Khristian Ingraham Whoever designed the HDR10 spec should really have made different levels of the spec that are clearly defined. Perhaps based on the number of stops of dynamic range the screen can display. I know that OLED panels get away with lower peak brightness because they can go farther on the low end.

Hey Jay, I am currently using a 4K UHDTV as my monitor for daily computing as well as gaming. I just looked up the LG monitor discussed in this video and on Amazon it is priced at $699.99 for a 27" monitor. My 4K TV is a TCL 55P607 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2017 Model) and costs $649. As well as it being 4k it also is HDR and supports HDR 10 but it also supports Dolby Vision. It has 3 HDMI ports as well as a USB 2 port, each HDMI port can be individually configured and it too has a game mode that can be chosen and with this set it only has 15 mili seconds of input lag. I use it for gaming from my sofa and it preforms great, it does not have free sync but I have not noticed any problems with screen tearing etc regardless of what game I have played. I have also been very impressed with the 4K panel that TCL uses for this TV, the colors are great and the blacks are jet black and I cannot see how an OLED panel could do better and I do not have to worry about burn in. This TCL 55P607 has worked so well that I am considering purchasing two more for a multi monitor set up for my PC that is if I am able to purchase another 1080 as I am not sure if one can drive more than one TV at 4K resolutions. Jay at the price of this TCL TV I would encourage you to get one and check it out, I am certain that you would be very impressed. I do not think I could get a better preforming 4k TV even if I spent 3 times the amount. At only $650 there are no other 4K TVs that would be better at any price point.

So, my current 1080p IPS by Dell has an HDR feature... The issue with that is, when enabled, you can see too much of the flaws present in a 1080p display. When running FC5 and enabling HDR, everything looked overly bright and, when calibrated, just looked super pixelated due to HDR doing it's job too well LOL... I would not recommend HDR at anything under a 4k resolution. Even tough I was able to resolve this some by increasing the virtual res, the performance hit wasn't worth it and it honestly looks better at 1.1 res w/ freesync @ 75hz (again, it's IPS) than it does @ 2x res w/ HDR enabled. With that said, 2x 1080p is still 1/2 of 4k and you'll love the "unveiling" HDR does at UHD as I certainly have on a UHD TV (albeit sans gaming).

This is correct. I did not realize it but I work at a retailer that sells 4k movies and in fact they are not all HDR
@cliffmello6 жыл бұрын
Do you guys even understand what HDR is? .... It all breaks down to how the movie was filmed. HDR is High Dynamic Range - which if your filming a blu-Ray 4k -6k or even 8k your gonna film in a LOG or flat format which expands the cameras Dynamic Range - giving you more information in the shadows and highlights. Standard dynamic ranges are close to 6-8stops of information and HDR -a.k.a LOG/Flat picture format can go up to 16stops of information. Now after the LOG film is color graded the IRE values (shadows/highlights) are graded for standard Rec.709 which is what the industry has been forever. Which isn’t true HDR, but now we have 4k monitors with Rec.2020 which is helping us see more of the cameras ranges. Makes since? Oh well!
@gmak80526 жыл бұрын
BluHourCollective not sure why we needed to go into the definition and mechanics of hdr production. The point is not all 4k blu ray movies are HDR therefore do not playback on HDR tvs with the benifits of HDR consumer specification. And there is a huge difference.
@gmak80526 жыл бұрын
BluHourCollective And yes I am very aware of how hdr works companies like Sony, Samsung and LG have thoroughly trained me in the matter. The fact that you getting into a partial run down tells me odds are you are the one lacking information on HDR playback. You should look further into the matter you will be en light end.

@markp8446 жыл бұрын
To be fair it is 4k, it would look great on a game like The Witcher where, imo, resolution is more important than frame rate.

Then show me a 4k monitor with over 60 hz.
@ghomerhust6 жыл бұрын
60hz is currently the limit on 4k monitors. most high end 4k tvs only push 30hz at that pixel count.

