It’s unreal how many parts are in that transmission. I’m exhausted just from watching your video. Amazing video!

Absolutely fascinating video! Excellent presentation! I've got 2002 Lincoln Continental with one of these transmissions in it, and I know it's only a matter of time before it craps out on me!

What is the most common failure on the 4F50 and AX4N Transmission,s?I know about the splines stripping out in the convertor,what about in the Transmission and valve body!Good video,Thanks!
@CurmudgeonTransmission2 жыл бұрын
These are really a pretty good unit. The T/C is by far the most common problem. After that, pump shaft and bearing, boost valve, direct inner molded piston, bushing in the O/D Drum tends to wear bad, and the forward clutch control valve tends to get stuck in the retainer.

@curmudgeontransmission - Some of the pan bolts on my 4F50N seem to thread in fine at first but will not tighten to 108 inch pounds. They just kep spinning. Is this because of gunk in the bolt holes that I can blow out or do they need to be rethreaded? 15 of the 19 bolts tighten just fine and seem to seal up the pan just fine for now.
@CurmudgeonTransmission6 ай бұрын
They will need to have heli coils installed, sometimes you can get just a slightly longer bolt andif there is enough threads left that will work.

@curmudgeontransmission - Which of the 3 shift solenoids if for 1st to 2nd gear? The one on top? And 2nd to 3rd is the middle one?
@CurmudgeonTransmission5 ай бұрын
Shift solenoid 1 is at the top and goes SS2 then SS3 on the bottom. SS2 is on for first. They are all off for 2nd. 1 & 3 are on for 3rd, and all are on for 4th.
@DGC-k6m5 ай бұрын
@@CurmudgeonTransmission - Great information. So with SS2 on for first and off for 2nd, that means SS2 gets a lot of "use" in stop-and-go traffic compared to the other two solenoids. Is SS2 therefore more likely to burn out first over time? And may that explain why after my transmission warms up and drives in stop-and-go for about 30 min, it sometimes has trouble getting from 1st to 2nd gear? Thanks for any insight. Great channel, and happy 4th!
