Thanks for the video Luetin! As someone that got in to Warhammer 40k just now after putting in 120 hours in Space Marine 2 your videos have really helped! I'm also glad to hear that there is no "right way" to start learning and that you should really just go down the path that interest you since that's exactly what I started doing. I started reading the short Chapter descriptions in the game which led me to read up on many of them fully. I thought Calgar was cool so I started to look up other Chapter Master and found Dante for example. I'm on a Primarch streak right now and just finished reading up on Angron. It's the small things that I just assume pass by you veterans since you know so much but for example when they name dropped the "Treaty of Mars" ingame I just had to pause the game to read what it was, and I love it! Anyways, I rambled enough. Thanks again for the videos and if people have some "cool" stuff to recommend I'll gladly take tips! I'm mostly on the Space Marine hype right now so anything regarding them is most interesting! PS: The Daemonculaba is fuuuuuuuuucked

Something for the starter, you can buy most of the tools from hardware stores. The snips are flush cutting pliers. You can buy a tradesman quality set for $15. The GW ones are 30 and are trash. Any rattle can paints are just acrylic paint. $20 for a GW can. Same colour at Michaels is $4. You don't have to break the bank on supplies, there is usually another option.

Honestly for me it took months of reading to get a full grasp of the 40k setting. And to this day I’m still learning new things about the lore. While that’s alright for someone like me. It’s not to everyone’s taste to have to do that much to understand a fictional setting. A video like this I imagine is much better for someone who can’t be bothered to read so much lore.

Part of the appeal of Warhammer 40k lore is the mystery itself, and as a newcomer, I agree. But I’d go further and say that the fact a lot of the lore is tied up in hard-to-find books or codexes adds to that mystery. It feels like a real-world treasure hunt, where piecing together the universe is an adventure in itself.

Welcome new 40K fans, it's good to have you. Despite what you may have heard, the fandom is very welcoming and helpful to newbies. Please observe the following rules: 1: Yes, you can play Tau. Yes, we will make fun of you for doing so, don't worry, it's all just friendly ribbing. 2. Magnus did nothing wrong. 3. Please don't ask for female Space Marines - they already exist and are called "Sisters of Battle". Yes, they are just as cool as Male Space Marines despite what tourists to the hobby say. 4. Don't let "Dave" put you off - no one likes him anyway. 5. Buy whatever models you think are cool. Paint them however you like, go nuts - they are your models! There are plenty of amazing painters that have free video tutorials on KZbin. Pop into your local Warhammer store for a free tutorial on painting - you may get a free model or two to introduce you. 6. Have fun! 7. For the Emperor!

I've read 3 hefty books and am considering moving on to The Infinite and the Divine very soon. I've got a half built Necrons force with the Void Dragon sitting on my bookcase. I've gotten better at the craft of hobbying, formed a little group of friends to play games with online and watch tournaments and become enamoured with this universe. There is so much material out there, basically just pick anything and then decide if you want to learn more about the Emperor / Imperial Guard or Space Marines or Titans or Chaos or the Eldar or Orcs or Necrons or... Luetin's videos are good but very in depth. There are other channels with shorter videos, including overviews of the different races or just a quick summary of the entire Horus Heresy. They might help you decide which path you want to read more about.

I agree with @donkeysunited. Start with either Gaunts Ghosts or Eisenhorn. It's good to see the world of 40k through the eyes of a regular human. Either Guardsmen (Gaunt) or Inquisitors (Eisenhorn)

One of the fantastic things about this is even if you have been invested in Warhammer for decades this takes you back to the roots, gives you a reminder of the baseline, allows you to go back to the basics of why you love this incredible universe so much.

All I ask of people is, don't be a tourist. Enjoy Warhammer 40k for what it is. Don't try to change it. If you don't like it then go away and leave it alone. Don't ruin it for the rest of us.

This is amazing for a beginner like me! Thankyou, the lore is so good!

Welcome to 40k, here's some tidbits. Don't buy directly from Games Workshop or Forgeworld if you want models. Buy secondhand or 3d print models. Warhammer games range mostly from alright to bad. The really good ones to my knowledge are Space Marine 1+2, Dawn of War 1+2 with all of their expansions (except Soulstorm but that one has mods to compensate), Mechanicus, Inquisition, Vermintide 1+2, Darktide, Gothic Armada II, Rogue Trader, and Shootas, Blood & Teef. There are a lot of books set in both Fantasy and 40k, not all of them are good. If you want to read, I suggest starting with Gaunt's Ghosts or Ciaphus Cain. The TTRPGs are great. Warhammer Fantasy 2nd Edition and every book connected to the Rogue Trader line are highly recommended and have a ton of lore attached Female Space Marines are fine to think about or draw or create models of, but they cannot exist officially due to the lore and thus never will be. Do not be a tourist and try to change that. While no faction is good, the Imperium is by far the best choice for the galaxy. Chaos consumes souls and degeneracy. The Dark Eldar perform ever more degenerate acts to stave off the chaos god they birthed that's feeding off their souls. The Craftworld Eldar are too pompous, arrogant, supremacist, and few in numbers to ever fix the galaxy, Orks just want to fight, Tyranids want to eat, Necrons are too divided and might do bit of a culling against the living when they wake up, and the Tau justify their actions with the facade of "The Greater Good" while also being a small empire. And the squats are just a fallen empire of dwarves.

I started with your videos and now have tree armies fully painted, the first ten Horus Heresy audio books plus fall of Cadia and The Infinite and Devine, you cannot go wrong with any part of this universe, your videos are awesome when I'm at work!

i would like to add 2 cents. I was new to the hobby 5ish years ago before the world screeched to a halt lol. And everything Luetin is giving you as tips, advice, & guidance is all 100% dead on and luckily how i went blazing down the rabbit hole lol. Started with the Ynnari and wouldn't want it any other way and then i spider webbed out my knowledge and prob 2k in my army i could easily drop another 2k on more to add and complete my army lol. This mans word is solid gold and always great & as a person and for the community is nice, solid, helpfl, & even bounce ideas off of.

Excellent timing to welcome a potential new influx of fans! Good job on covering lots, but being as concise as possible. You really have done wonders for this hobby and its community, so thank you Luetin. :)

Great video! (And I say that as an ancient old git who's been into 40K since the 1st edition). It's a great hobby to be in, whether you want to paint, play or just read up on the lore.

Dammit, i love me an intro video for Warhammer. I've been in this hobby for 22 years and it still holds my attention. Another great video from Luetin!

Space marine 3 game idea!: You start off as a child in a hive city and quickly go through the journey of becoming a space marine. +100 points if the child becomes a salamander. Can have it where he was abused as a child and hates people, but with the salamanders learns to like them.

I'm relatively new to 40k lore (bout 4 years-ish?) but i have read up on how it used to be and i'm mad glad i entered at a time where the storyline is *actually advancing*. From what i gather having to do a new beginner's guide after only 5 years is something of a new development and i'm here for it.

I have been reading the books for years and enjoy the immensely. Where I have no intention to play the table top game, I enjoy painting the figures, the Smurfs being my favourite. Great video as usual Luetin.

I’ve watched all of LTs videos, read a bunch of books and played a ton of the games. I’m still going to watch this video because knowing 40k I’ll probably learn something new. Also I could listen to Luetin read the manual to a fax machine, mans great at telling stories.
