4x4 Brake failure: no problem, but what to do?

I educate that the brakes are THE most important part of the vehicle, stopping makes most situations 100% safe. Keep a set of bleed nipples in the tool kit, then you just remove the offending pipe's union and fit the bleed nipple, it safely locks that system component off. Having spare pipe and a simple hand held tool an mean you are able to repair the system at site. The other thing to consider is with a few different unions, you can also repair other people's vehicles if need be, all you need to know is how to properly do pipe flares.

Especially the older cars with a single circuit brake system, one leak and you have no brakes! I have a new pipe kit ready to go in. ( once the holidays are over.) I was thinking about putting in a dual circuit system from a series 3 on my 1966, but decided against modifying the car. Cheers Geoff.👍

Try finding a rock in the Simpson Desert or Fraser Island. My recommendation is to maintain your vehicle and carry the necessary tools so you don't need a rock to do any repairs.

I’m really surprised you don’t pack a hammer! If you’re looking for story ideas, I’d be really interested in a few episodes covering the top failure point for each system: ie brakes - here are the top two problems I’ve experienced and the fixes that’ll get you to the next town; clutch top two; engine; cooling, electrics etc.

It's a land rover. If the brakes fail, just get out. They don't go fast enough to need brakes.

It seems like some information is being missed out. So you cut the punchered line. Then crimp the mastercylinder side off the line. Then fill cylinder back up with spear fluid. I noticed there's 2 other lines going out of the cylinder which will be sufficient.

Yes it's a dual system front and back individual lines, works unless all the fluid escapes. Always best to carry a small bottle of brake fluid on board and a couple of brake nipples, to blank off the master cylinder, after taking out the leaking pipe. I had to do this once on an old Morris van.

Yeah because using the transmission hand brake is far from ideal!

Brakes? The only car I needed brakes on was my Mini, and that was to save the transfer bearings! Brakes are for simps!
