So many decisions go into the building (piecing) of a quilt but what about the quilting? Today we are focusing on EDGE to EDGE (E2E) quilting. While you need to think about all these things when it comes to custom quilting, today we are looking at the quilts in relation to those 'allover' designs.
In this video we will discuss the 5 most important things I want you to think about when choosing a design to quilt on your quilt.

Thanks for the interesting look at quilting decisions! Very helpful : ) One talk I heard on quilt design suggested that if the quilt piecing is very linear/geometric, consider a curvy quilting design for it...and if the piecing is curvy, consider more straight line quilting designs. That has worked well for me as a starting place when thinking about how to quilt the quilt!
@whirlsnswirlsquilting4362

That is absolutely true and I use that theory also. The juxtaposition between straight and curvy works really nicely both ways.

What an excellent video covering areas that most gloss over. My few attempts with variegated have been unsuccessful so far but your tip about stitch length is going to send me back to my machine and do a test sample on the few spools I own trying the same design in different stitch lengths. Thank you so much for passing on your knowledge.

I am only good at meander. I use it or loops. I can do feathers. I wouldn’t call them good, but for me, they’re ok. I’m not going to even try some of that fancy quilting. I don’t think the quilting should compete with the quilt top pattern. It used to be that the quilting was just to hold the quilt together. My grandmother handmade quilts. She just used, I think it was yarn and called tied? Not sure, but my point is, the quilting doesn’t need to be fancy. It’s pretty when you can see it, but if you have to hold it up to the light to see it, because it’s a busy quilt top, then it’s not necessary. So I do meander. Just my opinion, of course. I guess I’m a minimalist. 🙂 Thanks for all of your videos. I think I’ve watched most of them and they are very helpful. You do beautiful work.

You gave me a few “lightbulb” moments in this video. I never thought about “quilting all the air out” and what it does to the warmth of the quilt. I also have never thought about using variegated thread, but you made it look so good, I think I might try it. I would like to know the name of the quilting design on the quilt with the small squares on a black background. (It’s the one you said you quilted all the air out of, but it will hang on the wall, so it really doesn’t have to be warm). I’m just starting to collect designs for my computer quilting. Thank you for a very thought-provoking video.

That's a great tip on lengthening the stitch length with variegated thread, or any thread, for that matter. When I first saw your up-close look at the stitching on your skull, I thought I must not have my Lucey set correctly (?) or something, because my stitches look tighter than that. But I normally use about 11 SPI, so that explains everything!! Whew!! Thanks for this great video! 💕
