★ 4K 🇨🇭 Laupen - Bern - Langnau, cab ride Switzerland [09.2022] Führerstandsmitfahrt

Today we're looking at a couple of interesting lines in the canton of Bern aboard the S2 service. The line we're starting on formerly connected Flamatt & Gümmenen. In 1993, it was decided only to operate the line to Laupen due to the low volume of people that used the section to Gümmenen and the inadequate connects between trains there.
In a 2020 video from Geneva to Lucerne, you can see the line as it was being overhauled ( • ★ (4K reupload) Geneva... . For this purpose it was closed for a number of months. Amongst other things, the overhead wiring was completely renewed and the station of Laupen (formally a 5 track station) was moved a few hundred meters towards Flamatt and given just a single platform.

A lovely trip through amazingly green countryside. I speed my playbacks up to 5x and even then the long intervals between stations was enjoyable. There is a similar journey between Linthal and Ziegelbruecke, much of which is single track and is also an absolute joy to travel especially in winter on the S6 and S25

Nicely done video. A couple of things, the fact that this is a rural line, albeit through Bern, the length of trains running routinely is amazing. On a line like this in Australia, it would be 2 cars at most. Secondly, it sounded like a flat spot on a wheel which was different given the standards of maintenance are so high on the BLS. Thanks for sharing.

Small flat spots like this one aren't crucial to fix straight away. During the autumn months, some are inevitable even with trains that have ABS.

Thank you for a very interesting and beautiful video. While the last section, from Gumligen to Langnau is a little 'off the beaten track', the first section Laupen to Flamatt must see very few foreign tourists! However the highlight of the trip was passing through the brand new underpass as Wylerfeld, just after leaving Bern.

The first section (or last, depending which way you're going) up to Laupen looks as if it's been reconstructed quite recently with new track and ballast and new platforms. Flamatt Dorf is interesting with the motorway flyover flying across the valley. 3.1%? That's quite a climb to get up to the main line at Flamatt

Yes, the station used to be a few hundred metres further behind us at the start. The current station was completed in 2021 I think.

I've just realised that Bowil station is near where an ex-DB Br.01 4-6-2, nr. 01 180, was on static display for over 30 years. It was returned to Germany via Bowil station and was eventually restored to working order.

I think it's mainly in this direction due to the left hand drive, I guess if there are trains coming from Konolfingen and heading to the right hand tracks in Bern (high numbers) it might make sense using this too. I haven't been there since it opened.

@@lorirocks777 I am not familiar with the GoPro line. Most videos I have seen which were taken with a GoPro have barrel distortion, due to their super wide angle lens. Vertical lines (Catenary poles) at the sides of the picture are curved. Your videos do not have that problem. I will have to look into that. Thanks for you answer.

Früher war es eine zusammenarbeit. Da gab es täglich Züge mit gemischte Doppeltraktionen (Re465 mit 460/420/620). Im Gütervekehr sind sie direkte Konkurrenten, im Personenverkehr weniger, aber die BLS wollte auch SBB Linien für sich gewinnen.

A lot better camera mounting on this journey. Had this unit wheel problems? A wheel flat or a hunting (side to side)axle. Sounded like it was running on jointed track. Also the wheel squeal going into Bern would indicate attention needed on the wheel sets. Looked like new snow on the far mountains in what looks to be late summer with harvest near finished and the trees still green.

Wheel flange squeals are completely normal, they even have a setup in Bern to lubricate the tracks to avoid the worst of it. Better camera mounting compared to what?
