I had a neighbor one time around 1 am screaming. At the time l didn’t know it was her. I called the police to report because l didn’t see anyone but l could hear the screams. Eventually, the Police came. I stepped outside and by that time l could see it was her. She was having some sort of reaction to some medicine. She did get some help. The next day her Dad was so appreciative because it could had gone wrong for her if l hadn’t called for help. We are all here to help one another.

For someone to hear another person screaming for help, in distress, and do NOTHING is obscene and a cowards way. Lives can be saved if people only react. We were camping once and heard a couple arguing. Next we heard her screaming for help. We called 911 and the police were there within 3 minutes. He was stabbing and choking her. She lived and I hope, got away from that psychopath that called himself her husband.

Gretchen was my teacher in NJ before she moved to FL. Middle school. I was devastated to see her photo and story on KZbin last yr. I remember when I was in middle school, she had just gotten her first teaching job. She also was a student teacher for me as well before hand. She was a beautiful, fun but respected teacher among her students. I wish this man, I won't even say his name, never gets out. It says he will be in his 80s, but her daughter will never see her mom. Prayers to her family. I can't say enough about Mrs. Crane (her Maiden name, bc it is NOT Anthony).

They did end up getting divorced so she possibly had already done the whole process once to change her name back to her Maiden name, Crane. @@NFS305Most don't. My mother in law has been divorced for 15 years and still goes by her married name, and he even remarried. She has three children, 2 boys and a girl. The two boys obviously have the same last name and so do three of her grand children. My mother remarried 7 years after my father passed, and she didn't change her last name to her new married name for a few years because of my sister and I. My aunt also still goes by her last husband's name, and she didn't even have children by him.

This is my friend. She was the lifeguard at our high rise apartment in the early '90's, and she babysit our daughter (who is now 26 years old) when she was attending classes. What a beautiful girl she was and the world is less of a place with Gretchen gone 😥

It depends on where you live. You could be labeled a snitch if you live in a bad neighborhood. You call the police and the police will come to YOUR door in sight of the criminals for details. The court papers then name you as a witness with your private information revealed. The police will offer you no protection and the criminals know this. A lot of criminals believe that dead people tell no tales. We need better policing period!

A few days ago, I heard a child screamed. This was not the first time, so I didn't hesitate to call the police. The boy is about 10 years old. His family members abuse him. Since the police got involved, I have not heard anything. That neighbour failed the victim in this case. Sometimes, when we hear screams, they are cries for help.

Something similar just happened in my town. A girl went missing for 10days. A neighbor had said she heard screaming from the apartment near here. She said she didn't want to bother to call because it's usually nothing. That girl was found on the side of the road inside a coffee table that had a hinged lid. Her coffee table that was missing from her apartment. I can't fathom why that neighbor didn't call. If called and it ended up being someone setting up surround sound and didn't feel guilty for calling.

Maybe you're new to True Crime, but that's sadly very common. In many cases, people don't call police when they hear or even see things. In many cases, if a woman escapes, or survives, & reaches the road to look for help, most cars will keep driving, though one person may call 911 as they continue driving. And its so common, that we tell women that if they are attacked, they shouldn't scream rape, they should scream fire, because that is a danger for everyone & makes people more likely to take action.

I’m aware that people don’t act in moments like this, many don’t take the opportunity to call 911 in suspicious situations but this case in particular is special in my opinion. I helped my wife get out of an abusive relationship with her first husband. She stayed until her kids were grown but the hell she lived with was atrocious. She feared for her life daily. This husband committed a horrific crime. A female that lives nearby, hears Gretchen screaming and yelling “stop, your hurting me” and choses to ignores this. I had hit him in the back of the head with my wallet because he said something rude to me. Luckily, a neighbor called and police came fast. He was still hitting me. To this day, I don't know who called but I am so grateful! He was arrested and put in jail.

I left an abusive marriage after 14 years and my ex stalked me and I finally had to move to a big city in another State and rebuild my life when I was 40 years old. I'm fascinated with the interviews in these 48 hours mystery series. The people being interviewed already know the outcome of the case in most cases...they already know someone is dead, the perpetrator is imprisoned etc...yet the tenses they use and the sentence formations seem to indicate something ongoing like the outcome is yet to be determined. It keeps the mystery alive for the viewers. Very elaborate work writing these scripts or directing them to respond in a particular manner and even getting some of the victim's family members to be conscious of what they are saying and then editing these later. A lot of work indeed! Well done!

