A couple of things that come to mind. With the electronic system in the Mitsi. or any of them make sure that you go into each mode one at a time, make sure it engages and then go to the next one or they can get a bit cranky. Another thing with autos when you are using the handbrake on a hill make sure that you are hanging the weight of the vehicle on the handbrake and not the transmission. Just banging it into park and then pulling the handbrake on will mean it may be held by the transmission before the brake has a chance to engage. From what I have heard it can cause expensive damage to transmissions over time.

thanks for the input OB. good point about letting it get into the new mode before moving it to the next one. Mine gets used fairly regularly and I think this helps it, its rare mine gets hung up between modes but it happens every now and then. a little back and forth usually sorts it.

you can change from 2H to 4H up to 100km/h, not 80. things that were not mentioned but are quite important : when changing to 4HLC and 4LLc the gearbox must be in neutral position. (that info is also present in the manual and small screenvisor card)
@DENMONKEY
@DENMONKEY 8 ай бұрын
yeah the 80-100 thing changed over the years, they certainly refer to 100km with relation to the newer units. I don't think I need to be going that quick when making the change though. Typically I wont do it over about 40 given the chance. And yes to the old pajero shuffle. You know when you're out with other pajeros and either getting on or off the track when everyone pulls up to stick it in neutral to put it into or out of 4wd :)

Great vid, thanks for the comparison! Can you discuss the effect of stability control vs traction control in your next vid? I see lot of confusion in the groups and on the forums on the difference between the two and how stability cuts power when off road vs traction braking the spinning wheel to deliver power where it's needed.
@Uberkreig
@Uberkreig 3 жыл бұрын
I would also love to hear your thoughts on the throttle controller you have!
@DENMONKEY
@DENMONKEY 3 жыл бұрын
i can do that but you pretty much nailed it. ASC cuts power to the engine and TC breaks the specific wheel that is slipping. I do find when ASC kicks in TC does it's thing too. so they work at the same time but when your straight and doing some 4wd, TC does its thing on its own I'm yet to have ASC kick it going straight but have had it do its thing around corners.
@taalmcmaster7984
@taalmcmaster7984 3 жыл бұрын
Its best to turn ASC off when on sand or on slippery tracks, ASC is different to TC. TC works by applying the brakes to the wheels that has no traction which in the end transfer the power to the wheels that as traction when you cross over. ASC is design to keep you on the road, when grip cannot be maintained at each tyre while driving on slippery road surfaces or due to sudden steering wheel input, braking force is applied at one or more wheels and engine output is automatically adjusted to help the driver maintain control, which makes ASC a momentum killer when off-roading, especially in the sand. When I first brought my Pajero I was having so much trouble driving in the sand I was thinking at the time there was something wrong with the vehicle. So I jump on the net and found out that ASC was the problem when I was driving in the sand and boy did it make a different when I disabled it. DENMONKEY I was surprised you didn’t have ASC disabled when you were in 4H center diff locked.

Nice vid mate, good to see you are getting famous in your neck of the woods. At the beginning you said you lowered pressures to 30psi, maybe lowered to 18-20psi for rock steps would have made the difference?
@DENMONKEY
@DENMONKEY 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, that was normally only down to 30 or so..usually 28 ish for just running on dirty type roads that don't require any real 4wheeling. just purely for the comfort factor. On this one I only went down to 25. this allows me to reduce my pressures but not low enough that I can't just run to the local servo to top up without the need to air up on the trail. would lower had made a difference here? maybe but i think it would have been marginal. If it was dry I'd say yes, but because the rocks were slippery and there was a clay base there too, I don't think the impact would have been much at all. That said, If I was stuck there, it would be the first thing I would have done.

Great video, one quick question. I have a 2012 3dr pajero and when I go into low range the asc off light never comes on. When I get stuck or when one wheel looses traction, the ts doesn't seem to stop the wheel that's spinning in 4h. Any suggestions? Maybe a fuse?
@anthonyramdin1037
@anthonyramdin1037 3 жыл бұрын
In 4h with the center unlocked, that's an on road awd setting basically so in an off road situation the tc wouldn't work effectively. If you switch it to 4h locked the traction control mapping changes because the center is now locked which means that the vehicle knows it's off road so it will work differently. Idk if this was what you were asking?

traction control is more intense in 2H and 4H because the stability and traction has authority over the throttle... 4HLC and 4LLC disables this and the system relies solely on braking authority. In 2h and 4h the TCL/ASC intervention is strong enough to sometimes bring the car to a complete stop.

Hey AAT, yes mate it sure does. It makes a rapid clicking noise and sounds like its behind the dash. Sounds like a relay clicking or the like. That's normal. Hi Steve, here's a video of the install of the tc mod from Vlad. Is that the one you mean ? Re the diff lock mate, that one is a bloody rabbit hole. It seems Mitsubishi had the RDL as factory in some models but not others, then removed it, then put it back in and it was only offered as an option with vehicles without sun roofs or something stupid like that. Basically, there's no obvious list to follow. You just need to look at the specific car to find out. :)

I think, when the car is not moving, shift from 2H to 4H, should be done in Neutral.
@DENMONKEY
@DENMONKEY 3 жыл бұрын
2h to 4h can be done up to around 80km anything else requires stopped in neutral. Didn't hurt so it for everything though I guess. Just not required.

@@DENMONKEY Great Vid man. One note though...from 4h to 4hlc can still be done while driving (up to 100km). Only going to and out of 4llc car needs to be stationary and in N. Either way, great videos!

From the video, it looks like you're lifting off the accelerator too early. This doesn't give the traction control enough time to intervene. To make traction control work, you need to keep the throttle applied.
@DENMONKEY
@DENMONKEY 8 ай бұрын
That's exactly what I do. I try to apply the minimal amount of effort to get through an obstacle , especially when 'testing' or trying to show it working. Tc definitely requires more acceleration to be applied to get it to operate effectively. The challenge here is, too much right foot can see the free wheel spin up fast and when it comes down to meet the ground the sudden stop can cause breakages, usually a cv joint. So it's a fine line between too little and too much throttle. I like to work up to it for the benefit of the pajero and the track. The tc on the paj though is some of the best I've ever seen. It's bloody awesome

A little bit of momentum on the first 2WD you would have gotten up. Go the Pajero :)
@DENMONKEY
@DENMONKEY 3 жыл бұрын
but then I would have had nothing to test :) I likely could have done a lot of it in the lesser modes with more right foot or a change of line but it was more about the pajero than my techniques

DENMONKEY more flex and maybe a bit better reduction in the transfer case for 4L. That aside an underrated vehicle. Pity Mits haven’t further developed and will be stopping production in the 1st half of 2021. Cheers...

it would do but that section I recorded isn't the only part of the track I needed to cover and the 25psi was a happy medium for the day. There were other options for making the climb but I wanted to leave the work to the traction modes for the examples.
