★ 4K 🇨🇭 Schwarzenburg - Bern cab ride, Switzerland [08.2022]

In this video we'll be looking at a unique single track branch line connecting Bern with the town of Schwarzenburg.
The following points make this line unique:
- Gradients of up to 35 ‰
- Spring loaded switches that can be driven over in the wrong direction
- Metal signs representing distant signals (if the home signal isn't visable, the driver has to expect that it's red).
- One exit signal for all tracks at respective stations
- Some level crossings without barriers

Another relaxing video showing Switzerland’s rural areas and rail systems at their best👏👍 17:52/21:02/26:49 and no doubt some I missed. Spring loaded points - first time I’ve noticed them in use. I notice these as I’m a steam fan, my Great Grandfather worked for the British LMS company, plus I had my own 5” gauge 0-6-0 steam tank engine and a Model Engineer hobby shop in the ‘70-‘80s.

Why are Swiss farms always so picturesque? The one near the start could be on a postcard(3:23). Old Massey Ferguson, it looks like, faded by the sun, on the corner at3:52. Some interesting tractor activity at6:00too. And look at that house with all the flowers on the balconies at6:46, just past the old Ford tractor. Interesting long wheelbase crew cab Land Rover too on the left just past that. OK, shall I shut up now 😶

Are the trains infrequent in Switzerland that it can manage with single track or there is separate track for passenger trains and load carrying/goods trains ? I hope someone from EU can answer. Amazing view though.

Oh no, most services are at least half-hourly. They can just operate single line sections very efficiently with the use of CTC and the famous Swiss punctuality. The only freight trains you're likely to get up here will be engineering trains which will probably operate at night, or if there are sidings serving industries (of which there are still quite a lot in Switzerland) they'll be timetabled between the passenger services

It varies, but yes, weekends do have more explorers. During the week there are a lot of seniors groups, the workforce and holiday makers.
