Thank you for filming this series on floor sleeping. It’s such an inspiration! We started our “furniture free” transition after watching Movementum’s apartment tour on KZbin. We lowered the dining table to 35cm high and then, months later, did the same to our office desks. Now we're getting rid of our bed frame and, after we move, buying a latex topper to sleep on.

I started with only a yoga mat. Now I have a thin kapok roll mat and two duvet cover on top of a tatami. 1 month in and I like it but I can't really tell more about since i don't have many physically issues at the moment. I dont have any pain, but I would recommend to start with a thicker futon or something. Thank you for spreading the word to living a more natural life. ❤

Thank you for sharing! So you will continue sleeping like that? ☺️

It still feels good to sleep like this and I feel like I have less tension in my body. It just feels natural. ❤ Greetings

I started with sleeping without a pillow and transformed step by step all the way to floor sleeping. I think most problems comes actually with a pillow. Once I tackled pillow first, got used to it, there wasn't anymore a challenge to sleep in the floor.

You're right! If you look at children, they don't need a pillow! I recently bought a buckwheatpillow because sleeping without one was just a bit too much.

Thank you for your comment it helped, what type of pillow are you using? Are you sleeping mostly on your back? Side or front?

Thank you for your insights in this topic! I sleep on the floor for one year now, based upon my experiences ... while camping! The thin mattress was perfect during the three weeks in a tent. The problem with dust or mold is easy to fight: I sleep on a yoga mat (8mm thick) with a futon ( 3 cm thick) and both are easy to place in the sun or outside to let them become fresh. Every morning I just take 'my bed' this makes the room free. I also live on the floor (furniture free) and this helps tremendously with (hip) flexibility and mobility, especially when your body gets older.

I started sleeping on the floor a few months ago and I am constantly evolving in the way I sleep and it is still a bit of an adjustment. I use multiple pillows for my knees and head. For my neck, I mostly use a neck roll or a bolster type of pillow made with buckwheat husks which I was able to adjust to the right level of thickness for me. I need to get a body pillow and a tatami mat. That's next. I enjoy sleeping on the floor because it's cooler and I find it easier to do my stretches because I'm not sinking into the bed. I still have a little back pain, but that's because of previous injuries, however, I'm in for the long-haul benefits. I even have an inflatable camping mattress to carrying with me when I travel. Great video and thanks for the updates.

I like your cover of floor sleeping. It seems like a lot of videos only have good things to say about futon-style sleeping without preparing people for the drawbacks! Keep it up!!

Thanks for the comment! Like with everything, our bodies adapted for so long to the regular beds, it will take some time to adapt out of that.

Great information, thanks for sharing your experience! Any update on the pillow situation? I started sleeping on the floor a few months ago. Sleeping on the back with a little air inflated pillow to support my head is currently the most comfortable position. But I also roll around side to side a lot, so alternating between these three positions. After a few weeks I was able to ditch the pillow to support my knees, when sleeping on the back. Which is why it would be interesting to get an update in regards to supporting positions with your arms/hands, if that numbness goes away or leads to more movement during the night. My current setup uses a very thing military foam pad, with a wool blanket on top. Contemplating upgrading to a tatami mat + futon for a more comfortable sleep.

Thanks! 20 Years ago I slept on the floor for 1,5 years, because I had a waterbed and one day I could not move my body when I woke up. Sleeping on the floor felt hard, but was good for my body. Now at 49, I would like to start sleeping on the floor again.
@BarRookie6 ай бұрын
Awesome!! Good luck! What made you not stick to sleeping on the floor back then?

I either need a new bed or futon. I know that I always sleep better on the floor. Its just hard making the decision. I saw that one tatami mat weighs 66 lbs. i only weigh 113. I do not sleep well on my 14 year old bed and definitely need something. I get so tired every day working as a financial analyst. I need quality sleep. I am a side sleeper too and gave up my pillow this week. I use my hand too but decided to use a hand towel folded up. Thanks for the video.

So using a very thin futon mattress sleeping on the floor compared to just the average cheap spring mattress doing the same no difference to me at all used the mattress on the floor for 8 years these past approx just over a month switched to the futon thin mattress ( maybe 3" thick) sure I can feel the floor when my 188cm 104-5 Kg ( 6'2" 235Lb) body gets on it but once I am laying down now difference at all waking up feel the same as before if I was to tell people to sleep on the floor just put your bed mattress on the floor it's pretty much the same thing ;) ,I still get my average of 6 hours broken sleep either way it is much easier to flip the mattress around through hehe

I had to stop sleeping on the floor/carpet because of my hips… I still have a firm mattress but if you have wide hips you can’t really have your spine straight on a hard surface

I’m two weeks in to floor sleeping. I’m 69. So far I love it!
@rupertbear91169 ай бұрын
instead of putting it directly on the floor, put the mat on a low platform bed frame; you get air circulation between you and the floor. PS you will need to replace the bed frame's wooden slats with hardwood plywood.
@lottebu91478 ай бұрын
But doesn't it stop the circulation under the matress/futon/.. once replaced with plywood?
@rupertbear91168 ай бұрын
hi lottebu, to be honest, i always tilt the whole mattress on it's side after waking. the plywood provides a firmer support, as well as allowing air to flow between the bed and the floor. but the only way to find out if it really does keep the mattress dryish, is by doing your own experiment at home. feel the underside of the mattress upon waking...

I got mine from my local Aldi. I suggest looking into pregnancy pillows, they are typically softer.

@BarRookie10 ай бұрын
@san9595810 ай бұрын
hi, is de futon matras ook van sasa store? Edit: ik lees net dat het 5 cm schuim is maar het ziet er lekker zacht uit wat voor schuim is dat en waar heb je die vandaan?
@BarRookie10 ай бұрын

Mat & futon =/= sleeping on the floor. You’re still technically sleeping on padding. It’s simply much lower profile than a mattress (with or without a box spring). I went cold turkey years back-threw out the mattress and slept directly on cold hardwood flooring. The cold felt great. Currently I sleep on an IKEA flat woven rug with a pillow because it matches my room decor better. Plus I didn’t want to throw out the rug I already had.

You are not sleeping on the floor. You are sleeping on a futon mattress which is sitting on a tatami mat. And all of that could easily be sitting on a slat bed or ensemble base. You are in effect sleeping without a piece of furniture called a bed. 😉
@BarRookie4 ай бұрын
Hahahaha, literally speaking, you're absolutely right. I did however started out by sleeping on a carpet, which is pretty much sleeping on the floor. And then I looked at a more longterm solution that gave me the same experience. Basically what I want out of floorsleeping is a hard surface and having to get up off the floor. And this tatami mat - futon combo gives me that. I hope this clarifies it a bit 😉
