I watched this video last night and already forgot what the 5 habits were so I'm back to rewatch and make a note for myself. 1. Enjoy the journey - we spend more time climbing up during the hike than we do enjoying the view at the top so why not enjoy the entire journey. 2. Mind your response in situations, it is the only thing you can control to influence the outcome of things. - perception determines how we feel 3. Swap out words with negative meanings to words with positive meanings. The words you use can influence how you feel. We tend to vent about our frustrations and use negative words in the process. Then when we are alone, those same word choices are made, the effect can compound. Get in the habit of expressing things with more positivity, gratitude, hope, excitement, etc. 4. Comparison is the thief of joy. Comparison seems to be a natural human response so don't feel bad about doing it, just be mindful of it. Remember that we know 100% of our own lives, all the good and all the bad but we only see what other people want us to see about theirs. 5. Tend to your emotional wounds as much as you would a physical wound.

When my mother was alive, I would stay with her two evenings a week while the sibling who lived with her worked. If a friend asked if I'd like to go out on one of those evenings, my response would be, "I have to watch my mother." I am beyond grateful that I finally caught on to how I was phrasing my answer, and changed it to, "I get to spend time with my mom that evening." I loved her, and I was talking as though spending time with her was a burden. She died a couple of years ago and I long for the times when I was able to spend time with her.

Idk... that mindset seems kinda toxic to me. Sure, not everything is black or white. But things like war, hunger, rape, etc.? These are entirely bad things, no matter how much you try to think otherwise. Is that really what you want to say to people who experienced such things, to simply change their perspective on things? That's BS.
@GS-lq2is
@GS-lq2is 2 жыл бұрын
@@KateViko Thanks, I’m not at the moment. My issue is with the concept-for example, do you think that Jews in concentration camps should just have changed their perspective and then everything would have been fine? I’m not trying to argue with you per se, but I believe this is a pernicious attitude in western culture. I admit I haven’t read it yet, but Barbara Ehrenrich’s book, Bright-Sided, apparently explores this subject quite a bit.

Another helpful thought pattern shift is saying "I could" or "I get to" instead of "I have to." I think it was mentioned in another PUL video. "I have to do laundry" vs. "I could do laundry" and "I have to exercise" vs. "I get to exercise" have made a world of a difference in my life.

Hello, I just wanted to add to this great advice. I replace it with, “I can”. Little tip from my therapist; saying, “I can” instead of “have to”, “need to”, “should” helps empower you. My mother is abusive and made me feel incapable of things so I struggle with that. Saying I can do something makes me sound capable of doing it and more likely to do things and feel good about it. It also helps with low motivation. The more you do the more capable you feel and therefore the more capable and confident you become. Thank you for sharing your tips!

I’m not happy with Better Help at all. The therapist didn’t write anything down, she forgot important things I said during previous sessions, she seemed to confuse my case with someone else’s sometimes and she hardly asked open questions. She also never confronterend me with what I did or with the way I handled things. She blamed everything on others in my life. And she used a lot of theories that didn’t seem to match with my story I believe. And she was very repetitive. Now, 3 years later, I’m a psychologist myself and now I’m even more disappointed about it than I was back then.

The mindest is seriously so important, I personally started studying last summer and I never really liked the people in my semester. I just don‘t like the vibe and didn‘t make a lot of friends here. It really lowered my motivation o study and attempt the classes. Yesterday I started looking around and began to think about a positive thing for each person in the room (like „I like her outfit“ or „he actually seems very chill and relaxed“ stuff like that) and it just makes a huge difference and I suddenly don‘t feel that lonely anymore when sitting in a class

Thank you Sadia for this video. You have no idea how much I needed this right now. I've been struggling with anxiety and very negative thoughts about myself in the past weeks because of an upcoming exam that is very important to me. This video made me realize how important our mindset is whenever we face challenges. I'm not sure how you do it, but you always seem to upload such videos when I need them the most. Thank you for this important message. I'm beyond grateful for your hard work. Much love❤❤❤

All of your videos are insightful but this one was really eye opener. I'm goal-oriented and impatient, so I become very frustrated when i don't see results. Last year, I felt so unaccomplished with my life and sometimes I feel like a loser but I need to shift my mindset and enjoy the process and not just the result.

