In this video, we took a close look at the top 5 most dangerous areas in the city of Bristol based on the official crime stats.
Our list includes Bedminster, Hartcliffe, Kingsdown, Temple Meads, and the City Centre.
We filmed the areas capturing the dangerous and crime-ridden parts, the colourful 'street art' that Bristol is famous for, and some interesting landmarks.
Each area has its own good and bad, struggles, etc but most importantly is home to decent people for the most part, let's not forget that.
If you live in any of these areas we'd love to hear from you!
Please drop a comment below the video and share your experiences with the rest of the viewers, thanks.

I've been a delivery rider for 5 Years in Bristol and regularly delivered to many of the tower blocks and areas listed here and been out late partying 4 to 6 am sometimes I never had any trouble... I have witnessed a fair few assaults but it has always involved intoxicated people looking for trouble... Imo a truly dangerous area is where trouble finds you whether you look for it or not. Compared to townships of South Africa or the Favellas of Brazil Bristol and the UK is very safe indeed

Yeah I totally agree, I used to live in Bristol and go back to visit friends there often. Never felt unsafe. I think violent crime statistics are skewed in a way with criminals being at war with each other. If you’re just a normal person and not involved in anything you’re unlikely to get into any ruckus.

I'm shocked that Easton, formerly known as the stabbing capital of the UK, and St Pauls didn't feature on this list. I guess the crimes there go more unreported with less police presence. With the infamous 'crack alley' and 'turbo island' in the Stokes Croft/St Paul's area and the number of abandoned houses and crack heads shouting in the streets I always felt it was much more dangerous that the rest of Bristol when I lived in the city.

@@francesbelle7734 all you have to do is google stapleton road to see it's reputation for stabbing. I personally know someone who was stabbed to death in Easton. Just because someone's experience is different to yours doesn't mean they are wrong. Perhaps you are the one who needs to ditch your preconceptions and pay attention. I'm not slagging off Bristol, I love the place, that doesn't mean you can't point out some of it's flaws.

I think those areas have changed a lot since I lived in Bristol between 2013-2016. They're now expensive places (St Paul's at least anyways) that's had a lot of gentrification. Also, the problem with places like teh CIty Centre and Temple Meads is that the crime rates don't reflect the area well. They'll likely be done by per 1000 population or w/e, but they receive a lot more footfall than they have living there, so the rates are massively distorted. Tbh I never encountered issues in Bristol ever - lovely city.

I looked at this video to reminisce and see some areas I particularly liked. I've frequented all of these regularly as I've lived and worked amongst all of them here. I have no idea what anyone's expectations of inner city life is, but the images you've managed to focus on are what a lot of people may see as negative e.g. derelict buildings, tower blocks and graffiti. I particularly like these kind of places as well as the 'prettier' side of the city; however, if you don't show both sides it's totally out of context and could look grim to many. I know what the video is about, but the dialogue in some parts are an exaggeration . Telling people who alight from Temple Meads not to hang around or turn a wrong corner. Jesus, it's not a war zone. Do yourselves a favour and visit Bristol, you'll have an awesome time. Friendly people and great times to be had. If you're not involved in the shadier side or don't act like a dick, you'll be fine.

Oof trashed my dialogue 😀it’s all good, a bit of dry humour on my part and this is all still new to me. I’m not trying to put anyone off going to Bristol, and I don’t expect the tourist board to pick this video up! It’s intentionally one-sided, these are statistically the five highest crime areas in Bristol which was of interest to me, and backend analytical data from YT confirms it’s of interest to a wider audience. While nicer areas are not.

Don't get me wrong the footage is brilliant (I personally liked that side of the city) just worries me some people may be put off from a good experience. It's now almost unrecognisable from when I first visited the area. A few clubs and pubs have since gone. I do like the area a lot but there's less of a 'local' vibe to it now and businesses seem to go as soon as they pop up. St. Paul's has also lost many good pubs too. I would say they were my favourite areas to hang out when I was there. Entertaining in many ways to say the least.

