I'm 71 years old and and tried Keto 5 years ago and got sick. I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 years ago. So, I've been doing a low carb lifestyle for 3 years. I'm 5 feet tall and weighed 212 lbs. I am now 165 and have been over 2 years and I am not on medication for diabetes. I control it with diet. So I had to make this lifestyle change. I'd still like to lose 10 more pounds but I am not concerned with any number. As long as I maintain this weight and keep my glucose numbers in check, I'm happy. Thanks for this video.

Congratulations! Keto also did not work for me, but I eat a much more balanced diet now... low carb, high protein, fiber and omega3 at every meal. I also recently started going grain free and eating my carbs through sweet potatoes, peas, beans, lentils, etc. and I've lost almost 60 lbs since September. I'm also reversing fatty liver disease and diabetes. My A1C was a 9.0. It's now a 6.0! 👏

I needed this. I’ve been doing Weight Watchers since February 2022 & I’ve lost 130 pounds with more to go. I lost 96 pounds the first year and since this February I’ve lost 34 pounds. Over the past 2 months my weight has been bouncing all over the place between 3 pounds. My doctor doesn’t seemed concerned. I have that diet mentality. I’m reaching a point were I’m afraid to eat anything good because I’m terrified of gaining since I’ve worked so hard to lose 130 pounds. I weigh every day. Even though everyone says I’m looking good and I’m dropping clothes sizes, that stupid scale rules. If the scale is not dropping I feel like a failure.

Go to fasting. I lost a lot more weight fasting than I did with WW, plus I could eat what I wanted. I usually fast a minimum of 18 hours.
@sbean298710 ай бұрын
Wow!!! This is seriously an accomplishment!!! As long as your clothes are fitting better, you might have to forget about the scale for now. I can’t lose 5lbs! I used to be able to lose with ww, but I can’t lose to save my life. But! I feel amazing! Keep up the great work!!!

The latest study’s on fasting is, you lose a lot of muscle, a lot of the top influencers are abandoning fasting for this reason....
@DoogieDoggie10 ай бұрын
My doctor highly recommends fasting. I have been able to drop medication for high blood pressure and my blood work was excellent for someone my age. You do have to eat right when fasting or you can lose muscle mass.
@DoogieDoggie10 ай бұрын
If you are losing muscle mass from fasting, that means you are NOT eating enough protein. Protein is very important when fasting.

I am a keto lifestyle person and it has been sustainable for me for the last 2 years. I always had a goal of around 150lbs and I have been maintaining a weight of ~145lbs. I weighed about 165 in high school. I am 5’10” and feel great at this weight 😊

I totally agree. Scale hopping is dangerous. If you follow your program, the weight will come off. I do not weigh. It only gets done when I have a doctors appointment.

I needed this! We are definitely twins... I was (healthy) keto for 4 years. Went from size 14 to size 2. I was a bit obsessive. We do a lot of cycling trips, where I would binge, and the holidays as well. Then I would follow it with a 24-26 hour fast then keto again. Found it was a good way to control my weight. But, it was obsessive. Here I am again, end of summer and 15 lbs up. I want balance! I’ve been reading a lot about high protein, I am now eating high protein, low carb and moderate healthy fats, tweaking as I go.
@dora936810 ай бұрын
I gained like 130 lbs during COVID. I was already at 275lbs so that put me at about 400 lbs. At least that is what I weighed the first time I weighed myself in years. I just kept eating unhealthy. Ordering Door Dash all the time and eating too much ice cream. It was horrible! So I started taking Victoza to assist with eating all the time, because it causes you to not have an appetite. I lost 15 lbs then it stopped working. 😮 So I started eating healthier... More veggies and protein + fiber, and that helped a little but the scale wasn't really moving. I than started seeing videos of fasting on my KZbin feed and started watching them and began fasting 16-8 every other day. It's helping. So far I've lost 20 lbs in total. It's not much but it's a start, and I feel so much better with more energy. I stopped weighing myself every week and just weigh myself whenever I feel like it. Once a month or so. I've been trying to eat at least 100 plus grams of protein a day. It's a challenge, but I do it most days. Weight loss takes time so I know this is going to be a long journey, but I have to stick with it. Yes, of course, sometimes I eat things I shouldn't, but not like I use to. I use to binge, but not really anymore, or at least I try not to. I love your channel and all the good advice and recipes you share with us. Keep up the good work ❤

This video is so important. I’m 72 now and my life was full of yo-yo dieting until last year when I had a TIA and wound up in the hospital. I was almost 200 pounds and 5’3”. I was prediabetic and my cholesterol was through the roof. That scared me so I started my journey to get healthy. So now I am no longer prediabetic, lost almost 40 pounds, and my cholesterol is now within normal range. I am now hovering at about 160 which I kept thinking I should be 140 because of those dang charts. Your video helped me to realize that if I just continue to eat healthy low carb I should be good. Thank you!!!! I am now going to concentrate on the healthy, low carb/keto lifestyle that I have adopted and use your other pointers to help maintain.

