The pantograph is what electricity comes from the live overhead wires.

35,000 volts
@Steven_Rowe2 жыл бұрын
Depending on where it is Normally the voltage is 25kv but I believe that when they did the TGV test run of 575kph they raised the line voltage to 35KV so as to reduce the current Regardless the power consumption would still have used high current
@TEMPLE7D2 жыл бұрын
@@Steven_Rowe Yep, the voltage was boosted from 25,000 to 35,000 volts just for the speed run. The line tension was also increased to accommodate the fast pantograph. The train had larger wheels than usual. The increase in power was to increase horsepower output from the train to achieve higher speeds than normal.

@@TEMPLE7D it was some run to watch on KZbin It's what you come to expect from France and why they rule the rails Even back in 1955 the French managed 300 KPH with a 1500DC loco. Even today the 1500 DC network is still quick We travelled from Tours to Paris on a loco hauled service and we got to 200 KPH

@@Steven_Rowe it's km/h, not "KPH"

@My-Opinion-Doesnt-Matter it was a typo, pure and simple. I understand now why your opinion doesn't matter. You must have got so excited by being able to simply point out my mistake..

Why is it zig-zaging?
@JeanLucCoulon3 жыл бұрын
The wire is zig-zagging to avoid the wire to cut the strips on the bow of the pantograph. The strips are made of carbon, and the contact is a sliding contact in both directions. In the direction of the wire due to the speed of travel, and in the perpendicular direction due to the zig-zag of the catenary.

@@mwgyt2k7 And *this* pantograph is very special ! It has a collecting head with a single contact strip (normally, there are two). The purpose was to gain weight to have the head the lighter as possible for a speed record. The lighter the head, the less the perturbation to the catenary, so it is easier to reach higher speed without the risk of bouncing.
