This is the only channel really talking about being reserve (downsides etc.). Dudes like the one rhyming with Mwayne Sartin always portray the career as something continuously exciting and positive, when the reality is much different. Love that about your channel

Another great vid. I wanted to be an airline pilot when I was a kid, gave it up for the engineering side instead. Now I live my old dream vicariously through your vids and msfs2020. Thank you!

Sorry for extreme delay. I hate the comment system on KZbin. It’s late but you can still easily retire a senior RJ Captain or Junior mainline First Officer maybe Junior Captain

2:02 If Kirkland doesn’t provide hotel or transportation, than how do commuter pilots exist/ work for Kirkland. Is it because they have different contracts/rules for in base versus commuter pilots?
@geekontheflightdeck6 ай бұрын
They bid a commutable schedule or buy hotels or a crashpad. No major airlines provide hotels or transportation in the United States. Some regionals do or did.

I just want to call out how weirdly insightful your videos are. There is so much aviation content on KZbin including 747 captains that I watch and this is one of only two channels that I feel have given me a real glimpse into behind the scenes at an airline. The mechanics of being a captain. As a PPL(H) who’s thought about doing an ATPL or just finishing my fixed wing PPL and is currently a software guy full time hesitant to move away from my high salary for something more fun I have really enjoyed the detail and really made me reconsider aviation as a career. I grew up dreaming of flying, got a PPL(H) in 2009 and backed out as pay was unlivable It’s funny that the two most insightful behind the scenes airline KZbin channels are both AA. I have BA equivalent of Concierge Key but I think I’ll give AA a try on my next LHR-JFK

Really enjoying your videos Darren, thank you. Looks like Kirkland Club Terminal A DFW if I am not mistaken ? So you have wanted to go anywhere but London for a while yet you mentioned what a great experience it was with Immigration at LHR, short walk and purser doing all the paperwork etc and bus to hotel. How did that compare with Madrid?? Happy Father’s Day.

Awesome! I assume flying passengers and landing is the most fun combo., but How would you rank being FO on a ferry flight vs relief on a passenger flight out of curiosity?
@geekontheflightdeck6 ай бұрын
There’s much less interaction with passengers on a 777 vs Airbus do actually not that different.

The downline impact swapping airplanes is something that is evaluated. Sending this flight on time or less delayed may be the least impactful than just eating this one. What do you think happens to the flight that got switched if that's what they decide to do?

Do the hotels guarantee early check-in? Have you ever gotten to a hotel and your room is "not ready?" Love the videos! Keep up the great work! 🎉
@geekontheflightdeck6 ай бұрын
Great question. It's all in the contract between hotel and airline. We arrive when we arrive and if it's before official check in time we still get our keys. We also check out whenever the flight leaves. Every now and then rooms aren't ready but I've never waited more than 20 minutes. I've heard stories in the distant past that crews overseas waited 90 minutes for their rooms.
