Do you have a hard time falling asleep at night? If you've had a busy, stressful or hectic day it can be hard to unwind and decompress enough to go to sleep.
This Yin Yoga for Sleep class is meant to help you soothe the nervous system and prepare for a great night's rest! This is all about slow, simple movements to reduce stress and quiet down the mind. If you want, you can even do this class in bed! The class ends in savasana so you can just drift off to sleep...
Have a block and some pillows close by for this practice, maybe a few blankets too to ensure that you stay comfortable and warm. Enjoy :)
What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is often called the Yoga of the joints because unlike other styles of yoga, the emphasis is not on the muscles but on the deep connective tissue. Connective tissue is made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form your joints. Yin yoga improves the range of motion in your joints and also strengthens them. The results and benefits are more flexibility and greater range of motion and also more stability within your joints.
There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
1. Find your edge
2. Be still
3. Hold the pose
Use as many props as needed in Yin Yoga! Blocks, bolsters and straps are all great ways to support your body to make sure you are respecting your edge and not going too far.

Thank you a million times over, Kassandra. I am an Expat in Saudi Arabia, where we not only have a hard time finding good yoga teachers, but also where sleeping pills are illegal. As a lifelong insomniac due to a physical disorder, it has been beyond a challenge to stay here and get a good nights sleep. Until now. Now I have this routine memorized and can do it with a customized series of bells at the insight timer app. It has become my new bed time routine. Even if I go to bed late and think I don’t have time for it, I soon discover that I don’t have time not to do this perfect Sleepytime yoga routine. I cannot express enough thinks because this has changed the baseline of my life. Namaste.

This was so simple, but very effective, I only realized how much tension I had been holding on to when I was at the end of the class. I had experienced a lot of discomfort between my shoulder blades the days prior and felt like I could only take shallow breaths, but after this practice, a few things very gently released and even "popped" with some deep inhales and I had a very good sleep! Thank you!

I love yin yoga but I only get to do it in my home practice. I've been doing a lot of restorative practices lately and my body has been loving me for it! I still do a few cat cow, down dog, plank then a couple of sun salutations to warm up first. Thanks so much for this relaxing practice xxx

You're wonderful. I love you. This is not the first class I take from you. Your voice is soothing and I really get into a trance when practicing with you. All the peace and quiet and the slow music on the background really help me get in the mood and relax. Thank you so much! I almost fell asleep a few times on the course of this while in the poses - very relaxing indeed!

This was my first yin yoga ever!! It was more relaxing than I thought it'd be! Will definitely be checking out more! How many times do you suggest I do yin yoga each week?

tanya khan I like to do it twice a week but some people do it daily! it depends how active you are in other ways so that you don't over do it :) start with 3 times a week and see how you feel!
