9:46 - The reason the official saw the slap was he'd just stepped in to warn the players to knock it off. Then the slap. That alone should rise to a flagrant. I would also keep my eyes on the slapped player. He appears to give a little taunt after the call. Probably not enough to make a call but definitely enough to penalize if more comes from it.

Play 2 - defender is in a legal guarding position, moves laterally (at, toward, or from the side or sides; sideways) "by rule a legal move by defender", beats the ballhandler to the spot - as demonstrated by the defender's foot being stepped on, by rule- time and distances is not required. easily have a player control foul by rule. no calls are more customary in these circumstances though.

27:56 Egregious walking violation for sure. But the offender gets an ice cream this time!

Play 1, while at regular speed, could be a charge. The elements are there. In slow motion, there is a little bit of a flop?

Play 1, say we give the flop signal, goal is counted. White gets throw in, correct?

In play 2 - this is a play that the trail official has to see the whole play. I didn't see the foot being stepped on.

I am confused about play # 5. Both teams are in the bonus and a foul is ruled against the offense. The offended player on defense is awarded two free throws. What am I missing here? I have been instructed that the ball in these instances is awarded out of bounds. Am I missing something here in my interpretation?

There is no team control when the ball is in the air during a shot. This foul would not be considered a team/player control foul so we are shooting bonus. You don’t shoot bonus free throws on PCF or TCF

Where in the nfhs rule book does it state that officials can't come together to discuss preliminary signals to come to a determination on the play? It states you can't overrule another official, but there is nothing that I have found in the rule book or case book that precludes the ability of officials to come together to get the call right, one way or another. I'm not trying to be obstinate. I really want to be referred to the right location in the book so I'm educated and properly armed when this happens on the floor.

@@jeffwright7587 Thanks. I'm quite familiar with that case situation. However, it does not provide language of any kind that precludes officials from discussing for the purpose of determining what is right. It seems that what we are left with is "if it doesn't say we can, then we can't." That, of course, can be challenged with "if it doesn't say we can't, then we can." One of the issues at hand is that this ONLY pertains to blk/chg calls. There is no other situation in our work that challenges the notion of officials communicating on the floor. We point at one another to give up calls, we discuss hand vs fist between officials, we talk about common foul vs intentional, etc. Of course, if we stop giving up preliminaries, then all is well :). I love the discussion....

@@stephenwinslow7680I'm not sure why the Rules Book would state that we communicate with our partners when everything implies that we should. The Case Book play referenced implies communication or we don't get a double foul, nor would we know how to adjudicate it. We never overrule the calling official but we can give them different information and let them decide to use it or not. And, as always, when in doubt, let the official make the call from their primary.

Play 3 is, in my opinion, a flagrant foul. Cannot have high school players slapping each other!

In play 5, I rewound a number of times and from the camera view, couldn't see a foul.

I wonder how many "blarges" are called each season! How many know that if there is one, each are called and we have a double foul. The shot clock is not reset too! Unfortunately we only have 2 officials on most games in the CIF-SS with the exception of the Trinity League. We do get 3 officials starting in the quarterfinals of the section playoffs.

in play 5, what is that trail doing? waving his hand, messing with the table whilst his colleague is communicating. Your partner is making a call. Shut up and focus on the players, on the benches, until it is clear, and *then* you go.

I'm calling a blocking foul. I don't like the flop rule in some instances. 90% of defenders taking a charge are flopping in a way. Some just look better lol
