Good video. It's too bad we couldn't have seen the results of each shot. That's what clear gel is for. (to see the wound cavity, bullet path, etc...). If you wanna trap and collect mushroomed bullets, there are ways to do that and it only cost a few cents. Thank you for sharing this with us.

WHO_TEE_WHO same thing here. It’s useless if you can’t tell which round is which. And each round needs to hit a fresh gel block, instead of one already ripped to shreds. I don’t mean to sound like a jerk, but shooting gel blocks needs to be done right if you really want to see what the individual rounds are doing. It’s a lot more work, but maybe separating the demos into separate calibers per video would make it more manageable. Love your videos, just trying to be helpful.

I think my preference would come down to what rifle I'd rather have... If I was going to go with an AR, the .458 would likely be the choice. If it's a bolt action, the .450 Bushmaster. Though you can get AR's in .450 Bushmaster too. I will say this though.. I can easily source .450 Bushmaster ammo locally at most all big box stores and small time shops here. .458 SOCOM however I can only find online or at one or two specialty shops in the area that mostly deal in high end tactical weaponry and the cost difference compared to .450 Bushmaster is something like $3-4 more a box. I do feel the .458 SOCOM offers a much wider variety of bullet types one can use and take advantage of compared to .450 Bushmaster for a reloader, but if you dont plan to do that then I dont see it as being a big deal. Both are fantastic rounds and I've been eyeing a Ruger Gunsite Scout in .450 Bushmaster... that walnut stock just looks great to me. Just wish Ruger would make the American Ranch in a wood stock for .450 Bushmaster or even better make it compatible with AR magazines.

I don't know, I can shoot anything the 45acp can and anything the 458 can in my 450B. I have a sizing die to size 458 bullets down. I can shoot anything from 90gr to 400gr bullets.

@@jesusisalive3227 450BM isnt meant to use .458 diameter bullets and I'm sure performance can be impacted as a result of which. That being said, I'm talking factory offerings vs what one can reload generally speaking here.

@Predalien195
@Predalien195 4 жыл бұрын
@@jesusisalive3227 I read what you put and I admit I did misread it. And while there are hundreds of loads for .450 BM, not many major companies actually load for it. About 4-5 brands. The rest are specialty places like Underwood, Buffalo Bore, and etc. Doesnt mean that you cant find the ammo online as you can find anything there but locally you're not likely to walk into your LGS and find a wide variety of .450 BM loads. Maybe a brand or two tops. Though where you live may also effect this like in Michigan or Ohio. However, you are even less likely to find .458 SOCOM. Which was my point ultimately about the two. They have plenty of merits, when you look at ballistics the .458 SOCOM is the superior round but from a legal perspective for say hunting... the .450 BM wins hands down. I still say it would come down to what platform I planned to use and the application.

I was more curious about the performance of the round versus the type of gun it was fired from. One could make the argument that it will perform differently when fired from a rifle versus a pistol, and that is true to a point, but I would actually like to see the destructive power of one round versus the other. S&W makes a 14" revolver that shoots the .460 round that I would say would be a pretty close analogue of a true rifle barrel. There have been many videos made about shooting a .357 or 9mm from a pistol/revolver platform versus a rifle based platform, and while there is typically a greater speed advantage with a longer barrel, penetration appears to be negligible....although, it would make for an interesting "How many paper plates" segment :-)

I know the socom is a necked round, but it looks like you're shooting both out of the same rifle, is that possible or am I mistaken and these are different guns?

@@WHOTEEWHO firstly, thank you for replying, damn decent of you. I really enjoy your videos. I've seen quite a few others. I really only meant, when you shoot different cartridges to just state really quickly, for example, .458, bullet grain weight, travels approx 2500 FPS, fmj or cast lead. That sort of thing, just helps me. We don't get much of that in England with our shit gun laws. Certainly no criticism, you do great work!! Keep it up. Cheers buddy.

Hi @WHO_TEE_WHO i was wandering if you can possibly make a video using the .450 bushmaster but using an ar15 magazine, ive been hearing and seeing some videos of other poeple using it but it'd be really nice if you could make a video of it from your ruger American ranch .450 bushmaster, i only ask because you actually got me hooked on getting one ive already ordered and couldn't be more excited. Thanks again for all your videos i love them there also very informative.

Damn - I'm so confused. I want a 200-300 yard deer, pig, or bear cartridge to fire strictly out of an AR platform rifle. Trying to decide between 450 BM, 458 SOCOM, 45 Raptor, and 458 HAM'R and there is someone claiming each is the best??? Reliability (Ive heard its much less in straight walled cartridges) counts as well as cost of ammo and rifle. Strauight walled cartridges seem to have a legal advantage for hunting in some states though (not mine).