My takeaways from this video: - learn to enjoy the process rather than focusing only on achieving the goal. Ask yourself: how can I enjoy how long this is going to take? - change your perspective to change your response to an event. You may not have control over the event, but you have full control over your mind and your response. - use positive words in your daily life - take care of your mental/emotional health regularly as you would your physical health

Thanks for that. I've been using your first group of words way too much. Thanks for making me aware. It's been hard to use the second group of words lately, and I must step back and try harder. turn negative into positive thoughts.

Hello PUL team :) I am a big fan, long-time follower and I love your recipe videos! Please don't view this comment as hate. I appreciate your knowledge on diet & I am learning a lot about this because of you. Thank you for that:) I am studying and doing research in Psychology field and although I am not a psychotherapist, and I'm not planning to be, I can gently point out an important factor that people forget when giving advices on the subject of mental health and happiness. What is extremely important that unfortunately you didn't include in this video, is a disclaimer that you are not a specialist and that those advices won't help people that struggle with mental health. Just like with medicine (or dietetics in your case), disclaimers should be a necessity when giving psychology related advices. I would like to also point out that those "simple tricks" to how to be 'happier' can be very damaging. Toxic positivity is already all over social media and it doesn't help anyone. If you notice that you use negative words to describe your life / yourself a lot, go to the specialist and talk about it. Try to understand the reason behind it. Sure maybe it's just a mindset that you can work on with a CBT guide. But there's a big chance there are things you need to cope with, and naming your struggles in negative way might be just that. Pushing your emotions down & making yourself happy by using the right words won't make your life happy. It's just another toxic coping mechanism that can have unhealthy implications. Love that you mentioned dr Guy Winch, more people should read his work :) Hope this comment finds you well :)

Thank you for the constructive feedback, Julia, it helps so much in supporting the work we do, and you're absolutely right. I've added a disclaimer to the description box for now, and I'll be more mindful of this as well in future videos. Thank you for taking the time to share this in such a kind way :)

I’ve come across 2 creators lately who are learning to substitute the words ‘get to’ for the words ‘have to’; ‘I get to support X tomorrow morning.’ instead of ‘I have to support X tomorrow morning.’ 💖😊💖

Mental health is so very important and as you have mentioned, is often one of the most overlooked areas of our lives, and one which is often just brushed off as not a big deal. Another of my least favorite things is the way that one is often confronted by comparisons: that this person or that is in so much of a worse position than oneself, and to look at how they’re coping. None of these things are particularly helpful irrespective of the intent of the person with whom one is conversing. To me each of us is an individual and thus our responses are born out of that individuality and the circumstances and environment in and with which each of us has lived. The thing to learn, which can be difficult, is to accept, feel comfortable with, and most importantly, love ourselves. We need to surround ourselves with people - friends and loved ones - who understand this, and listen only to those voices. Build deep and enduring trust-based relationships with them and allow them to speak into one’s life. And when they do, listen, absorb, reflect, and respond, bearing the aforementioned relationships in mind. Ask oneself whether or not what one is listening to is intended for good purposes, to build us up and give us hope, or not. Listen to the ones you trust and love, ignore the rest. Thanks Sadia and Robin for sharing this vital message 🙏🏻👍😃

I really appreciated hearing these tips Sadia! I would say The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday has been one of the most influential books that has helped shift my mindset and create a more positive headspace.The book was designed so you read 1 page/ day over the course of the year. I really didn’t realise how much my mindset had shifted until I got to the end of the year, yet I’d been living a much moreover peace life, internally. Thank you for sharing ♥️
