"Physically abusive" can be as simple as the woman traps the husband in a galley kitchen, is cursing him out and throwing things at him, he then pushes his way passed her to get away. This was the case of what my 66 year old sister-in-law did to her ex. I think it was a contrived plan between her and her attorney. She also said that he was "emotionally" and "financially" abusive . Oh, it took her 33 years to realize the situation was abusive. It was about the time that his 401k became ripe and plump.

Usually my story of wife of 23 years lying, cheating, stealing from joint funds, & running off with her boss is an eye-opening example of how hypergamy does sometimes happen way down the timeline. Most “leftover” men have their lives together. Especially the men who concentrated on their careers and personal advancement. Those are the men who have a house, paid off car, make $100k and are not worried about money. In a time like now, they are able to think about buying expensive things and can shop relaxingly. Lots of people who had relationships at a young age, divorced or paying high child support don’t have that luxury. They “have” to work overtime just to make ends meet. Most jobs love people who are financially strapped because they have no leverage. People who have leverage can live in peace. Men take care of your money so you can enjoy your life.

I have been looking for a casual relationship for the past few years. I'm divorced in the 1990's, got RP'ed a few years ago after being on dating sites in the 2010's. She was married for 14 years, afterwards single for 5 years, 44 years old now. That means she was 25 when she left the dating market and got married. But relations and balances in the dating market at mid 20 and at mid 40 are quite different. At mid 20 every reasonably looking girl is a goddess chased by doozens of men. At mid 40 supply and demand are more balanced. I guess that's the real background of her frustration. Men at mid 40 who are single again went through long termin relationships, marriages. And I haven't had a serious date in seven years. I get what you say about men running themselves down and not willing to put in the work....but at some point you have to ACCEDE TO REALITY. When I was younger I could get beautiful women but now that I have reflected on many of them, when I was in my 20's they were high quality (and I was in no way fit to get married) and in my 30s they were to some degree, but the red flags started showing up.