After first looking into the research regarding the psychology of the Bystander Effect- *the inhibiting influence of the presence of others on a person's willingness to help someone in need* -I took a personal vow to ALWAYS be the one to act should I ever come into a situation where one thinks to themselves "should someone do something?" I'm fairly young, but already I've had occasion to take that vow to task several times. I've called to report swerving, dangerous driving. A car upside down in some woods below the highway, a large tree branch hanging on a powerline, a sketchy looking dude running through backyards, a freshly fallen tree on the roadway, a dog off the side of the road alone and looking frightened. And finally, disturbing screams from a camp site. There's more than that, but what I can say is that 9/10 these situations are by and large relatively low stakes. But once you prime yourself to be the one that acts, should you ever find yourself in a high stakes situation you won't be shy to act.

I'm known as the nosy neighbor who checks out the window several times a day. I called the fire dept. when my neighbor across the street, and over one, had smoke billowing out the back door. There was about a foot of snow on the ground, I got my boots on quickly and trudged thru the snow to go get her out of the house, but as I was crossing the street, the Fire truck pulled up and we all ran in together, only to find she was drying a load of clothes, and with the subzero temps outside, the 'steam' came out of the pipe near the back door! So ... I dragged the fire dept. out for nothing, but better safe than sorry! (I've been in two fires before)

It's not always a good outcome unfortunately. Sometimes they get adopted but even cases where the kids live or one kid I saw as an adult still wasn't sure what happened to his puppy once he was taken after his dad killed his mother. It's a famous crime and his channel is about surviving... Telling detectives his father killed her and his father is in jail still ga lighting him and he reads the letters in videos. He finally met someone who told him he got his dog all those years ago and he started bawling. It's another great video..

Well, without a long list of documented priors, it is difficult for law enforcement or a court to guess at someone's intent and sentenced based on that. On the other end, many corrupt officials would certainly abuse that if it did exist. Besides, many government agencies are filled with pedos (see: DOJ, Department of Education, HHS, IRS...), so some of them have no interest in stopping creeps from creeping.

As for a reason why David murdered Gretchen, it is pretty obvious. She recognized he was crazy, put him out and filed for divorce. Simply, "REJECTION!" Dude had gotten by on his height and good looks for so long that no woman left him, but rather he did the leaving. If he could not have her nobody could. I have seen his type before. He is a psychopath and stalker. It would not surprise me, he watched Gretchen for a while, stalking her every move, then wooing and eventually marrying her. We were saying goodbye to our company on our front porch when we heard a scream coming from a deserted area where an old brewery existed. We immediately called the police and advised them of where it came from. They found a female that had been taken at knife point off a bridge and down to the old brewery. They did not catch the guy but the female was safe. Unfortunately when our local news paper reported the incident they included our address as the persons reporting the scream. My mother was furious as she had two teenage daughters living at home.

As someone who lost their mother at a young age it’s such a horrible tragedy! She is going to hurt for the rest of her life. No mother to pick out a prom dress, help dress her for her wedding, see her grandchildren grow up! He also robbed the daughter of a life with her mother !! 😢

That is why I wish all women with children would think 10 times more before bringing another “dad” in the house! Specially with the big girls, actually with any children of yours. Your children being under strange person’s supervision? No, that is absolutely terrifying! “Bonus dad”, bonus sh…t nah.

No offense, but that’s a lot of assumptions you make about the future of the daughter and even the relationship of the mom and daughter. I know my mom didn’t help me pick out my prom dress - I had to pay for it myself. My niece didn’t even get a homecoming or prom because of “covid.” I also never got married, nor had kids. My mom and I have fought like cats and dogs forever, as did my brother and mother. Neither of us have had contact with her for years because of the stress and drama that comes when she was in our lives. Just remember that when people get murdered, friends and family will say nothing but positive things about the victim. It’s very improper to any speak ill of them. We really don’t know what the future will be for the daughter, nor what her relationship with the mother was like or would have been like when the daughter got older.

My mom died when I was 13, I'm mourning her still at 56 y/o; it never goes away. Since no one took care of us after she died, our (my sister & I) our lives were ruined. No supervision, no guidance, tolerance not love. We weren't protected and were easy pickings for sexual predators. When my husband beat me up I called my father and asked him to help me. His reply was, "sounds like a personal problem". My mother would have had a very different response. So many times I missed my mother

I don't believe too many post mortems were preformed during the pandemic, especially after the vaccine roll out. They didn't want to know the harms that experimental drug caused and those effected are still fighting to get help.

Well actually the neighbor has every right to mind her own business and not get involved, which is what she did. It’s not her duty to call anyone regardless of what you think it’s just not simple as that. Some people will call some people won’t.

I know that part surprised me. And judging by the amount of comments against the neighbor, most people are very upset. Rightfully so. Unfortunately, the neighbor did not call. She must've had tremendous guilt afterwards, by her later actions of approaching the police and the media, and relating what she heard. In a way, I feel bad for the neighbor. For she has to live with what she didn't do.
