My 94 year old mother has stage 5 Alzheimers and lives on her own. She has carers twice a day and has no interests, hobbies, pastimes or desire to do anything or go anywhere. Mother sits and reads newspapers all day, getting up occasionally to look for something, write a shopping list or rearrange a drawer. Her trigger for loud aggressive behaviour is the word " Care Home" which she refuses to consider. Mother is obsessed with lights on her heating boiler and rings my sister constantly asking for to be turned off. Mother rings her daily, asking for a car outside her home to be removed because she thinks it is hers. She is also obsessed with her gas fire, asking for the flame to be lowered because she thinks it is costing her money. Mother is deaf, incontinent and in total denial of her many issues which cause concern for her health and safety. She was recently assessed by Adult Social Care Services and her responses to being able to look after herself and her home were quite ludicrous. The only way we can get mother into Residential Care is with a Court Order and this is just the start of our problems.

I need so much help with my husband. He is 83 and I am, chronologically, only two years younger, but in lifestyle and activity I am at least 10 years younger. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's by a neurologist about 6 months ago, but all meds tried had negative effects. I do not feel that the specialist was of any help. We live in a rather remote location so I am his sole caretaker, except that my daughter helps as much as she can.
