Learn the skills and mindset you need to camp in extremely cold weather as Clay teaches Cyrus and shares pro-tips to help you stay safe and optimize your gear.
Clay fuels up the 2022 Toyota Tundra, “Orion,” to go winter camping when he heard that Montana was setting up for record-breaking cold and 'asked' Cyrus to join him for some good, quality, Father-Son time.
The guys also want to test out a few things on this overnight camp, especially, the Webasto heater system. Hopefully, the truck will still start in the morning to get them back to the hangar in time for work the next day. A little neosporin on a q tip rubbed around inside your nose will prevent those nose bleeds. Great video!

Dealt with nosebleeds on a frequent basis. Tried everything, had a nosebleed kit handy wherever I went. As time went on it was getting harder to stop them. Finally went in to an ear, nose and throat doctor. Had the nasal cauterization procedure done, haven’t had a nosebleed in 2 years since. Highly recommend it, hope this helps you out.

Clay: Sir, I have used "Mountain House" products in the past. As my son would say" just for Shit's & Giggles" what are your thoughts on U.S. Army ration packs?

They are a great option for emergency rations since they don’t require water. But talk about “shits and no giggles…”

Out in Flyover County back in Fahrenheit days at -20F we said “20 below”. At 5F we said “5 above” or “5”. At -20C we say “minus 20”. At 5C we say “plus 5” or “5”. 0 Fahrenheit is the freezing point of “sea water”. 0 Centigrade is the freezing point of fresh water. My friend has 8 rabbits.

Love this informative video! My theory (from trips to the Andes about -10c) in a tent in the ground. Wear less in your sleeping bag. I didn't have a down jacket - only fleeces and base layers. But I felt if I wore something next to my skin I would stop the thermo efficiency of the sleeping bag as my heat was being trapped by other less efficient things. Am I talking rubbish? Let me know! I was generally warm all night that way...but appreciate wasn't super super cold

That's what I was thinking too. It would be fun to see a video where they camped in the cold without the heater. Those survival/comfort tips would be useful for the rest of us without a fancy vehicle.

it's amazing you can do this, but saying these many of us enjoying other things, like we did watching our kids playing soccer and hockey.we do camping when we are not busy with sports. i would like to do more camping but watching them playing it's just never happened again they will grow up.I hope do more camping in few years.

Seem to remember sleeping in my underwear at -40* F in white Mtn huts, in NH with no heat, in my youthful 30’s. Nothing like hiking up a mountain called Wildcat and hearing big cats all the way up with batteries slowly going dead. The good old days🤣Yes, It was a mummy bag rated to -60* F.

Typically those 1lb propane cylinders freeze while discharging at those Temps. I found out the hard way while cold camping at -52°c. I usually bring the 20lb cylinder when winter camping.

What do you do for battery charging when this cold? My Redarc system goes into a fault error code when below 15 degrees Fahrenheit.

You can deplete that’s systems at that temp but often times charging at lower temps (especially lithiums) is damaging to the batteries. I’ll look into this for AGM systems as those temp thresholds are different.