+Mark Walls You do realize you'd need two Titans or 1080Tis to run even stable 60fps on 4K currently on anything above medium settings? it's not that they couldn't make a 4K panel with 100+ hz it's more the fact there's no way to use it, you can't even get four Vegas to run it in crossfire because AMD limited CF to 3-way, theoretically four Vegas could do it above 100hz but, welp, Vega is basically a Fury with more expensive design but without any proper extras. Note : Titans are completely sold out, 1080Tis are rare af and Quadro P6000 / GP100 is technically your only way to get highest end cards but those cost like $5 000-10 000 a pop.

You don't own anything that will push 4k at more than 60 hz even at low settings. Don't worry too much about it.

I had this when it first came out. I'm glad to see your panel had the weird hlow effect on the screen. I was pretty sure it was light bleed so I sent mine back. Now I just have the ud69p. Same panel, just doesn't have the hdr option and higher brightness

"HDR-ish" (like the Samsung 32:9 super ultra-wide monitor) The 1000 nits of brightness is *required for it to truly qualify as an HDR display. It also requires local dimming. I missed it if you said this has fully localized dimming.
@Uryendel6 жыл бұрын
Those screen use the new tech of lg nano-ips which is the equivalent of the qled of samsung, so yes they are some sort of local dimming, just hoping it's not as crappy as the samsung one

It all depends on the use case. I have a 3 "screen" setup. LG 65" UHD HDR OLED (16:9) for movies and streaming. Acer 27" 1440p (16:9) 165 HZ IPS for gaming. Huion 21" 1080p (16:9) IPS Pen Display for working on art. So it literally depends on the use case what I'm looking for. Would like 21:9 or more at high HZ and low latency when it's at a high enough quality for what I want. And when GPU's can run it, let's not forget that. ATM running on a EVGA 1080ti, and it's AWESOME 95,6% of the time. The last 4,4% is when I'm just asking too much.

That effect would be backlight bleed & quite normal on IPS displays. Some IPS displays are better then other in regards to that phenomenon, but I don't think it's as bothersome as Black Crush can be with a VA panel.

Been using my 24" Asus 1080p 120hz for what has to be close to 4 or 5 years now?! It's been flawless; not a dead pixel on it! I am ready for an upgrade now though.. thinking 27" 144hz

Great Video Jay, I do agree about the Ultra Wide version and the simplistic design, though the LG 27UK850-W does look like a promising start that can build up to that for LG, being that I am an owner of a LG 29UM68-P (Love Ultra Wide). Props on the effects in the video too , love the popup design elements!

Haven't tried playing on an HDR panel yet, but it pisses me off that there's an in-game setting I can't turn on, so I'll be upgrading soon I guess, especially after your feedback on the subject.

I own a X34 Predator and couldn't be happier with it as a PC gaming monitor ... I do wish there were more 21:9 content, especially through YT and Netflix though. I do often wonder whether I should get a 4k 16:9 monitor with a low response rate for my Xbox One X, perhaps this monitor would fit the bill. I'm personally not that bothered by HDR, it's nice to have but I value high refresh rates over that.

I don't have an opinion about hdr simply because I haven't seen it yet in person (altough when I see those tvs saying that the panel could reach 10000 nits I wonder what's the point of that, maybe tanning in front of a display). This monitor looks good, but why only 27 inches. And I'm certainly more into ultrawide too, it looks better than 16 9, and even today it's possible to have a good refresh rate over 60fps with a good gpu. I want a 40+ inches ultrawide monitor with good refresh rate, that's what I'd like to see.

60hz is an absolute minimum acceptable by many for the 4K as of today but is it a "true HDR"? And 5ms? But I think this panel is a baby step in a right direction.

I went to the store a few weeks ago and I tried finding a HDR monitor so I can see if it's worth it. The one they had wasn't working at the time so I didn't get to experience it. I have seen tvs with HDR and they're really nice. When they become more affordable I think I'll buy one.

What I want is Widescreeen curved 3440x1440 100hz+ True HDR 34" IPS G-Sync. Monitors are probably the slowest upgrade of any build so it needs to be right. I think LG have one coming later this year. I don't see the point in 4k gaming on a tiny 27" monitor you'll barley notice the difference in resolution compared with 1440.

