@@perfctlyy We would have had to pay him an amount that would have hamstrung us in terms of signing players needed to improve the team. We figured we could reset the deck and not bankrupt ourselves to get a team that loses in the first round of the playoffs... Our Offensive Line is the reason Caleb is struggling. Fields covered up how bad they were with his running ability. Smart fans here knew that. Hopefully he plays well for you all... And, the League only wanted to trade a 6th Round Pick for Justin, so we weren't the only ones who were not high on him...

@@busyrand you could have gotten a boatload of draft picks for that 1st pick and grabbed another wideout and JPJ at center from Oregon and added more depth across the offensive line and an edge rusher. You'd have a young team on rookie contracts and negated anything Fields would have been making. Don't sip the koolaide. It's bad for you. Ryan Poles screwed JF because he wanted his own guy. The next one to be sacrificed is Eberflus. If Caleb Williams don't work out, RP is on borrowed time. He has no one else to sacrifice.

You know, while I was watching this video I thought the same exact thing! The new OC really understands how to call a game and is calling up things the Steelers have never done before. I’m writing this after week 3. Obviously last week they got Washington his first NFL TD. I watched a video today breaking down every single play in that drive that detailed every blocking assignment and pass route, and there’s obviously a very smart man behind the scenes. I’m also very happy about the play of the offensive line, and we didn’t even have our best players out there in general due to injuries. Then you consider the defense, and that’s a whole different story. They allowed the Chargers -5 yards in the second half, which is #4 all time NFL least yards allowed in a half.

@@jackhaughI kinda disagree to an extent. The new OC still feels like he has Matt Canada's playbook for 75% of the game. The only exception is when they HAVE to score. When they are in attack mode, their offense looks unstoppable. But SO many drives go exactly like this: 1st down run for 2 yards. 2nd and 8 screen or sweep for 0 yards. 3rd and 8 throw to the sticks, incomplete because they have 5 guys guarding sticks because it's 3rd and 8. It's just so predictable. If you watch a cheifs game, you never know what play they are running. When I watch the Steelers, I predict their plays with RIDICULOUS accuracy. If I can predict it, you know NFL defensive coordinators are predicting it. But when they are in 2 minute drill or in a position where they need to score, they look like super bowl contenders

I have been saying this for some time now…. In Chicago, the issue was poor offensive line play, bad offensive schemes and offensive coordinators, and lack of play makers….. The Bears should have never drafted Caleb Williams. Shanahan learned that the hard way with Lance, you're better off waiting for a QB with a good team than to build a team around a fresh qb. The Steelers cleared the qb room and got Russ real quick on the cheap, then Justin Fields became available for trade. Justin Fields is younger than Kenny Pickett and has 3 years experience already. Russ might still have some ball left in him but why waste time when Fields can potentially be the starter long term for the Steelers. They would be stupid to give Russ a long term deal after this season. Fields is finally playing for a competent coach and franchise too.

