Update: The BLS store is giving me a full refund for the issues I experienced with their LTO cells. They said that they made a mistake and the cells were not labeled correctly. They wanted me to remove the video, and I refused. I told them that this will be a lesson to ensure that it never happens again. I still do not understand why these problems happen so often with battery distributors. This has happened on numerous occasions w/ multiple suppliers. Hopefully my video will teach the other companies a lesson. Previously, I did like the BLS store, and I have bought some really nice cells from them in the past. I am glad that I was ripped off before my viewers were. Who knows how many people they sent these cells to. Any frauds / misrepresentations intentional or not must be put into the open for everyone to know it is happening. Out of curiosity. Do the date codes match ? Production codes printed on the cells ? Is it possible that they are New Old Stock that have been laying around in a warehouse for a period of time ? Should not be a factor unless something happened in storage, freezing or ?

Hello Will, there is an easy way to tighten the buss bars properly with no danger of damage to cell. first put a nut on the threads flush with the base of the cell, you do not need to put any torque on the nut. Then put a buss bar on, then add a second nut, when you want to tighten the buss bars, you use two wrenches and the inside nut is screwed to the outside (as if you wanted to take it off), and you tighten the outside nut, there will be no tension going into the cell, you are only locking the two nuts into the buss bar. In some cases, you may need thinner nuts.

Also, calendar aging seems highly unlikely for these cells as most researchers on calendar aging agree that the cause of calendar aging is the graphite anode which isn't present in a lto battery

@@WillProwse Hey Will, I know you haven't done anything with LTO batteries for a long time now, but if you want real 45Ah grade A cells, you can get them from an American company called XS Power. They make a lot of extreme car audio batteries, and they used to have lots of Lead Acid batteries, but they have recently started offering rebranded Yinlong LTO cells and they also bought the intellectual property from the largest and best super capacitor company there was. I believe it was Maxwell or something close to that. They made 3000 farad super capacitors, which were very useful for extreme car audio since capacitors can charge and discharge almost instantly, and they can charge and discharge in low temperatures. LTO cells have lots of benefits for car audio too since you don't have to worry about the temperature as much as with Lifepo4. Plus, LTO's charge and discharge very quickly at high C rates. Thats perfect for car audio. Hence why they are being rebranded and sold by XS Power along with the 3,000 farad capacitors. Its a great combination to use the XS Power/ Yinlong LTO cells in combination with 2,000 to 3,000 farads of capacitors. So, if you want to try the 45 amp hour XS Power cells or their capacitors, I can say they are regarded as a top battery brand in the car audio space. Limitless Lithium is another big company that has really expensive high C rate Lithium batteries for extreme car audio. It would be extremely interesting if you did a high C Rate output challenge between the Yinlong cells, proper Grade A 45Ah XS Power LTO cells, Headway 38120HP Cells to represent high output Lifepo4 cells, and maybe 2 AGM Lead Acid batteries in parallel. Pit them all against each other in a showdown and a teardown. See who has the best high output cells in the consumer space. That would be incredibly interesting to me and about 100,000 other people who use Lithium batteries in high power car C audio builds

Hi William, I love to watch your videos. I have dabbled in Hybrid Power Systems for over 10 years. During this video you down play the value of LTO high C rate. And for solar power, I agree. However, on a personal note, I have a Bad Boy Buggy, which is basically a souped up 4x4 Golf Cart. It has 8 each 6V 200A-H Pb Acid batteries in series and pulls 500 Amps. If I could get 100A-H of Li batteries that could handle 500 Amps at a reasonable price, I would switch over. In this case LiFePO4 cannot handle the C rate that I need. LTO is the only way to go. The limiting factor seems to be the BMS. The one you showed is good for 100 Amps. So, just a side note here, LiFePO4 cannot handle all applications. Keep up the good work.

hi, i work with battery suppliers from china for about 5 years and if talking about LTO cells - there is lots of interesting stuff hapening with such cells in china and it's very tricky to get exactly what you need, first 45ah Yinlongs cells i got about a year ago and on 2C test (my single cell tester only can handle up to 80A current) i got around 46.1-46.4ah and they aint cost that much in china mainland, the price is around 30-35$+shipping, quality depends only from suppliers good faith, because if we`r talking about Yinlong products - there`is no A grade available on the market and never been, only B and C grades. The only A grade cells i could get is that one i bought from Yinlong directly, but that is comlicated even for wholesale byers ;)

How have to have thicker wires on your capacity tester. The voltage drop will be to high on the wires you now and you will have some heat related power losses that will affect the measurments. If you have 0.1-0.2 Voltage dropp in the wires with 5 apms discharge then you will loss 0.5-1watts, in 8 hours that will take to discharge the battery you will loss 4-8Wh or 2-4 Ah. I think that it will be a good think to check your testing setup.

Interested in building an LTO pack for long distance ebike touring because of the high charge rate. The ability to travel 45 miles, potentially get a full charge off of any standard household outlet in 20-30 minutes while having lunch, and proceed is very practical for that use. Will need to pull it in a trailer though because of size and weight . Thanks for the video .

LTO has a linear voltage VS discharge graph. From 2.8V to about 2V. At 38Ah the equivalent Wh is about 2.4 x 38 = 91.2. For a constant 2V battery this is about 45.6Ah. Wondering if they are using advertising liberty to claim Wh to Ah. Would not be the first time someone is doing fuzzy math advertising. Nah. They just ripped you off. Glad you keep them honest. Love the work you do !

