One time I was on the bus and I was wearing light colored jeans and I already knew I leaked so I tried to use my jacket.... I had to sit in the aisle seat(the outside of the seat spot) and I got up and there was a big red spot! A boy about a year older was sitting next to me so it was embarrassing! He asked me if I needed a pad/tampon and pulled out one of each from his bag and offered them to me... Turns out he has 8 sisters over the age of 10 so he keeps his bag stocked cause he knows how it is!!

I got my first in my favorite teachers class while I was getting help after school. I got up to go to the bathroom and we both noticed red on the chair and I got really confused but then it hit me that I got it. The next thing I knew my teacher went to her purse and got me a pad. When I got back to the room I had tears In my eyes and was apologizing profusely (she kept telling me it was no big problem and that I should not feel bad) and then she gave me a hug and called my parents. It was embarrassing but I still love that teacher

God im not ready for this!" 😂 and he went and bought me some pads and when he came back he was like " trust me on this, okay?! Remember i was with your mom since she was 14. Put on your sweatpants, a tank top and your flip flops and lets go" so then he took me to the store and bought $38 on chocolate, gummy candy and ice cream for the both of us and then pizza. Mind you i was 10 and he was 27.

the diva cup stays secure because of suction. fold it to get it in and let it unfold. adjust you get a good seal, this part can take practice, and you're good till you can empty it. I wouldn't try to do this in a bathroom that you have to share the sink. to take the cup out you have to break the seal otherwise the suction only gets stronger the more you pull. that hurts. super reusable but does have a learning curve getting it in right and taking it out.

The diva cup was a LIFESAVER for me. I have very very big periods (I had to wear adult dippers to bed because anything else was just not enough). Although it does have a little learning curve (suction is NOT fun), once i knew how to use it, which took about 2 periods, it was perfect in every way. It never leaked, the period smell was completely gone (!!!!!), and it didn't feel like you had anything at all, so more comfortable than a tampon (cause at least for me, when mine got too soaked they moved around and got uncomfortable). I would just take it out in the shower twice a day (second shower was really quick, just for that purpose and I was good to go). Honestly, it's such a life changer. You'll also save soooo much in the long term. 200% would recommend.

I got my period at lunch on the day before the last day of school. I was walking back from the microwave when I felt something weird. I sat down and I told my best friend sitting next to me, and she didn’t believe me. Then I started leaking and we both freaked out. We both got up without asking and ran out the door of the cafeteria. We both ran to the bathroom and, of course, neither on of us had a pad/tampon/ literally anything.🤦🏼♀️ So I stuck what felt like half a roll of toilet paper in my underwear. My best friend gave me her jacket and I wrapped it around my waist and we ran to the nurse. At this point I was hyperventilating thinking that I was going to die. I had dreaded wearing a pad and swore to myself to never ever use one because it grossed me out. We walked into the nurse’s office, tell her what happened, and she gave me a PAD! I was devastated. As soon as I got home (which was like 8 because I had a pizza party and church after school) I told my mom to buy me tampons or I wasn’t using anything. Luckily I got my way and haven’t used a pad since (except at night, goodness I hate those things). TMI, I know but, it seems fitting 😂

chelsea maria if you pull them out at an angle no. Be sure to stay relaxed while you are taking the tampon out. Don’t try to push it out (if that makes sense) Don’t be scared of Tampa’s because it’ll just make your experience worse. I have a really heavy flow, so my periods were crippling. I would miss school when I was younger, and even miss work. Once I tried the Diva Cup, I never went back. It honestly gave me control of my life back. It says 12 hours to change, when in reality it's closer to 2 hours at the max for me. It honestly is fantastic and helps with cramps, too. It was super terrifying to use the first time, though. I had to talk myself up in the bathroom for a good 15 minutes, lol

When I was 10 I somehow cut myself down there and started bleeding and my mom thought I had my period. Then a few months later when I turned 11 I actually got it but I was so convinced I just cut myself that I started crying cuz I felt like I was a disappointment. In my religion, girls have the option of having a Womaning ceremony where older bleeding women bestow gifts and impart wisdom on the new maiden. I was dressed head to toe in red, decked in gold plated jewelry and as a bonus was henna'd all over (because my mom is a henna artist). It was awesome and I wish more girls had that experience. It was nice to feel like becoming a woman was a magical thing instead of a horrible secret (which is what my friends were taught)