Literally one of the easiest schedules to start the season ever, and a lot of luck aswell. One of the Steelers offensive Field Goals was 100% on Chargers penalties yardage and they lost their starting QB mid game, until that point they were better on both sides of the ball, it was a huge mommentum swing, doesn't mean anything... Meanwhile, you have the Steelers, who are no means QB whisperers, but they are one of the most stable franchises in the league with a storied history. SET UP from the beginning. Tomlin said in an interview a week before training camp "He & Arthur Smith had to find a way to give Fields extended playing time to see what he could do". BLOCKING SLED was THEN required for 35 year old QB Wilson to push on the 1ST DAY of training camp, when it's NEVER been required of "any" NFL QB prior to that. Wilson SUPPOSEDLY injures calf and Fields takes EVERY 1st team rep in training camp while Wilson was relegated to 1-on-1 drills. 1st preseason game Fields plays, Wilson sits. 2nd preseason game Wilson started but WITHOUT sufficient practice time with 1st team, looks bad. 3rd preseason game Wilson starts after having "some" 1st team practice reps and looks GOOD during 1 brief series that ended in a TD and Tomlin immediately PULLS him from the game and inserts Fields. Tomlin said in an interview after game he pulled Wilson after ONE brief series as "he wanted to give Fields extended playing time". After that game, Wilson said his "injury" was NEVER that serious and the Steelers only wanted to be "cautious" with him but it was the regular season he would start without hesitation. 10 days later Tomlin announced Wilson was the starter for 1st regular season game BUT said it was "a difficult decision" and Fields would get plenty of playing time in packages "because it was too much talent to leave on the bench". ONE day later Tomlin announces in a post practice press conference Wilson SUPPOSEDLY aggravates his calf that was originally caused from "pushing the blocking sled" and Fields will be the starter for 1st regular season game against Falcons. Longtime Pittsburgh Post Gazette Sports Writer Ray Fittapaldi asked Tomlin during the press conference "when did Wilson inform you he re-injured" his calf". Tomlin, surprised by the question, responds "he was a limited participant in practice" and NEVER answers the question. Mark Kaboly, longtime Pittsburgh sports writer who's covered Steelers for 2 decades, says on the Pat McAfee show that Wilson was "visibly frustrated" during the Falcons game and WANTED to play BUT Tomlin and Smith were NEVER going to allow him to play. Afterwards, Mark Madden, longtime Pittsburgh Sports Commentator, asserts all of the drama was caused from the Steelers requiring Wilson to push a "blocking sled" and Fields NEVER would have had an opportunity to start had Wilson not been injured. Madden ends his commentary saying the whole thing was FABRICATED. 2 days later the Steelers FORCE Wilson to do an interview where he says his "injury was far more serious" that initially stated BUT this goes against all reports weeks BEFORE that said his injury was NOT that serious. I seriously DOUBT Wilson was EVER injured and the Steelers coaches simply used the blocking sled calf injury as an excuse to "see what they have" in Fields since both he and Wilson are on 1 year contracts. Wilson has been told "to shut the hell up and hold a clipboard and we call you if we need you". EITHER this is actual scenario OR Tomlin & Smith INTENTIONALLY required Wilson to push a blocking sled so he would get injured. My gut says option #1 and Wilson was NEVER injured.

The funny thing is, this is no where near Justin’s ceiling. He hasn’t been able to play free since he left Ohio St. The man has had more coaches than Macys. They want to change his feet, change his throw. Just let the man play. Tomlin dangling his job over his head like he the warden doesn’t help either. Especially when everyone knows that Tomlin and Russ are buddy buddies. When Justin gets that check and that solidified QB1 title along with a coach like Mike McDaniel who actually knows how to run a offense around the player instead of having a player run a offense around the coach, he’s going to go full Short Bus on the entire league!

Free as in having actual coaches that are capable of not only recognizing a players strengths and abilities but one that designs an offense that puts him in the best position to utilize those strengths and abilities which he hasn’t had yet in his entire NFL career. The last time that Justin had all those freedoms that I mentioned was when he was at Ohio st. He knew he was undoubtedly QB1. He had one of the best and most capable coaches. And he had both weapons and protection. Lol you brought up 13-4 ratio but do you know what his ratio was his last season at Ohio st…. 41-3. That’s freedom. That’s capable coaching. With Pittsburgh defense, if you can consistently effectively run the ball, that’s a championship recipe right there. Just run the ball and control the clock. HeII even Pat Mahomes can’t do shjt without the ball.

Instead we traded for Darnold and which looking back really wasn't bad. However, in hindsight I see thar our organization just was not conducive to garnering a winning culture. So I am truly happy things are and pray they will continue to work in Justin's favor. The kid is a true warrior.

Bruh you're right but there were more out there. There were two passes called back that would have had them inside the ten. One in the ATL game and another one in the Denver game in addition to the TD that did get called back. So there is a realistic chance that there are 3 additional TDs they could have scored based on Justin's arm getting them inside the 10. So 5 legit TD drives in two games in addition to what Boz is doing would look a lot better. Penalties wiped all three off the board, not poor QB play. So the production has been there, the offense needs to clean up the mistakes.

If you look at Fields in college he showed a lot of different types of throws and displayed a lot of arm talent/touch. His issue was always going to be if he could dissect a defense and coverage before/after the snap and that the talent on his team was not going to be a step above the majority of competition. In order to assess a defense as a QB and be productive you either need to be very meticulous in preparation, have great coaching/teaching, have an O-Line that gives you enough time, be able to extend the play long enough for your brain to process, and/or have insane talent that always gets separation. If you don't have at least 2-3 of these you're going to fail, doesn't matter who you are. I honestly believed before the season, Russ or Fields was going to be a scapegoat given 4-6 weeks and if they lost 2 or more games in a row they were going to get pulled and blamed for everything. Now that Fields is hot they'll ride him until the wheels fall off, if they ever do.
