This man is one of few , who put some brain in game. For all people who are asking is one set is enough for muscle growth - yes it is. especially in complex exercise like deadlifts squat , military press and so on. sometimes we just overtrain our body and put big stres on CNS and we don't have enough rest before we hit the gym again. this approach is excellent size and strength builder ... regards from Belgrade.

this is all down to mike Mentzer, once you work the muscle hard to failure in one set there is no need to do another working set as you have already worked the muscle. any more sets after the all out one set leads to over training and ultimately no growth.
@lucyfang20456 жыл бұрын
Dorian Yates is one of the few bodybuilders who can push to the limit in that one working set. The majority of people could not push to absolute failure like Dorian, that is why they need multiple sets.

My Hat is Off to You, Mr. Yates!! I actually went to failure on my quads extension according to your instructions on weight training and in 2 or 3 days I can feel the power come back in great definition and isolation of each quad. I later tried this with hammer curls on the preacher bench, alternating to Brazilian grip on same at the extremity of resistance. The difference is beginning to reach the threshold of sensation for me. I'm 8 months into year 4 and the metamorphosis is slowly beginning to show, even though my work out numbers logs have showed somewhat linear increases through the period. Yet I also employ some mind over matter methods.

I enjoy the seated wide grip cable row sets with a small variation. It is an excellent exercise to develop a strong upper and lower back and (imho) also the abdomen, while working the anterior deltoids and the biceps. Good all around upper body work. When I lower the weights I also extend my shoulders all the way forward before beginning the rearward motion from the skapular muscles (rhomboids, trapezius, teres muscles, etc.) This involves everything from the thoracic dorsal spines all the way around to the arms down the knuckles. The mind body connection traces the lines of pull and action that make this exercise one of the (I think) most important and useful development methods around. I highly recommend Mr. Yates' school.

Dorian is the master of the pros. He's one of the few that concentrates on the importance of recovery and especially after the back workout.(You notice the dead-lift here removes the legs in order not to compromise the leg recovery)You see a lot of modern trainers advising (push,pull,leg,off) This is probably okay if you are in your 20s and on the bits and bobs but way to much for a big proportion of lifters. In addition doing chest, shoulders and tris together is insane as fatigue will compromise at least one of those muscle groups. Dorian was the last beacon of sanity in the professional body building champions before it gots ridiculous as we see today.

Not exactly Dorian's classic back regimen. Anyone who's seen the original Blood & Guts knows he used prodominantly unilateral, plate loaded seated rowing machines for isolation (Hammer Strength but almost all gyms have variations) which could have replaced the wide cable row and dumbbell row. He normally included rear delts on his back days but didn't here and shrugs were done on shoulder days but it's not included in this series. Also he practically made the bent over barbell row famous but didn't use it in this video....wonder why he skipped these.

I agree to an extent. I think no bodybuilder or average joe that hits the gym should ever have a standard program because your body will adapt to it. This would be cool to try to change it up for a while. I seriously doubt Dorian did this plan his entire career. This is just something he figured out his body responded well to and used as a staple until his training would stagnate then he would use something else for a little while and come back to it.