I recently found your vids! I've been doing 3 day water fasts and eating healthy since Jan. I lost 15 lbs in Jan. Feb I didn't go up or down. Valentine's and hubby's bday so write off. March I decided to do water fasts again. Like you said just tired and desperate to get it off and keep it off for good. I'm now on day 5 of water fast. I feel fine. I cook supper for hubby and make his lunches. Plus I'm baking some of your yummy no cal low cal desserts for him and he's love'n it. I'm terrified of carbs now. I'm using your videos to help me and hubby eat better. Fingers crossed I can keep it off. Hey. How tall are you!? You said you were close to 200. I'm at 205 now down from 231. I want to be 160. That's the high end of what doctors say I should be for 5 foot 9 inch.

I'm better off not starting the ice cream or the candy or chips. I have no control when I eat those things. I've lost 25 lbs on low carb, and it's taken me 5 months. It's discouraging that it takes so long, but it's taken me 47 yrs to put it on, so I shouldn't expect it to come off overnight! So many Drs are under educated when it comes to weight loss. Many of them are suggesting 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day--they have no idea!! Even nutritionists don't really give good advice.

Hello Beautiful Lady~ I have been enjoying your videos for several months now. I started a keto-lifestyle in March of this year because my a1c was higher than I wanted while eating "carefully". I discussed trying a keto diet with my PCP and she agreed this might work for me. It did! Searching for recipes & information about the keto-lifestyle brought me to your channel. It really wasn't easy changing my diet in the beginning. I had to replace so many pantry items & give away food stored in my freezer. Learning to order low carb when dining in restaurants was intimidating. I'm happy to say that I have succeeded in lowering my a1c & reduced my required meds. I'm constantly converting recipes to keto-friendly versions. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get them perfected, but I don't give up. I'm glad there are more prepared keto-friendly food items & baking mixes to reduce the burden of converting recipes to clean low carb versions, but they can be pricey. Your recipes are so helpful! For me, aside from lowering my a1c & decreasing required meds, I finally managed to bake a KETO RUSTIC SOURDOUGH BOULÉ that tastes & looks like a bakery purchased carb-loaded Rustic Boulé. Even a carb-loaded boulé isn't easy! A GOOD CRUSTY LOW CARB bread was a necessity for me. Your many recipes have helped with this lifestyle change. I appreciate your sharing your experiences & lessons learned. You have been & continue to be an excellent educator. Thanks for all you do!

I'm diabetic and I've cut out almost all white flour and sugar (as much as possible anyway). Also drink 2 cups of coffee in the am with regular half and half. Also I drink water and a whole lemon each time I fill my 24 oz bottle. I don't buy bread anymore. I lost 30 lbs since June. And because I have diabetes, I am more mindful about what I eat/drink because my goal is to get off my pills. I will always be diabetic so I know I can't go back to regularly eating the things I shouldn't and in the large amounts I used to. Yes it is a lifestyle not a diet. I do have cheat days but I learned to discipline myself and not over do it. I consider it my "treat" or reward for doing good each day. I'm still learning though and always trying to do better.

Thank you, Myra. At 62, I’ve yo-yo’d more times than I can count. Each time I’ve lost, I’ve lost my weight differently (this is normal). This time around, 40 lb down so far…my clothes fit better, I feel better, but I don’t look like I did when I’ve lost weight before. It’s okay though! Previously if no visible change was noted (by myself, or also because no one said anything about how much I’ve lost), I’d have given up. This time around, I’m not depriving myself. I’m not starving myself. I’m enjoying the journey. I donate platelets at the Red Cross…they have snacks and drinks afterwards. I bring my own protein-filled snacks. The one time I didn’t, I took the lowest carb item they had…a bag of chips. I didn’t worry over it. My mentality has changed. And my options for food have changed as never before have there been more keto-friendly recipes, ingredients, and channels like yours on KZbin. Anyone reading this…stay strong! Remember: we eat to live, not live to eat.

