? Yeah very unnormal for birds to. THey really are the perfect pet birds. If youve ever seen one.. THOSE are it...not budgies and cokatiels which are ALSO sweet but...like to be loud and fly and not like to be on their back and in small places. These ones...LOVE small places. Theyll crawl into them immediately.

Well done Aiden. There is a Facebook group calls Caique Parrot Lovers. It's the go to place for the Caique companion pet community. Lots of hilarious posts, but it takes time for them to learn some of the things you will see the birds doing there. One thing is we let our birds sleep under our bed sheets between sunset and when we go to sleep. They love it, especially when it's a cold time of the year.

It’s my dream to have at least one. I’ll be happy bec I know they’ll entertain me endlessly. Caiques!! My dream bird!! ( but he is overdoing it too much I think). My parakeet ( I had 2) bit the heck out of me when I first got him. It took a while but he got around to pretending to bite me. I was mom and you don’t bite mom. Unfortunately, I live in an area with a lot of animals ( birds, rabbits,etc) and a small mouse got in my screen windows and went for their food. Lots of activity in their cage that night , but I thought one had fallen off its perch. Woke up that morning to two dead birds. It’s been 5 months and I’m still not over it. If it didn’t bite then, it’s easy to scare them to death. Their little hearts are in the front of their chest and if they panicked trying to get away and flew into the cage barrier too many times, it could kill them. I don’t want to go through more months of training. Next time, it’s definitely caiques ( btw, the cat got the mouse)

@Emmett Brosnan Birds that feel territorial also exhibit forward aggressive behavior which can be repeated if the negatively associated stimuli is reintroduced. So i wouldnt solely use repetition as criteria for positive approval in animal behavior. Fortunately i know these birds are hearty and are expressing positive vocalizations and it likely is not super painful for the bird. My main concern is that if a bird is about to molt, a loose feather can be easily be partly pulled during the “tail feather pull flip” he does here and blood loss from a loose feather can cause the bird to bleed profusely. Since birds dont have the ability to clot wounds or pin-feathers as well as other animals can, the blood loss could cause damage to the bird and id imagine that would break both their owner’s heart and wallet in vet costs.

Good to hear. Your relationship will continue to grow with her for years to come as mine have. We have all learnt how to play better over time. Me with them and them with me. She will play in the right circumstance and encouragement. Best to start while she is still young if you can find a way. Mine play mostly indoors and mainly on the bed. I put them there each night and we have a short play if they're not too tired. They respond to both gentle and rough depending on their mood, and body language. Let me know how you go over time. The Caique Lovers Facebook page is a good info source if you're not already onto it. They are quite new to aviculture, so we are all learning.

Justin Blackburne My bird is playing more but only when I’m “snuggling” with her, I just lay on the bed and she attacks my face, Idk if I should get two as my cage is the minimum for caique cages (still large but only a little over minimum in height) and I do have school, my dad just watches tv and my mom tries to get her out but I know both of them don’t get her out anyways, and I wonder if she needs a buddy, and I don’t want to waste time before she becomes older since it would probably be better to introduce another bird when they’re both young

How does owning a caique compare to owning say a high energy dog? I have a cockatiel that I hand reared and so far, it’s been very rewarding and hasn’t taken up too much time, especially now that he/she is weaned. They’re perfectly happy to just chill with me all day when I’m working. But dogs are louder, messier, bigger and require a lot of attention and space to exercise yet I’ve heard all of those reasons used as reasons not to get a caique. I’m only wondering why they’re not more popular as pets, they just seem like flying puppies to me. You’ll have to excuse my ignorance on this, I’ve only kept budgies and a cockatiel and I appreciate caiques are different but are there any major drawbacks I’m missing?

Do your birds ever bite hard to draw blood. I keep reading how aggressive they are when they reach 3-4 years old. I am in love with their personality, but don’t want a bird that will attack me
@justinblackburne27954 жыл бұрын
Hi Rose. My birds never bite me.. If I got bitten I would have deserved it. They are quite smart and know if you're treating them well. The only time they get aggressive is when we head away and have to board them somehow. They seem to get stressed being in a cage for longer periods like when we go out of town and can't bring them with us. The mood lasts for 1 to 2 days and then it's back to normal. Personalities can play a part. Mine have differing personalities. One has a shorter fuse than the other, but you can still tell if the shorter fuse bird is upset ahead of a bite as they communicate through body language. The key is to read parrots body language and work with it. Good luck..

Nice work. I never found having 2 Caiques as a negative except when they scream. Ours never fought other than the odd squabble. 2 Caiques can be quite a handful in their own. Adding a female to the mix may spoil the party. Hormones will do their thing at some point and their behaviours can change. I've had 2 sexes in eclectus and I have vowed never again unless you're willing to cage them separately.
@Marvel_vs_Capcom843 жыл бұрын
@@justinblackburne2795 Lol thanks for the tip, I gather your pretty much saying it's a bad idea to add a female to the mix and for the record if I did they would all be in the same cage of course I would upgrade to an even bigger size macaw kind of cage , But again if you are advising against adding a third female caique I will reconsider since you do have more experience then I do with caiques..
@justinblackburne27953 жыл бұрын
@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 I'm glad you floated the idea first. I would only get same sexes, and especially if you're housing them together. Two guys and one girl is a recipe for disaster imo. I think you'll likely get fights and injuries to both the birds and yourself. You could see their personalities change when they know there is a chance for breeding. Also, personally I found that having 2 birds in our house as the sweet number. With 3 or more birds I've found it impacts your relationship with the birds and you can't get that strong relationship like you can with one or two. And it's hard to turn back once you've committed to more than 2 and then wish you hadn't.

Hello, Justin I ask you for help my 150-day - old caique parrot has been crying and screaming constantly for the last 15 days, especially when it is placed on my hand or shoulder outside the cage, I am in a very difficult situation, I am sad what do you think I should do to recover from this situation, it is very dependent on me, not sick or hungry, you have encountered such a situation. Sincerely.
@justinblackburne27953 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I'd suggest joining Caique Parrot Lovers in Favebook. They are very helpful with things like this. The screaming can be a natural caique specific trait. You will see this topic discussed a lot in the group. Crying and screaming can be either good or bad depending on the situation. for example, screaming can be a sound Caiques make when they are happy. Put a video of your bird. Making the sounds on the Facebook page and you will get better quality feedback. It could just be baby sounds that they grow out of.

It should be easy for you to find them handraised. I got my guys flown over from brisbane at around 4 months of age from Ian Adcock. He is an old school breeder living in Northern nsw and he partners with a wonderful hand raiser who really knows her stuff and cares a lot abiut what happens with the birds. She lives on a rural property out of Brisbane. She will hold birds for a while after they've weaned to ensure nothing is rushed. You can google and find his number as a Caique breeder.

@justinblackburne27954 жыл бұрын
Hi Nugget. When you spend a lot of time with them, it's quite easy. Their personalities are different plus they have slightly different marking and features around the face and head which helps. I can usually also tell by the slightly different tones of their sounds.
