Sick! You'll have to upgrade your rockers from the older cast to lighter pressed metal rockers in the Evo 4-9 4G63. They are backwards compatible with the older engines. Full details on our website: denstoj.com.au/products/4g63-pivot-retainer-clips Let me know if you have other questions.

You know if the valvetrain geometry is actually setup correctly you don't have any issue with rockers popping off. Mainly with valve stem heights being set correctly for lash adjuster preload and the correct valve spring being used for the rpm, boost and the camshafts.
@denstoj2 ай бұрын
You’re absolutely right-correct valvetrain geometry is crucial to prevent rockers from popping off. However, under real-world driving or racing conditions, even with ideal geometry, higher performance setups with increased RPM, boost, or aggressive camshafts can still benefit from additional security measures, as there is minimal downside. This is why most modern engines with a rocker arrangement, like the BMW B58 in the Supra, the Lexus 2UR-GSE in the LC500, and nearly all Audis, run a clip. Curious to hear your thoughts further. Neat Evo III!

The price is a little high just for clips, don't you think?
@denstoj Жыл бұрын
Hey @a.b3367, thanks for your feedback. We understand that at first glance, the clips might seem expensive. When compared to the potential costs of a rocker dropping and destroying your engine, they're well worth the investment for peace of mind when revving. We've designed our clips specifically for the 4G63 from high carbon steel and they're also heat treated to withstand the temps within the valvetrain. Let us know if you have any other questions. I'm curious if you have an Evo?

@@lyordson2K Ok, cool. Depends on how you drive it, where eg. Street, circuit, drag and how much reliability you're looking for. On the 4G63 I wouldn't say it is high risk but fundamentally it is a floating rocker so any instance of valve float and the rocker can fall out. It's a relatively cheap mod and easy enough to do for peace of mind but I could be biased ;) For more information we've done a write up on the G16E-GTS in the GR Yaris which is a similar valve train setup with hydraulic lash adjusters: www.reddit.com/r/GRCorolla/comments/11kwfrq/if_youre_looking_for_peace_of_mind_when_revving/

Will that make the lifter or rocker arm have a light tick always because of the clips??
@denstoj6 ай бұрын
Good question. When correctly installed, our rocker retainer clips do not cause any additional wear or noise in the rockers or valvetrain. The clips are designed to be non-intrusive under normal operating conditions, engaging only when the rocker loses pressure from the valve spring. This is achieved by the existing groove in the hydraulic lash adjuster where the clip attaches. It is narrower in the middle where the clip and rocker normally operate and wider at the top, so the rocker is "caught" by the clip if it tries to fly off. This solution is similar to the system used in the B58 BMW engine found in the GR Supra, which does not exhibit any ticking noise despite being a high-performance and expensive engine (see video clip below). Our clips do not affect the regular functioning of the valvetrain and will have a lifespan equivalent to the other valvetrain components. If enough of rocker arms come off, can this cause the engine to have trouble starting?
@denstoj2 жыл бұрын
Hey Christian, it’s all dependent on how and which rockers fall off. You could get lucky with only one rocker falling off and safely lodging itself in the tappet cover without doing any damage to the rest of the valvetrain and you’ll only experience a miss fire and loss of power. Worst case a rocker falls off and gets shot out of the tappet cover causing major damage. How is your Evo? Any odd noises from the engine or loss of power?

I means gsc lifter ok?
@denstoj2 жыл бұрын
Hey Luciano, yes our rocker retainer clips will work with the GSC Zero-Tick lifters as long as there is no change to the diameter where the clip attaches. Our understanding is that the GSC lifters only have a stiffer spring inside to help keep the lifter at its operating height for situations when oil pressure is low. There is no change to the outside dimensions compared to the OEM lifter. Of course, the only way to be certain is to compare the radius on the OEM lifter and the GSC when installing. This is what we recommend.

@Horace Cunningham lucky the rocker landed in a safe spot in the head. It must not have done any damage to the valve, spring or anything when falling off. Might have just been a little underpowered. Have you had a chance to replace it yet?

@@denstoj my concerns are that the clips seem to clip on very easily and i wonder if they can slip off easily at high rpms? if the rockers can pop out of place at high rpms what's stopping that happening to the clips? i have an evo 6 and am looking to upgrade the valve train specifically to rev higher (Safely) so am intrigued by your product
@denstoj7 ай бұрын
I totally get your concerns. Sure, while these clips might not counter severe valve float, they serve as an added layer of security. They've been successfully used in high-stress environments, including world-time attack winning Evos and drag cars that push over 1,000+ hp at up to 10,000 rpm. They pair nicely with upgraded springs when pushing higher RPMs and of course, we wouldn't build a 4G63 without them. Let me know if you have any other questions.