I’ve always had a problem with binge-eating. It’s my mentality of needing to eat greens 24/7 to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight. It works with dropping excess weight for me, but it’s not a healthy lifestyle to be in, leading me to binge significantly on the weekends. I’m slowly being more lenient with myself to eat more whole foods and running during the week days to keep my unhealthy habits of binge eating weight off. But it is something definitely like you said to do a video about. I would definitely find it helpful. Thank you for all your support and advice💛💛

Pushed the high protein and 2000 calorie a day diet , it did nothing ....because of the hernia my physical activities are kind of limited, but i do takes walks...i finally dropped myself down to 1200 calories and started incorporating more good carbs into my diet, and thats how ive managed to get the 15 lbs off this spring, but i have a surgeon whose pushing for things to come off faster and a bariatric dr, who wants me at 1500 calories a day, and im really beginning to think that i do so poorly at this weight loss thing is because my metabolism has slowed down due partly to my age, and possibly the stress from it all...i wish i could turn back the clock and do it all over from the age of 15...but let me say this to all of your readers, please NEVER go under a 1000 calories a day...NEVER...i did this for 4 months in my teens, and i lost 40 lb, along with my hair, my nails go week and i became vitamin deficient...i learned a very valuable lesson there , but i was 15 in the 70's and weight loss and fitness then isnt what it is today...thank you for letting me vent! I always enjoy your input on your journey...continued success to you❤

I actually had gastric bypass surgery in 2009. I lost 100 bs. I kept it off for over 10 years. I have gained back 25 lbs. I am now being monitored more frequently by a physician assistant where I had the surgery per my request. I have been advised to eat a low carb diet and drink 64 ounces of water per day. My main reason for wanting more help is I am still pre-diabetic and I want to be healthy & I want to look good! My Physician Assistant want me to eventually get down to 1,000 calories a day but I don’t want to be deprived so much that I start binging. I hope to lose the 25 lbs I lost. Please no negative comments about weight loss surgery. My reason for having it was I had severe sleep apnea & high blood pressure. Weight loss surgery has helped me and I still can’t eat large meals. If you can lose the weight without having weight loss surgery and keep it off, more power to you!

I would love to hear more of your insight on diet and diet culture. I have had weight loss surgery in July and had to rethink everything about diet and the culture. Now I’m eating what makes me feel good. Sometimes I’ll eat a serving of candy or a bite of a cookie. But I am learning when my body says “hey this is not making us feel good” and that’s so brand new to me. This has been a great video to listen to and just feel refreshed.

Thank you for this! It’s common sense but people get desperate and punish themselves by starving! We have to learn what makes us comfortable as well as healthy and happy.

I am working to raise my metabolism. When I was tested in the spring, my Resting metabolic rate was 1,070 calories. Considering that my activity level added 200-500 calories per day, my max calories per day is only 1,200-1,500. Less if I need to lose weight, which isn’t as important now as it was last spring. I plan on having my RMR tested again in the spring of 2024. Hopefully, the changes I’ve made in my life will have increased muscle mass, resulting in an increase in my resting metabolic rate and kept off the weight I lost in the past year. (about 40 lbs) Things certainly aren’t perfect, but they’re a whole lot better than a year ago, right after a year of misery, starting with Covid that kept me depressed and weak for almost 8 months, then with cancer surgery and radiation treatments. If there’s anything to motivate me to keep to the new path I have created for myself, those 2 experiences are it!

Isn't incorporating a "cheat meal" a part of diet mentality? Versus healthy living?

Great recap!!! I so enjoy your videos and congrats on your weight loss and maintaining it. I have learned a lot from what your videos!! It really does not matter what health journey you are on, these points you make are so true to all of us. I too believe it is a mindset.

Yes, lowering calories can help for short spurts, but it's not a long-term solution, because as you said here, our bodies will slow down our metabolism in order to maintain our health on the new lower calorie amount. If you want to restrict calories without destroying your metabolism, try healthy meals all day and intermittent fasting at night. Again, not meant as a long term solution, but it will help to keep your metabolism going, rather than slowing your metabolism the way a low calorie, hyper restrictive diet can.

Please address binge eating. I have had this disorder for long time and what prevents me from losing weight
@jillcollins855510 ай бұрын
Myra! Lovve these vids! I’m interested in hearing more from you about binging. I lost 78 lbs 4 yrs ago, kept it off for a couple yrs but a very stressful time triggered my emotional eating… my biggest fear was maintaining my weight. I’ve gained 50 lbs back and from an immediate gratification standpoint I wanted to get back on that program but from a long term aspect, i want to live my life and create a healthy lifestyle with weight loss being a byproduct. I tried intermittent fasting previously but it triggered binging but now it’s different bc I don’t have a diet minded, I have a healthy lifestyle mindset. I’m nit calling it intermittent fasting, I just push brkfst to 11: and have a cup of low sodium bone broth and a whole food edible vitamin. Then a salad for lunch. I don’t eat anything after 8:pm. It’s working out really well. I love meal prepping and making cottage cheese ice cream! I’m also into Law of Assumption and living as the person i want to be in the current moment. I’m down maybe 15 lbs but i hardly weigh myself. It’s how i feel and how my clothes fit.
