I'm sure it makes a nice difference. I have a Rhino 660 with a Garrett T20 turbo on it and it runs fantastic. Nearly everyone continuously says that single cylinder engines don't respond well to boost, and carburetors (which my 660 is) don't tune out well with boost ever. Yet the normal "build" for a Yamaha 660 is to bore it out to a 686, and my stock displacement at only 4psi is quite a bit stronger. Not to say it won't ever be a bit more temperamental, but by now it's pretty well dialed

@hoodinitheamazingnothd44504 жыл бұрын
Hey @CarsandCameras add an "air chamber" on the cold side right after the turbo you will see the difference!! That chamber will act like a "pre boost" for the engine, its gonna be able to suck in more air (more volume) as soon as you hit that throttle more air is gonna be able to get to the engine then, by the same effect push more aire into the hot side making more boost
@frankensteincreations47404 жыл бұрын
Try to restrict the exhaust outlet off of the turbo. It might make a little more back pressure on the turbine and make more boost. Kinda like going to a smaller a/r turbine housing. Just thinking that little engine and being stock probably doesn’t move much air through it. So the exhaust gases probably aren’t all that much, in volume and velocity or speed... just a thought. Turbos rock!
@kevinsellsit55844 жыл бұрын
When I saw it take off into the grass, it was clear that it was making boost about 20 feet out and digging ruts. It is lean AF when you slam the throttle open. The computer may learn to compensate for this or you need more fuel pressure. I would recommend you both learn better throttle modulation. Using the throttle to help maintain intake velocity will improve performance with all the aftermarket parts you use. When you slam the throttle open (and you both slam the throttle open), you stop the airflow and manifold vacuum falls to 0. The fuel injection demands more pulse width to the injector but low pressure fuel systems are slow to respond. On carbureted engines that have an accelerator pump (most 1 cylinder engines do not) the accelerator pump supplies fuel to compensate for the lack of airflow through the venturi when the throttle is slammed open and manifold vacuum goes to 0. With or without the accelerator pump, learning to modulate the throttle will make you faster. When building your machines use a bell crank or other device to allow for a long pedal movement that will slowly apply the throttle. Ask any superbike rider about throttle modulation, it is what keeps the bike on the road, and wins races. Thanks for another awesome carsandcameras video.

@marklatorre91924 жыл бұрын
When watching the you tube episode watched you guys struggle to install a turbocharger on a carbureted engine, well try this, build an exhaust chamber that the carb will fit inside of on one end braze in a sheet metal plate that will bolt between the carb and the intake throat to the engine with a passageway that matches the carbs. on the other end slip on a cone adapter that will attach to the turbocharger boost line the tricky part is to rig up the linkages and choke to the carb through the chamber sides seal the shafts as much as you can for little turbo boost losses but still allow them to operate. You simply must pressurize the inside and the outside at the same time and use a regulator and electric fuel pump that will maintain 3-5 psi above the boost level at all times. your stock carb will do fine. this will work and you will not believe the results...Mark

You guys should make an air capacitor to go between the turbo and throttle body. The turbo only spools when the exhaust valve is open so it's not gonna be very efficient on a single cylinder engine. The boost capacitor stores that pressurized air for when the exhaust is closed so the engine is getting consistent boost pressure. Ideal size for the capacitor is about 4.4 times the engine size. Since the engine is 420cc, the capacitor would need to be about 1850cc to work properly.
@timothymilam7324 жыл бұрын
Add some small knobs on ends of foot pegs, and should give you a better sense of stability if your not pushing so hard on to keep feet on them. Plus you can shift your weight to inside of turns without adding additional force to outside peg, are at least that's how it appears from my prospective. Keep up the hard work young men, and thanks for the entertainment. Stay safe, and be well.

Try an easy setup with water injection like old Saab 99 turbo. Use a sealed can with water, put a hose from the intake to it so it get the turbo pressure. Than put a hose from the bottom of the can and put it in front of the turbo inlet with a nozzle in the end of the hose. When the boost will raise, the pressure gets in to the can and press water thru the nozzle. The water helps cooling the engine but it also raise the volume of the exhaust gases wich give you higher boost. You need to laborate some with the nozzle but i think you figure it out ;) Thanks for your great videos guys!

You're not making that much boost because you only have one cylinder powering the turbo so it's only making boost when the exhaust valve is open if you had two cylinders then it would make constant boost because you would always have an exhaust valve open hence the turbo would spool constantly instead of only half of the time
@Ekim874 жыл бұрын

Atmospheric pressure at sea level is 14.7 PSIG. A boost level of one atmosphere (14.7 psig ) in theory will double engine power. Boost of 5 psig , roughly 1/3 atmosphere should increase power output by 33.3%. 5 psig is a fairly conservative boost number .