Serious question: can someone tell us how you use the diva cup!!!
@rachelramos63268 жыл бұрын
Erin Robinson divacup.com/how-it-works/how-it-works/ Practice really is key. Also there are many types of menstrual cups to choose from. The diva cup may not be the right shape or firmness for everyone.
@alcormier908 жыл бұрын
Erin Robinson Essentially you fold it and insert it, then it kinda "pops" open. There's teeny holes at the top near the rim that creates a suction, so it stays in place. Then to remove it, you pinch the bottom to release the suction and pull it out. Then you can dump it out into the toilet and rinse it out or wipe it out with toilet paper or a moist wipe. Then it's good to reinsert. That's the super abridged version. Haha How you fold and insert really depends on you and your body. But there's a TON of videos and articles with a lot of really great info and instructions! It can be a little overwhelming and daunting at first. It takes a little practice, and I will say you DEFINITELY have to be/get really comfortable with your body. But I definitely recommend trying it. Once you've got the hang of it, it really makes your periods a lot easier to deal with!
@SuperChocolateSwirl8 жыл бұрын
They're seriously amazing. The first time you use one it will be scary, and it will probably take a couple tries, but the information that the Diva Cup company provides is actually helpful, so I would recommend getting familiar with it before you start. For insertion they show two fold styles, one that's sort of U-shaped, and one that is more like a cone (hard to describe). Everyone is different, but my preference has been the 2nd version, as it's a little more gradual. Like other people have been saying, to remove it you have to insert a finger to break suction. The last thing I think you need to be aware of is insertion on the first day of your period is almost always a little uncomfortable, but every day afterwards is super easy and I almost forget it's even in there! I think ultimately if you are really comfortable with tampons trying a menstrual cup is a great next step. They last a long time and they can be left in for up to 12 hours, which can really ease your worries if you are like me and frequently forget about the 8hr time limit on tampons. It does seem scary, but we were all scared of tampons before we used them, but we got over that and menstrual cups are the same in that way.

Erin Robinson Essentially you fold it to insert it, then once it is in you can twist it to form a seal and may have to put a finger in to circle the cup and make sure it unfolded. That's really it! It's easy for me to just pull it out and it's very comfortable to wear.

@amy27718 жыл бұрын
Unless your parents have a serious concern about you using tampons it's all up to you. You get to choose when you're ready and no one can pressure you or tell you otherwise. It's your body. And I know the first few years are scary, but It gets easier. I'd recommend a period tracker app or marking it down on a calendar so it's easier to remember when it's due. Although, the first year or two aren't usually very steady and can be really difficult to track.
@shafaghb8 жыл бұрын
The length of the vaginal canal slightly correlates with height of the person and the width is the opposite, means when the person gets shorter it gets wider, and I think the length doesn't have anything to do with fitting a diva cup. Thought sizes varies, but if you are taller than average there is a bigger possibility of having difficulty with this.

Estella Marshall They are made out of medical grade silicone. Like what they make the outer portion of breast implants with. Breast implants are in bodies for way longer than 12 hours. On the Diva Cup - I've used them for years cause they're far more sustainable - I've never had experiences of them overflowing or anything, and generally feel much more secure with them than tampons. To remove it - no nice way to say this - you just have to slide another finger up there to break the suction. It's so scary at first, but I would definately reccomend it to everyone!

Agreed! Love my Diva Cup. It's defitniely awkward the first few times (best to try it out on a lazy day or 2 at home). Worth it though. You can kind of just go about your regular day without feeling like you have your period (if not for the cramps). I LOVE it for swimming/the beach. I feel way less vulnerable. I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone who isn't comfortable with tampons, first. One awkward step at a time...

how does what you use effect the flow?
@amandaguthrie90458 жыл бұрын
Kawaii it's because of all the chemicals from the disposable products I was using. Having such a heavy flow meant I was using prob twice as many products during my period(I bough pons at Costco because it was so heavy) plus my periods lasted 2 weeks at a time. I went to an OB from the time I was 14 because I had all the symptoms of endometriosis but I didn't actually have it. They couldn't ever figure out the issue. I even had a procedure where they put a camera in my uterus but still couldn't figure out what was going on. But once I started using cups and cloth pads I haven't had an issue. My period is 6 days now instead of 2 weeks.

Yes, the bleach used to bleach the absorbent cotton in tampons and pads actually does cause worse cramping and endometriosis sometimes.

