Good luck Matt, I ran 2:19:35 back in 2007 and was doing workouts very similar to the ones you are doing...I think you'll run between 2:16-2:17.

@kevinpye3140Ай бұрын
just my 2cents re your cramping/heat exhaustion, before it gets you or to avoid it, back off slightly and try a tempo 1k off and on to reduce the heat build up. maybe @25k . all the best for 2:17

This has been my first unattached season and this series has quite frankly been the only thing that’s stopped me from quitting. I run my last race later today and it funnily enough matches up with this video. Thank you. Best of luck in Chicago!

Of all the sub-elite KZbinrs I follow I find yourself the most relatable. Can’t wait to watch the races over the next few months! Ps living in Madrid I feel your pain in the heat!
@lowzyyyАй бұрын
We keep saying sub elite but not long ago this was olympic standard. His training and lifestyle is on elite level for sure
@fidruАй бұрын
@@lowzyyyexactly 👍 there is the talent/genetics that makes the actual output "elite" (which unfortunately applies only to a small amount of people). and there is the professional approach to training and overall understanding of exercising, recovery, nutrition, adaption etc. from the last years that I follow Matts journey thats pretty much the definition of an "elite" approach to the necessary input (to make whatever output possible). hope that makes sense

I love that clip mid-video of you running behind Yuki Kawauchi. Having recently run my first marathon, I've watched a lot of really great running content throughout 2024 but I keep coming back to Sweat Elite again and again. There's a sincerity, a professionalism, a deep dedication to the art of running, a striving to continuously improve through experimentation...it's just an awesome approach and I've learned so much even as a beginner marathoner. To see someone already so good pushing to get even better is inspiring. You're going to crush Chicago Matt. I'm feeling 2:18:25 if you go full ham, easy 2:19:30 if you decide to run closer to just sub 2:20. YOU'VE GOT THIS MATT
@hazimmohamad6683Ай бұрын
all the best Matt! you got this. your 2x10k workout video gave me a lot of confidence with my marathon and i got my PB. love Kaizen too. i predict youll get 2:18:34

GO MATT GO! This is DEF the best block you’ve shared with us. Thanks for helping all of us non-coached runners out there via transparency. You’ve made it through a Midwest summer without another heatstroke, I truly think this, along with the attention to nutrition is going to give you a cramp-less, sub 2:20 marathon. Can’t wait to see by how much!
@MidLifeRunnerАй бұрын
I tried the ketone shot halfway through that 4x3mil a few weeks back 🔥 a game day decision for sure. Analytics aside, your relaxed vibe is giving sub 2:20. 🙌🏼

Best wishes to you and Reem this weekend! Will follow both of you. Would be great to get a training and race recap from Reem post marathon. Lot of takeaways for everyone from this build. Biggest one for me: Focus on shorter distances (speed focus) in summer leading up to longer distances(aerobic focus) in winter/spring.

Hey Matt, wish you a great race, you deserve going sub. 2:20 as that belongs to you. Just ease into your race pace, do not go crazy from the get go and you will get there just fine. All the best, cheers

I wonder could the cramps be caused or aggravated by caffeine toxicity. Maybe useful to limit ingestion more than you normally do on race day and trust your natural endurance.

Hey! I am a big fan of the OG Alphafly too! But recently i had an incident where by brand new pair midsole split from the upper mid run... and it have seen it happen to many other people mid race.. i think you should wear the newest version of Alphafly..

Good muck Matt, been great following along! Also running ChicaGo this sunday, flown in from Denmark yesterday. I know you like the races really cold (much colder than most), but it will be 12 c/54F can't get much better than that tbh, wind also looking okay (.an im jinxing now). Most of the big marathons are around this temp so might as well learn to embrace!

Lots of sodium and potassium electrolytes DURING the race will help with the cramping, especially because you have a high sweat rate.
@whatchuffineverАй бұрын
zero scientific basis linking cramps and electrolytes
@jazzyjay4595Ай бұрын
So there’s no plan to try to intake a higher amount of sodium 😅 those CharGels have barely any sodium for how many calories they have. Gatorade’s not gonna cut it on the course. I just really don’t understand why we’re not trying it. You know you’re a heavy sweater. You know you don’t do well in warmer marathons. You’ve cramped up in almost every marathon you’ve ran and it’s not from being physically unfit or not strong enough. The solution to cramping is so glaringly obvious as someone who’s lived and trained in Florida almost my entire life. With your current nutrition plan, you’ll get maybe 200-300mg of sodium per hour. That should be close to 1000mg per hour. There’s no downside to it. You will just pee out any excess when you’re done with the race.
