Yes, agreed, these were fantastic overall. However, regarding the shoes- some of us can’t wear heels (even your “comfortable” wedges) if we’re going to be on our feet for any length of time. And the backless loafers are a no-go for me as well as every one I’ve tried pinches my toes, leaves blisters and slips off. I’d really like to see some TRULY comfortable FLAT sandals in the looks. One word - Birkenstocks. Most comfortable sandal ever, virtually indestructible, doesn't loose shape, and they are a huge trend right now, and will probably always be. Extra weight makes me dislike just about anything I’m wearing!!! It’s hard to keep the weight off ( need to lose some now) but I’m much happier w less on me and I feel so much better. There’s a spring in my step! Many more choices in my closet when my weight is down. It’s worth it to me to keep working on my eating habits to keep weight off. Plus nothing ages a woman more than extra weight. Some things are unchangeable. But there are a few things we can fix: posture, smile, weight, attitudes etc. Keep trying ladies, on the weight thing. I really enjoyed this.I see what looks like some Chicos items the leopard print tank and ruana coverup. I used to love Chicos when I was a size 16 petite because they specialize in clothes that are looser around the hips and mid section where most women over 40, put on weight while many standard brands like Free People etc assume tiny hips and legs. I am a size 10 petite now so buy clothes elsewhere. AS I was losing the weight 5 yrs ago I did a crash course on the internet of opinions on dressing. Heres what I learned that worked for me: 1. MAJOR RULE dress for the shape you are NOW. 2. Define your best colors. Here are several systems to do that: a. SEason, not just Spring, Summer , etc but if you,are Spring are you,Warm Spring, then you wear warmer colors with a warm undertone , Cool Spring then cool undertone. Etc for all the seasons then cool, warm, and olive .THere are instructions to determine all.this free mostly on Pinterest, then there is the Kibbe system used originally to dress the movie stars in clothes that best suited THEIR shapes, well we have the same shapes. YOu can find discussions of which current actresses have these shapes and see photos of them dressed casually bec who goes around in Oscar gowns. This helps you pick styles that suit your height, weight, AND shape,use for inspiration. 3. Another coloring system uses your skin, eye, and hair color called your body colors and takes recommendations for those to a core neutral base wardrobe keeping the warm vs cool in mind also then accent colors 4. DRess for your lifestyle how you live your life casual, work, travel, lots of parties, etc. Dont buy what you wont wear no matter how much you like it. 5. Your base wardrobe in your basic colors is what you can wear for years spend your money for quality there first. THen add in the more colorful pieces , most women have too few quality basics in their best basic colors and far too many of the bright things that catch our eye when shopping. DOnt buy fast fashion, it goes out of style first. CLassics dont. THe Kibbe system can show you which shape classics are best for your body.Dont buy for momentary fashion the basic core of your wardrobe dont go extreme with those, your less expensive purchases can be more of the moment because they are fun. So for me I am 73 look early 60s have a size 10 petite X shape 38 30 39 5'4", I am a Kibbbe Romantic style. I am warm Spring with golden blonde long hair, tourquoise eyes, and warm light skin. I dress for MY life. WHat looks best on ME are long flowy skirts, form fitting not too low. tops with sleeves tucked into,the waist belted. Belts are my best friend. I also wear camisoles cut low, but not showing cleavage BUT ALWAYS covered by an open classic shirt tied at the waist rolled up sleeves to just. below the elbow or,top the cami with jackets when it's cool. I wear youthful leather, suede, or other high quality material short fitted never boxy, waisted jacket styles, this look is perfect for ME. I look youthful, feel great, this style shows off my Romantic Kibbe style body.I look womanly but in a covered up way. Almost no skin showing. THe emphasis is on my waist and face , the chest is covered modestly but very THERE, so are the hips but in a softly sexy way. My second go to style is Western with the flowy skirts or denim boots Western or regular and booties. Same tops I wear with the other looks, I wear my Stetson. I get alot of compliments from locals, they love the look, women and men.This is my go to Fall and Winter look, when weather is cooler here in the mountains. For others this is a costume look and I'd never wear it in New England or Florida where family live,but HERE it is perfect because being Texan, it feels like my skin and I looks so ME also, people with coffee fincas still ride their fabulous past fine high stepping horses into the Spanish colonial town where I live on Sundays. It's that kind of place. Abroad in tropical Latin Americe in the coffee growing mountains, lots of horses here in the country. I wear Western jackets in suede or leather not usually denim. I dont look out of place at all here. I have a few tradtional classic things to wear to New England and a few Florida clothes, those do look odd here but I wear them tomthenPacific beach here where its fine and thats it. I finally have my retirement life sorted out, with the best wardrobe for me. YOu can do the research free on Pinterest and if you are shut in now it's the perfect time to do it. Having been a college prof I took notes in a spiral notebook all along my research journey and built boards on these subjects you can see. Lots of my research on Pinterest under my name Sybil Francis. It was the most FUN research of my life and has really borne fruit in how I look and FEEL. Have fun, enjoy it, this wasnt available 20 yrs ago.