Diva cup is so wonderful and I'm so grateful I used it early in my period life. Your first couple periods can be a bit tricky with learning how to get it in/out (make sure it's around your cervix) but I've only leaked maybe three times because I put it in incorrectly. You can wear it in you for twelve hours (recommended) with 0 risk of toxic shock syndrome which means you can go the whole day, sleep with it in, and can change it when you shower/get home from work/school. It's maybe fifteen bucks and even after a year it's still in perfect condition! Super cost, eco, and lady friendly. Everybody I know who uses it loves it. 300/10 would recommend

I originally bought the diva cup because i was going to go on a month long backpacking trip in the rockies and dint want to have to pack out my used tampons. Now I know going into this comment with that description makes me sound like some epic mountain woman, but no, I'm just a normal girl, normal flow, normal levels of activity (didnt i just say i went backpacking for a month? yeah but I promise, I'm a legit couch potato normally), and I LOVE the diva cup. It hurt at first to put it in, but once you become more familiar with it and your body it gets much easier. It lasts WAY longer than tampons, and there is no risk of toxic shock, so if you're having a light day, leave it longer, no worries. It's great for the environment, its also better for your vagina (tampons are soaked in chemicals and can leave microscopic tears in you vag which makes you more susceptible to STDs). Not to mention you're going to save hella money not buying tampons every month. It is a little unnerving at first to see the blood, which is peoples first concern, and yes it gets on your fingers a little. It's honestly not a big deal though, you wipe your hands off with toilet paper, then wash them in the sink like normal. People tend to emphasize those little inconveniences over the HUGE number of benefits. I was a little sad that the video starts to rip on products that they hadn't even tested personally, so that's why I'm leaving this comment. I love it, it just takes a little bit of a commitment to properly test the product. Everyone who I have recommended the cup to has agreed that although its weird at first, it is one of the best period products out there.

When I tried it, I was hooked: way better for the environment, pain-free (sometimes I have discomfort from tampons), NO LEAKS EVER, and you can wear it for double the length - 8-12 hours. Which means you can change it at home, never at work. It's awesome.

Hey ladies! Thanks for showing some of these. Just wanted to say that a LOT of ladies including myself can't use tampons or anything insertable due to conditions like endometriosis or vaginismus. The fabric pads are actually really absorbent and they're so much softer on the skin unlike the plastic disposable ones. That's why I use them, not because of the environment (although that's a bonus). So just wanted to let you know, that not everyone can do the "ungross" option of tampons...

I use a majority of these products... The cloth pad needs to be washed a few times to become absorbent. The sponge can have a string attached and is just like a tampon in my opinion. The diva cup is based on suction, you just released the suction to taking it out. I love all of these products and could never use a chemical filled tampon that leaves behind dangerous fibers.

You know there's organic tampons, right? Just saying. I have used most stuff too, but not the sponge. I love alternatives, especially because they make me feel different about my period. I remember the first time I used my moon cup - and got to pour out the blood instead of throwing away a pad - it was magic, I felt so much more happy about not creating trash. I switch between tampons and moon cup, and I always have a reusable pad aswell(might need a bigger cup, I guess), because suddenly I need it, I tend to leak and also use tampons til they are full sometimes. But I hardly never use non-organic, that's not nice to think about having something unpure inside my body.

The Diva Cup is amazingg!!! There is a little tab to pull it out and I pitch the bottom a little to break the suction, but you can literally wear it all day and not worry about it, I was also worried about how big it was but it isn't bad at all when you fold it up. It lasts for 10 years because it is silicon and it about 30 dollars, and is reusable. It is a healthy (No risk of TSS) and cheap alternative to tampons or pads :)

The diva cup is great. It lasts for approximately 6- 12 hours depending on how much you bleed. It is great for the environment!

I never thought I could be into reusable products but my first attempt was reusable cloth liners because the disposables seemed to be irritating me. After switching I had far less problems and my period cramps lessened and my period lightened. I then switched from tampons to menstrual cups and now only have a 3/4 day period. It's way lighter and I rarely ever have cramps. It's easy to use and clean. I highly recommend researching cups before buying to better estimate the size you'll need. The wrong size is usually the buggest issue women have. Don't buy unknown crap from China though. You don't know what they're made of and even a $20-$25 investment can last 3+ years so the savings isn't worth ruining your innards for!

In 7th grade I would wait for hours to go to the bathroom and my periods were super abnormal (this particular time i went 3 months without it) then on a day i was wearing black leggings (i had to because i was a cheerleader) I started. I had gym first so everything started flowing. I went to 2 classes after gym until i realized i was on it and blood was on both chairs and it got on my homework too. It was on the chairs for like a week and i never told anyone it was me

@sienaqk8 жыл бұрын
Amalie Aguayo how do you take it out though?
@kariscains51988 жыл бұрын
Okay so it's like a cup that suctions to the sides and there's a little nub thing at the bottom. So when you're ready to take it out you just grab hold of the nub and usually just some light pressure against the side of the cup will break the seal (this shouldn't be gross because the top of the cup has formed a seal and nothing has leaked past it). I love my diva cup. It's changed my periods. I don't feel gross. I haven't messed up any panties since I got it. You don't need to worry about changing it frequently like a tampon. You don't run out and need to make an emergency run to the store. It's amazing. I can't believe how much I love it.
@727amalie8 жыл бұрын
Simply Catherine Thank you for your response Karis! I love not having to change my tampon once in a day and the cup still has plenty of room if it were to have been a heavier day. I just pull slightly and the seal breaks and then can just pull it out and dump it right down the toilet. Since I only do this once a day I do it at home so I can clean my cup & re insert it.

