Former media editor here 🖐️ probably nobody noticed but at the end of the clips Michelle played look closely at the jump between the 2nd last clip and the last clip of the videos, they're always vastly different... That's because they usually do final touch ups and other things to make the final result look "better". Like the lemon and sugar one I noticed there was more lighting used on the arm pit to make it look lighter and the pomegranate one the mixed stuff in the bowl and the stuff in the dropper that ended up on her face the color was COMPLETELY different! I learn something new every time I watch your videos. I knew that most DIY is unreliable, but the fact that you need a lot of pure honey in a water free recipe means that the antibacterial claims are basically bogus. Just about every DIY skincare hack I see using honey also includes some form of water while claiming to be antibacterial.

I am always curious about new hacks in DIY. Thanks for pointing out the true cost of these ingredients. I would also factor in the time it takes to make these concoctions and how often the you would need to do them to see any results. DIY normally implies that it’s a money-saving idea. No need for a Goop version. I agree. 🙏 Real talk: I have stopped using lemon juice and a few other other “natural” ingredients on my skin. MORE pls!!! 😆 I had a classmate before in high school whose fair complexion I envied so much. 🙈 Asians and this obsession for white skin, right? 😅🙈 She told me before she takes a bath, she squeezes out calamansi juice, rubs it on her whole body, let it stay for about 10-15 mins, and then takes her shower 🚿 She does this DAILY! I tried to imitate her 🙈 but fortunately, I didn't feel comfortable with it (a blessing in disguise!) and so I stopped after just 3 times. Now I realized she likely had what you called "chemical leukoderma" because she couldn't go out under the sun ☀ without an umbrella. Her skin would immediately turn red and she said it stings. 🙈 Oh, if only we knew what we know now about lemons or calamansi juice on skin. Lightening an armpit with lemon? I don't like when people put things like lemon juice directly on the skin. It throws off the skin pH. I agree with it more likely to cause sunburn. And, any nicks or burns or sensitivity caused by shaving or waxing will make the area more irritated by the lemon. I would suggest exfoliating and using a clay mask to help remove darkness. Some people suggest using Aztec Healing Clay.

Ole henriksen has a lemon scrub that I think is possibly worse than walnut scrubs. Their lemon scrub has glycolic acid, lactic acid, sugar exfoliants and multiple lemon peel extracts. OH even have this on the product's website: "Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product for a week afterward." Funny thing is they recommend using the scrub 2-3 times per week yet tell you to stay out of the sun for a week after usage. Their sunburn warning only refers to the AHAs but it doesn't extend to the lemon peel (and other citrus) ingredients that could cause the sun burn reaction you refer to in this video. I remember when this product came out, there were a lot comments on their instagram pointing out that the lemon scrub was probably too strong of an exfoliant and combined with the lemon extracts and their recommended 2-3 times per week usuage, would eventually increase skin sensitivity. The fact that the scrub is apparently one of their best sellers is genuinely concerning imo.

@@whitneyschmitney Yep, dose makes the poison. Used to work with a wound care doctor that has honey and sugar in his arsenal along with other antibiotics and he uses those even on uncontrolled diabetics (makes up most of his patient base) because according to him topical sugars aren't metabolized like digested sugar and it's amount is too small to cause blood sugar spikes.

I started using an epilator instead of a razor, and now my armpits don’t look darker than the rest of the skin. Epilators remove the entire hair, including the root, and when it grows back, the hair usually becomes finer (lighter, softer). Getting used to using it in that area can be too difficult for some people, though.

I found a DIY that works very good but I'm not sure of its safety... Is using baking soda as a deodorant safe for daily use? I just mix the baking soda with some water and rub it in. I know it I used from some people for cleaning and afraid it could be too rough on the armpits...

I use baking soda on my scalp and to clean small household areas. Baking soda is abrasive, it basically exfoliates a surface if you rub it in. Unless you’re working somewhere delicate (like the skin on your face/genitals or an easily-scratched household surface), baking soda shouldn’t cause harm if you don’t rub it in too roughly. I’ve never heard of making a paste as deodorant, only patting it into the skin dry. If it’s not irritating your skin & there’s no pain, redness, swelling, raised bumps, etc, you should be fine. Some types of jewelry or glass (like in coffee pots) are easily damaged by small scratches. You may not be able to see them individually, but the surface can become slightly cloudy. This can be dangerous with the carafe because it holds extremely hot liquids, so be careful with anything abrasive.

@@lamemechose7072 baking soda is very alkaline though, and skin wants to be acidic.
