I know that here in the UK, it has been found that the "organic" labelled food is very often found to contain the same pesticides as non organic. Life is a mine field these days, and those of us who choose to live healthily are made to pay more. It really points to being punished for trying to stand apart from their programs of population control. I can only urge all to grow your own. Great video Derek. Thank you doing this! I just wanted to add that glyphosate isn’t used in all countries and so isn’t a worry for everyone. I believe its use is banned/limited in some EU countries and Mexico has a plan to phase it out in the next couple of years. Also - a great way to buy organic produce and support local farmers is to check out CSA options in your area. Can work out a little cheaper than buying from grocery stores, plus it's much fresher. I've read that glyphosate may be the reason why so many people are celiac or gluten intolerant too. It's not the gluten that is harming people - it's the glyphosate. It's such evil stuff. Love these educational videos Derek. Would love to see more!

I have started switching to organic options after hauling non organic garbanzo beans out of the field to the processers. The plants are sprayed with Roundup as mentioned in the video and it's said to kill everything but the bean. I have trouble believing that because the plants are so brown and shriveled up, anything that can live through that has to be far from its natural state.

i had a question about this, i’ve seen some videos on tiktok about some farmers saying that the pesticides are fine and people are dumb for buying organic etc etc. since you’ve worked in the fields, why would you think some farmers are opposed to organic? i’ve done my fair share of research and i’d rather still buy organic since it’s better for the soil, better for the people since i would hate to be smelling and being around pesticides all day, and i know organic carries more phytonutrients than conventional.
@lizzzarduh2 жыл бұрын
@@Mylkygoddess but that’s on tik tok…..not very reliable but I think farmers would think that because they feel like they need to be prideful of using pesticides because it’s old school or maybe they can’t afford to go organic or they just deny the effects straight up or they are sponsored by round up/mansantos
@evosportychop83322 жыл бұрын
If I had to guess farming organically would be much more complex, costly, and time consuming. We are harvesting wheat right now. Truck after truck we haul to the elevators where it is sold as a commodity. Easy for the farmers because that's the traditional system. Subsidies could also be a concern. These are all just guesses as I am talking above my pay grade.

There is a lotttttttttttt to be said for companion planting to protect your food & the bottom line is this, time to go to the "old ways", "Grow Your Own Food", know what your eating & grow what you eat. Get involved in community gardens for food, network. The world is already hinting to not depend anymore on stores, nope, depend on yourself, we have become too lazy. Grow sprouts on your window sill use tower pots "normally used for strawberries" but stick lettuce in there, put up green houses & use filtered rain water.... Break the addiction to store bought food, you can grow on a patio or balcony in a block of flats, get permission to grow on the rooves of buildings because dear hearts, life as we knew it is going going so before it's gone, set up growing your own food. Love your channel btw, i don't often comment but this is important & rally farmers to stop destroying top soil. ≧◠‿◠≦✌Peace

@timleahezra2 жыл бұрын
The overspray issue is kinda overstated... to get approved as organic, you need to be a certain distance from sprayed crops. It is 8 meters to 3 km depending on the crop and conditions (for Canada.) I'm sure there could still be some contamination from, groundwater or overspray on an extra windy day, but it's gotta be a lot better than direct spray.

Hi Derek! Thank you so much for doing this video - I'm right there with you!! I've been an organic proponent for 30 years. My family thinks I'm a little crazy, but I feel this is extremely important. I have a small, organic vegetable, herb, and flower garden. Glyphosate is so bad. I know someone who sprayed their yard with Roundup. Two days later, he was mowing his yard, in sandals, and he didn't realize he had a tiny cut on his toe. He ended up in the emergency room because his toe started swelling up really badly and he was feeling really sick. When the hospital was trying to figure out what might be wrong, they initially felt he had been poisoned with something (which he really was), this was the only thing he could remember that might be relevant. And, it was! Thank you for all you do. Love your channel, and thank you, again, for this important video.