I LOVE my Diva Cup as well, had it for almost a year now and I recommend it to everyone that is sick of pads and tampons. They are the best of both worlds.

Nah dude diva cups are the SHIT it's so useful!!! For getting it, you legit just pinch the bottom and pull, then dump the contents in the toilet. It's awesome if you're more clotty or dont like dealing with it (as a trans guy it gives me a good deal of dysphoria) but with cups you just have to deal with it in the morning & before you go to bed

Diva cups are great. They don't scratch or anything like that... they're made of very smooth body safe silicone. They don't really overflow when they're full. If you don't have them seated properly, they can leak in a very messy way, but once you get used to using them they're pretty easy. You can leave them in for up to 12 hours, so you don't have to get up in the middle of the night ever again, yay, or wake up with disgusting sheets. They don't block clots and stuff from coming out, or restrict the flow, or press on the cervix (when you have the right cup for your body type), so for me there was a lot less cramping and discomfort during my period. They're really easy to clean, usually I just rinse it out thoroughly with water, and wash it once a day with unscented and dye free feminine wash. The Diva cup can hold a half ounce of blood and stuff, so most days I can make it through a full work day without having to empty it. There are loads of different cups out there, with different sizes and shapes and colours for all body types and preferences. Most of them have stems and/or ridges along the bottom of the cup so you can easily remove them by just gently pulling, but sometimes it also helps to bear down a little imo. I'm a total convert, I've been using them for a few years now and even on my worst, heaviest days I can go hiking and work and swim and whatever else without any accidents or having to carry around a giant bag of tampons, and they're like a one time expense and last for several years. I used to have to have all different absorbencies of tampons plus pads and liners, and I would have to buy at least one box of tampons per month, which really adds up! I don't know if I could try the sea sponge thing, but I can't say enough good things about silicone cups.
@secretsanta35018 жыл бұрын
can you still go to the toilet outside of home??? or is it like, wait the whole day till you get home remove it and pee. i feel like the blood would fall out everywhere once you take it out....
@Elistarielle8 жыл бұрын
Pee and your period don't come out of the same hole. You can pee with a cup in just like you can pee with a tampon in.
@voodoopunchie55198 жыл бұрын
You can go to the bathroom (both kinds) with the cup in, though if you're having a bowel movement and your cup doesn't fit properly it may move when you bear down. You get used to how it feels when you need to empty it; for me it's sort of like a... squishy kind of feeling or like little bubbles, I don't really know how to explain it, but it's similar to the way a tampon feels when it's ready to be changed. When you empty the cup, you remove it while sitting on the toilet. It does sort of take a bit of practice maybe to get it out without spilling any blood, but even if you do spill you'll just spill into the toilet. The Diva Cup manufacturers recommend wiping away any blood with tissue and reinserting, but I really prefer to rinse it out whenever possible, however if I'm out shopping or someplace public where it isn't really comfortable or possible, I will use water from my drinking bottle or just wipe it with tissue and reinsert. I do bleed very heavily, but even still I tend to not have to empty it that often outside of work or home because even on a very heavy day you can still get several hours of wear compared to having to change tampons every hour or more frequently.

I use both a menstrual cup an cloth pads, and I will NEVER go back to disposable again. Menstrual cups can be left in for up to 8 HOURS. I repeat, if you have an average or low flow you can forget about them for 8 HOURS. There is no risk of toxic shock with menstrual cups and as long as you practice good cup hygiene (which is very easy) the risk of other infections is lower too. Also, using cloth pads is NOT as bad as you think it is, it's no worse than washing a pair of panties after you've leaked with a tampon and we've all done that.

I got mine when I was 11 and I had always wanted to use tampons bc the idea of wearing a diaper doesn’t appeal to me. The second time I had my period I decided to use the first tampon I found but without realizing the sizes and wore a super. It hurt like hell but to this day I prefer them over pads. I do intense volleyball and wearing a pad I fell really self conscious so i wear a tampon. It’s honestly not as bad as people think they are. It’s so much easier and comfortable.
