I've actually happened across the submarine tunnel in JC3. The tunnel network is extensive, with branching paths, and just a little bit of air at the top for most of the way, though some paths do not and I've no clue how deep it is. With the normal speedboat you can pretty easily force your way through the majority of the network and out of an exit further north of this way in, but since there's no easy way to get a good view underwater it's hard to say at a given moment if there's deeper tunnels or what geometry or details actually sit at the bottom of the accessible ones. Quite cool to see details of it in freecam here. I've got to say, forcing a boat through areas so low the top of it scrapes the ceiling, with no guarantee that you won't find a dead-end and be stuck down there, is one of the few times a game managed to induce something similar to claustrophobia. It has a distinct feeling of an area not made for you, no hand of a developer ever making sure you could get through it with a boat, since the submersible is now gone. An interesting feeling.

I always thought JC3 had really pretty underwater environments and was pretty bummed not to see it expanded upon. Something like the Atlantis base from The Spy Who Loved Me would have been awesome, although I do get that unless you entirely base your game around underwater exploration, it can be a bit of a resource sink.

The later engines were a pain to work on, forget a line of code? That's another 45 mins to build and play test the game where the old engine would just require you to restart the current build you have running Higher up management who literally have no idea how to make a game design up new ways to make it harder for the developers and then blame us when it's delayed

I will never understand the logic of higher ups acting like they know absolutely everything and can do anyone else's job better, just to then avoid being held accountable for the changes they demanded. I swear this stuff is part of every "why this game/development studio failed" video essay...