I have been doing tests on these batteries for 2 years. The problem that these batteries after charging up to 2.8V are quickly discharged automatically. In addition, each cells does not charge correctly. So at the moment of electronic calibration you will lose the total battery voltage. So, after a whole day of calibration, you need to recharge them again. I have batteries of the same company as you. I approach these batteries sold by individual Chinese shops are waste (bad somehow) from a large company - Yinlong. To buy good batteries, you need to apply directly to the manufacturer

It can be useful for solar power as PEAKER storsge when the sun only shines (peak) for 1-2hrd hours a day. at maxium (10 c) you can store 5KWhr of energy in 10mins.provided you have a lot of solar panels. At that rate you could charge your entire battery bank in no time and use it for the whole day.

That's wierd Will, I have the 40ah LTO grade B cells on my electric motorcycle pack and I've capacity checked them but still got the 40ah capacity. I've since swopped to 32650 6ah 3C lifepo4 cells. 332 of them lol. I'm falling in love with lifepo4. I mean if I can get up to 6000 cycles then that's perfect, even after that I'll still have 80% capacity. Also the reason there is so many grade B cells is because the Chinese use the LTO on applications and probably are required to swop them out after a certain time period, this is especially true for medical and public transport applications. Instead of throwing them out they sell it to us. That's my theory. Thanks for the vids!

You can very easily install them in series, and get a 24, 48, or 96V system. The current doesn't change on series connected batteries. For solar cells, if you use many, you can very easily upvolt the 12V output to 96V, which is much better for long power leads, before charging the pack. Maybe 100 amps isn't what you would use at 12V, but it's perfectly fine if your system is a larger system (like a solar farm) at 96V, or even 192V.

Why? Electric busses / public transport. The use case fits and China uses them a lot in the cities. Too bad you got grade B again. Bought mine in Europe as 40Ah and they test as such. Not sure where you got the info from that 24v isn't a good fit. I use them with a Victron EasySolar 24/3000/70-50 and that works perfectly fine. Just yesterday I ran them down to 3%, drove to a hookup and charged them within 2 hours with the EasySolar (basically there's a MultiPlus inside next to an MPPT and more). My high voltage is 28.6 (2.6v per cell) and low is 19.8 (1.8v per cell). The Victron EasySolar / MPPT / MultiPlus inverter work fine. Every 24v load I've put on it works fine too. Never had any device complain about voltages being either too high or too low. 33 cells in 11s3p 40Ah each, total 120Ah in 24v. I get ~3000Wh at +97% efficiency from them, measured over and over again. 1560Wp solar on the roof. Been running this system for almost a year and use them every day (as I live in my van). It has been freezing here last week. I was not worried and nothing happened. Other van dwellers around me had all kinds of issues with BMSs of LFP systems shutting off, AGM not performing to satisfaction, etc. Me, no problems at all except for no sunshine but that's normal here in winter time.

Looks like a great application would be a van with a big alternator that is set up to use for downhill skiing, which is what I am working on at the moment. Cold temps, very high charge rates so you don't have to run the van for hours when charging. Frequent start and stop cycles when touring around etc. And thoughts on why there are so many B cells out there? Honda, Mitsubishi, bus manufacturers etc use piles of these cells. If any cells don't meet their stringent specs they hit the B market I expect.

What about using a 6s battery for a starting battery in a car? With the alternator voltage well below the max voltage of the cell, using a 6s without a bms seems like a decent alternative. At least as a project. Am I missing something that would not make them ideal for that? I can forsee having to check the balance occasionally, but the voltage range they would "live" in would not put them in danger.

I just bought a "40Ah" 5s pack to try in a car (the idea being to avoid a battery heater for winter, and reduce weight compared to a Pb battery). The voltage is a little low, but the reduced voltage sag under cranking should make it at least no worse than lead acid. With OEM sized lead acid, I find you get ~12.4V at best with a full battery, ignition + lights switched on, and less if the battery isn't brand new. As long as the open circuit voltage is over 11V, I think 40Ah LTO should be able to crank most engines out there. Though the highest you're supposed to charge an LTO cell is 2.85V (14.25V in a 5S), research literature seems to suggest permanent damage only occurs above 3V, and most cars won't produce more than 14.7V under any circumstance (the exception being some newer German cars), so 5S should be safe, IMO.

If you think that the rating on them is bad, you should see them on some USA made capacitors. 6,300µF at 400VDC -10% to +50%. So in reality they are 5670 to 9450µF capacitors. You just don't know what until you test them. Newer ones are -20% to +20% which is still a 40% swing possibility.

Those are what you would call "re-wraps" I've bought a huge amount of these cells over the years for my own projects. The chinese market for these is a little messed up. I've found the most success with making sure I've got a Yinlong authorized re-distributer. Most of them are not. So most you find are re wraps and "re-stud" cells, which is where they weld on new end studs. I've actually had better cells with re studs but they have a tiny bit more internal resistance.

My experience with Chinese sellers on eBay and others, mostly in the audio and power supply area is overall, power output is almost always way less than advertised. Safety is none existent. They are quite happy to sell you stuff that will blow up or even kill you. Very little is inspected or tested. Can take months to get the goods, about 40% of items NEVER arrive or are damaged due to poor packing. We know it's going to be crap but we still keep buying! On my channel I always expose such retailers and products, very pleased you do also, it's the only way they will learn. If a retailer gets a bad rating, they just change the name of the shop and continue to trade in the same way.