Also worth considering which foods are cleaned more easily, removing more pesticides. Like an apple is easier to remove pest. residue compared to kale regardless of amount applied during growth. And I don’t see it as bashing farmers but more showing care for them too since they actually get higher doses of these chemicals than any consumers would. Cost does factor into choosing which foods to buy organic so it’s nice you talk about which ones can have the biggest impact to our health. Although even if the organic produce is prohibitively expensive it’s probably still better to get the regular kale over skipping entirely! Great video dude! Good grief... 😱I eat ALL of those top 5 pretty much everyday. Thankfully 1 out of 5 I buy organic, but now I'm going to do better to get the others organically! I do have a hydroponic indoor garden that I grow most of our greens out of from organic seeds, thankfully! 🌱😊 Thank you for sharing this great info!

I found the documentary Kiss the Ground very interesting on this subject. We are ruining our soil and if we turned that around we could have a chance to get the planet back in balance again.

We have been eating as much organic as possible for 15 years now. Some stuff though is near impossible to get. And eating out? Only when we go to the seaside to our fave vegan restaurants can we find organic on the menu! Thanks for putting it out there Derek! I don’t see others explaining the “why” as much as just saying it’s better for you. I use soapy water to spray my homegrown veggies when I need to. It is so easy for gardeners. Thanks for the info and please make more videos like this because we all need to know educational stuff!! 😁👍🏻👍🏻

Fantastic video. Throwing out the non organic oats and headed out to replace with organic. Thanks for your work/time on this video.

I don’t know about throwing out your non organic food. Food wastage might be even a bigger problem in this day and age. I would encourage you to eat the rest of your non organic oats, it’s not like eating one more package of that food that you have probably been eating for years is gonna affect your health drastically.

Great video. It's hard to eat organic. People are sick because of all these sprays and chemicals . I wish people would push for change keep bringing it up to other people to make better choices. Thanks

I just gotta say I’ve never seen not organic tofu. I wouldn’t even know where to get it around me lol. Anyway - I remember hearing that Organic sometimes allows a whole slew of other “organic” pesticides that haven’t been tested long term. That’s not to say organic isn’t good as a category but it’s certainly more complicated than “good/bad”.

Yep. USDA Organic guidelines for crops say: "Crop Standards The organic crop production standards require that: Land must have had no prohibited substances applied to it for at least 3 years before the harvest of an organic crop. Soil fertility and crop nutrients will be managed through tillage and cultivation practices, crop rotations, and cover crops, supplemented with animal and crop waste materials and allowed synthetic materials. Crop pests, weeds, and diseases will be controlled primarily through management practices including physical, mechanical, and biological controls. When these practices are not sufficient, a biological, botanical, or synthetic substance approved for use on the National List may be used. Operations must use organic seeds and other planting stock when available. The use of genetic engineering, ionizing radiation and sewage sludge is prohibited." So basically, they have to TRY to not use pesticides but if it's not working then they can use it anyway. I think this issue can be solved with different types of farming. Like vertical farming where pests can be more easily controlled in a greenhouse. Or have small little community farms where one or two people can tend to the plants.

Yeah, most tofu I've seen has been organic, probably because consumers have demanded that soy and soy products sold for direct human consumption (as opposed to being sold for livestock feed, as most soy is).

just want to share something I wish I started years ago but it's to buy at least 1 thing in bulk every month. In ~6 months I've amassed a pretty well so far by 'splashing out' on say 5kg grains here, a couple kg of nuts/beans there etc.. but the prices per portion are always pretty impressive, even with organic foods. I'd highly recommend at trying it out, I've been telling all my family and friends to try it. and let's be real, the jars-full-of-colourful-food aesthetic is great👌

Oh nice ! How do you store the nuts ? I’ve heard people freeze them but you must need a big freezer ?
@christophergenther35172 жыл бұрын
@@kelyrin in a jar on the bench, I've never heard of them being frozen tbh I've heard of people keeping then in the fridge in like Texas or w/e but no need to where I live

For sure. 30lb bags of beans, lentils, oats, rice.. they go so far and for so cheap.

Foods like celery and leafy greens absorb pesticides. Round up has been found in non organic oats. I always buy organic.
