Many years ago, when working in the middle east, I bought a "series1" Range Rover in Dubai. A big 2 door petrol V8 with massive door handles (before they fitted old Marina door handles to them) and realy hot vinyl seats. Lovely aircon but no heater. Me and two air stewardess friends drove it back to the UK through Saudi Arabia, a bit of Syria & Iraq, Turkey and then a ferry over to Brindissi in Italy where the Italian customs completely stripped the car down looking for contraband. The car looked like a page from a Haynes workshop manual when they'd finished. I put it back together and we headed back to Newcastle. All in, the journey took (I think) 5 and a half days. I remember in Dubai fuel was the equivalent of about 17p per gallon, or could be per litre. (It was in the 80's). I got a shock in the UK. Like an idiot, after a few weeks I drove to a new project, Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan. It was a great rugged and versatile and drank like a fish, just like the car! It was Saraha beige with a tan interior which wasn't a good colour spec at the time as it was basically the same colour as every military vehicle in every country I passed through. Great cars.

I love how many of the registration plates are worth as much as or more than the cars. Obviously, many of the owners aren't short of a bob or two. There's an awful lot of enduring love for these L322s across all walks of life.

I used to drive a first generation Range Rover around 1979-81, while I was in the Army, it looked the same as the brown one at 9:19 but in white, a very utilitarian vehicle back then.

Funnily enough that's a service thing. That one is ours and it's an ex undercover car for the police. Originally Bahama gold but painted brown outside.

Really takes me back as a young child and the a teenager seeing all the old cars..my dad loved his cars so I grew up through the years travelling around in e type jags Aston martins Porsches Ferraris Peugeot 205 1.9s lancia delta integralises and many more…my mother had mk1 and mk2 lotus cortina’s also then progressed to the original mk1 Range Rover 3 door 1972 and so on…I was indeed I lucky lad 💪

Learning to drive in a Range Rover sounds awesome. Every time I saw the ‘L’ plate I had to smile. I think Matt’s car represented itself well. Sure it’s got a taped-up indicator but it was £1200 and running rather sweetly. Plenty of 22 year old cars in far, far worse state…

A number of years ago my brother worked as a security guard at Aston Martin in Newport Pagnell, he let me have a wander and sit in a couple of Aston Martins, one I sat in seemed oddly stripped out and I got out the car looked in the front grill and there were 4 missiles - it was the Bond car from Die another Day before it had been released, sadly no camera phones back then.

I miss my L322, 2006 Buckingham Blue SC. Great car, had one air bag go on the suspension, which was about the same to replace as a spring, the suspension compressor and the drivers door cable. Other than that it was decent and no less reliable than anything else I’ve had.

Reversed my L322 into the side of my barn today, oh cock! Nice to see so many in one place and in one piece. My barn did come off worse, tow bar saved the old gal from any serious damage. Now need to find a rear light, opposite side to the one I had to replace after hitting the bins earlier in the year. That is my only gripe, the rear lights are vulnerable to damage.... explains why so many for sale are either damaged or missing their lens?

I was at Bovey Castle in Devon the other day. Their car park was full and many of the cars were Range Rovers. They were hosting a PGA golf tournament. What's the common factors? To be involved in either you have to like a good walk and have money to burn!