This is just what I'm looking for! I'm a web developer and gamer and have never been satisfied with the whole gamer monitors. Being a IPS panel, would be interested in seeing how the color profile out of the box, would compare to my aging dell U3011.

I've been using a GTX 1080 for over a year now. I can run a handful of AAA games at 4K 60fps, so I use my 60 inch 4K TV. I also wanted to get a monitor to experience the high refresh rate and response time, so I got one that fit my needs that was on the cheap side. It was a 1080p 144hz monitor. I love the higher refresh rate, but at the same time I love 4K more than 1080p. You'll probably say you can't do too many games at 4K 144hz or higher, but I don't like switching back and forth between monitor and TV if I decide to go with a higher refresh rate. ALSO, it'd be sort of "future proof" as they say. I've never experienced HDR, though.
@Misa-hl5xw6 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree with the HDR. A lot of average consumers don't really see the jump from 1080 to 4k as being a huge jump like 720 to 1080 was. HDR is about the same impact to me as 720 to 1080 was. When buying, just make sure HDR also has Wide gamut. People are quick to pick up on nit but often miss the WCG. My tv monitor is 4k HDR with 444 chroma @ 60hz and I can't go back to a display without. The next big thing that will make me drop some serious money on a display will be HDMI 2.1 with it's built in adaptive sync. Especially at higher resolutions, the improved smoothness at 45-60fps really is a big gain and something i've missed. Thanks for the vid.

g sync is a must for a monitor for me also i like ultrawides right now but that isnt required. Must be over 100hz altho 144hz or 200hz is much more likely for me to buy resolution should be 3440x1440 / 2560x1440 - anything higher is too hard to run and too small, anything lower for some reason just doesnt look and feel right (?) must have vesa mount so i can put my own ergotech freedom arm on it. 27" to match my other monitors

lol i have no complaints, i have been gaming on a 55" Samsung MU8000 4k HDR TV since August of last year. Its beautiful with my PC hooked up to it. Only downside is not being able to display anything past 60hz lol. I could've bought a monitor several times over but haven't found one yet that is big enough lol. so i'll stick with mine for now till they start making monitors much bigger.... hard to downsize when your used to screens this size lol.

For a true HDR 10+ experience, said pannel needs to be at least 1000 nits to display. Basic HDR will give a slight contrast increase over SDR.

1440p is better for productivity I think as it is perfect withouts windows scaling, and which I think would be an issue with this one. I love my HP Omen 32 inch display. It's a VA with a wide viewing angle, freesync and the stand does not take up the whole freaking table like the other ones do, iI tried an LG 144 Hz gaming monitor and the tripod stands are week and not sturdy like this one. Did I mention it can also be vesa mounted so you can have a three monitor setup? Games are cool and all, but this 1440p is the best most convenient one I have ever found. It's also bigger than the one you mentioned because it's a 32 inch not a puny 27 inch like this one. Size does matter, especially when watching a show.

I will be concerned with displays after being able to upgrade my PC. I would pick 2 ultrawides that are 4k+ with high refresh rate first. I have so many things going at thee same time that screen space is much more important to me...but would not be against having a 3rd screen that is hdr off to the side for color correcting or watching movies or whatever.

I need help. The HDR has the problem of slightly changing brightness while watching a movie on PC or playing a PS4 pro game in HDR, even when Smart Energy Saving is set to off(which is actually grayed out when in HDR mode) So I set it to off when in SDR mode, then I hop into HDR mode again and the option looks to be still off but it is grayed out(As if the HDR is not even considering that option when it is in use). So What exactly is this?
@MADagain6 жыл бұрын
How confusing is it though when games have "actual HDR" features over the "filtered HDR" used in many older games before HDR had a standard on the display... hopefully you get what I mean. Still interesting to look at fake HDR settings over real ones.

For a 60hz 4k monitor I think that HDR is a great feature. I wouldn't want to game on it cause I like dat high frame rate lyf. But as an extra monitor for watching movies and youtube and stuff I think this is a tempting monitor.

my setup has two LG 27UD68p's and the only differences is theyre not hdr and doesnt have usb-c. When i considered how much content is actually hdr, i decided i didnt need it. my monitors go as low as $380 on amazon if you watch prices. This monitor is almost double.
