That's true, but it isn't like their effort didn't amount to anything. Arrests and slowing down these cartels, regardless of whether it's short-lived or permanent, is always a good thing. The CJNG, one of the largest cartels, just lost 41 traffickers. Those traffickers are going to spend the rest of their lives in jail. That has to at least sting for them. Also, when I see people who criticize the border for not being "tough enough", there's this tendency to believe that you can just cross the US-Mexican border as if it's the US-Canada border. There are literally hoards of people from Latin America and other parts of the world that are bum-rushing the southern border 24/7 and I doubt that'll ever stop, unless conditions in their areas improve. Of course, some drug traffickers can sneak amongst the asylum/job seekers. But in reality, "tougher border" is easier said than done. It's going to take a lot more than just promises and even a wall to stop mass illegal migration. And when it comes to drug trafficking specifically, keep in mind that the most common way they're smuggled into the country is through ports of entry.

think about how many kingpins we’ve arrested over the years… what has it accomplished? The 41 are not kingpins. They are easily replaced given how poor the Mexican economy is. Quick google says they have over 20,000 members. I’m sure they have more than 41 die in a normal month, so I’m sure it’s nothing to them. But I do agree a border wall is not fool proof. But border policy on the whole is a good start.

If you put a wedge between two cogs, it doesn't matter how small they are, it's still going to cause issues for the machine overall. I don't expect the CJNG to immediately collapse because 41 traffickers were arrested, and I don't think anyone else should have that expectation. But imagine the amount of fent and other paraphenilia that got seized from this bust. Imagine the profits lost and the resources that need to be distributed to find or coerce people to replace these 41 traffickers, and to restrategize how they traffick across the border. Most importantly, think about the lives that have been saved, at least momentarily, from the seizure of those fentanyl-laced pills. I guess I should've been more specific earlier, but yeah, this bust has a ripple effect that does more than just arrest 41 guys, which they talked about already. It's a shake-up for them and could lead to more big busts with similar results if they don't make changes. Side note, I think it's a really good thing that they have losses month over month due to feuds with other cartels and the Mexican military. After all, they cant fight forever.