OH GOSH YES!! I’m a high school English teacher. Last year, a couple of my girls commented on how cool it was I had the “French tuck” or whatever it’s called. I had NO clue what it was. I had simply been lifting, bending, stretching, reaching, and my blouse had pulled a bit out of my jeans. It was the first time I heard of it and then I couldn’t help seeing it and began to see other women doing this on purpose! Even at our church!! It’s as annoying as the dumb shirts with the holes in the shoulder! The first time I saw that, I thought that oh that is so going to be a stupid trend!! Never did it and certainly didn’t do this dumb tuck on purpose. Much of what is done and shown here is to what my mother would call “affected”. She looks fabulous - if you’re going to be on The Tonight Show, but I see you at the store or church? Don’t. Just don’t.

I don't like it either, but overall I felt her tips were on point. I would simply style it with a shorter, more fitted A-line tunic style to cover my tummy as that is a problem area for me. I find A-line cut of shirt or blouse flows away from my pear shape body type (with tummy) and is more flattering than a box shape. I hate stuff hugging my hips and stomach, but don't want to wear a tent either!

Such great advice! "When you look good, you feel good!" And when you feel good (confident, relaxed, etc), you look good. I think cultivating your own style is an ongoing process you should start as young as possible; a lot of people at any age become invisible because they are not dressed nor acting as individuals.

I just have to say the khaki pants are frumpy because they hit almost mid calf!!! Those pants should be right above the ankle bone.

Cropped pants cut the legs off. So do those pants that stop at the ankle. I know everyone loves to show their shoes, but I feel so much slimmer when I have straight or flare leg pants that are long.

Being thin is a choice. You choose to not indulge in over eating. As we age it is not easy to stay thin, but unless we have a medical condition , it is possible with making a conscious decision to eat less. I had a weight problem for most of my life until I decided that being thin is more important to me than indulging myself with food. It is by no means easy.

I really love your channel, and I’m so happy that I discovered it! I’m a former fashion editor for a newspaper and found that women need and want beautiful and workable solutions to their problems. I would have women call me as they stood in their closet trying to figure out what to wear. Sometimes they just can’t see problems on their own. I believe that you just need to be honest with people and tell the truth, which you do in a way that’s encouraging and not offensive. I would suggest adding another category that I see ALL the time especially in spring-summer. Capris pants and t-shirt combinations with awful sandals. It’s become a uniform for women over a certain age. Again, thank you for your honesty on fashion and beauty, and life’s issues.

Thank you for all of the helpful information you provide. Even though some of us may be over 40, it does not mean that we do not want to look classy, sexy, youthful, and vibrant. Many of us are embracing our 40's and beginning a new phase of our lives with a stronger self-confidence and a better knowledge of ourselves. Also, dressing less "frumpy" and feeling good about how you look does boost your self- esteem. Please continue to post these helpful videos and especially the tips about elongating the petite body!

I've searched for decades. When something is fashionable and comfortable for a year or two, like round toed Mary Janes or slip ons, it then goes out of fashion and we are confronted with pointy toed high heels. The men who design shoes do NOT wear them, believe me! I quite liked those sandals she threw away. The replacement chunky wedges did not hold the foot in place and would be useless walking along a stony beach or down the wooded path behind your country estate.

Loved this video for older body type issues. Many are saying you are thinner than most of us. I am 5'8" 175 lbs, thick waist and tons (and tons) of cellulite! I'm pretty savvy in what works for my body but feel challenged now that I am aging. I found your videos very helpful. It really does work. My biggest challenge is shorts. I cannot wear any garment above my knees so shorts are out of the question. The length I need chops my body in thirds and looks weird. I wear mostly jeans, some pants, and a dress if I have too.

You can still look good - Check out some videos for older women because this woman is definitely trying to look very young for her age - You are ten years older than me and there are many clothes on the market that can make us look stylish - Stick with classic lines and solid colors and avoid oversized styles - The monochromatic look (all one color or shades of one color) will make you look taller and leaner - Black pants and a black top with a colored jacket looks good but black pants, a white top, and a colored jacket will cut us in half and make us look wider - Think vertical and avoid anything that draws a horizontal line across your body - Have fun and enjoy who you are and the fact that you are 85 and still want to look good.

Debbie ...-and welcome yourself to old-lady-land. The compliments you’re receiving are either from 1. Other old ladies 2. Younger people trying to be nice 3. Those with no sense of what really flatters and styles well on someone. No, really. I’m not trying to be mean, but those big bold tees just scream that you’ve crossed over into old-lady territory. I am truly sorry, if this offends but thought you might want to know what wearing one of those big bold tees ACTUALLY signals to those with ANY sense of style, whatsoever. If you don’t care about that and are happy dressing in those and are content with those aforementioned “compliments” then by all means, do what makes YOU happy.
@mikamamma4 жыл бұрын
My previous comment got sent by accident before finished. But yes, do whatever makes YOU happy because that’s REALLY what it SHOULD be about. I just gave you the insight of what “others” think when you wear those types of tees because Unfortunately, however, the reality is, most people don’t have the courage to just dress for themselves and what makes they, themselves, happy. Mostly all women dress for others. I figured you must be among those women in the latter category because you clicked on this video so I thought it helpful to offer you perspective. Again, my intent in no way is/was to offend. Truly sincere apologies, if I did so.🙏