Lived in Bedmo, Redcliffe, St Werbs, Easton and now settled in Montpelier and maybe it's just me but I've never come across anything I would consider violent except places like Broad Quay on the weekend late at night which can get quite rowdy (fountains, bnb, millenium square, pryzm, v-shed etc). Stokes sort of "feels" like its gotten a bit worse to be honest over the years, mainly due to just rowdy students, but hey, I walk through it every night coming home and don't get hassled. I've walked home to the above locations consistently around 2-4am a few times a week (gigs, lash, late work etc) and never once have I got into any trouble. Any serious fighting I've ever seen has been some goof stepping to the wrong shit or some absolute cod being obnoxious and ticking off the wrong people. Feel like a lot of people who feel unsafe in Bristol are the muppets moving from richer areas paying 450,000 for a 2 bed in Bedmo then having an anxiety attack when they walk past some young'ens donning some North Face as they google maps the nearest Laura Ashley, which in all honest is their insecurity, not safety. No, it's not the "safety" you would feel in certain cities, but there is a sense of precaution some people just have. You need to get used to it in any Urban Area as condensed as Bristol.

I live just outside Bristol and have been to most of the areas featured, I don't think it's all as bad as portrayed here eg if you go to places like Temple Meads or the shopping centre around Cabot Circus in the daytime they feel completely safe, 90% of the crimes probably occur later on in the evening/night time. Having said that I would never want to go into St Pauls (not featured in the video), I think most crime there is undetected as the police don't want to go there.

St Paul's Easton, Southmead and Lockleaze are far more dodgy than any of the areas featured here and the first two at least have a lot going for them. The idea that Kingsdown ( outside maybe of Stokes Croft which is a law onto itself and nobody in Bristol would class as Kingsdown anyway) is some kind of crime ridden hell hole is hilarious. The majority of it is pretty posh.

Wow. You’ve really gone to town on Bristol!!! I’ve lived i Bristol all my life and live and work in bedminster, city centre and temple meads areas. It’s nowhere near as bad as you say. Granted the graffiti is a problem and you can’t get away from the crime stats. However as someone in my late 40s who regularly goes out night and day in half the areas and has done for years, I can probably count on both hands how many serious crimes I’ve witnessed. If you mind your own business and stay on the right side of the law, you’re pretty much ok. In the main people are courteous and friendly. Some of your filming is of the same street/places over and over again. You’ve even got footage of the outside of a friend’s house which was during a time when they were gutting and renovating it (trying to portray fly tipping). The old pub and building around temple meads by the flats have been derelict for over 15 years or more. You mention it’s probably only recent and deteriorated quickly because of how rough it is around there which is non sense. The low property prices around this area is because it’s all flats and no houses not because of how deprived the area is. Some of the buildings that are empty are because of the extortionate fees charged by the council and landlords making it difficult for businesses to survive. But there do and they are. I could go on and I hope people pay no attention to your unfair and imbalanced portrayal of Bristol.

That is a depressing image of UK, as a whole.I'm in China for a few monhs and you don't see any of this and most people live in 40 storey tower blocks-all in good condition, with no grafitti and you hardly see any police, apart from the occasional arguments you'll get anywhere. No homeless, apart from the odd occasion when some people have got mental problems, but tents are in camp sites for holidaymakers. Most people go out at night to do Line dancing, in public squares,Tai Chi, play chess, food streets etc never seen any no go areas. There'll be organised crime, but not random muggings etc

Temple Meads is just the name of the station. Bath City Council calls the immediate area Temple Quarter, but no one I know talks about Quarters, unless it's Four Quarters bar on Park Street. The area behind the station is mostly referred to as St Philips. Opposite the station it's Redcliff(e) north of The Cut and Bedminster on the south side.

I've lived in Hartcliffe for almost 30 years, and can honestly say i've never had any real trouble living there. Most people who live there certainly don't feel deprived and have good jobs and go to college and universities. Just like anywhere in Britain, you're going to have good and bad people in both deprived and affluent areas. I'm in no way attacking you're view as it's based on government statistics, but just to possibly educate those who wouldn't go anywhere near Hartcliffe based on - what i would say, unfair criticism. It's not the best place in the world, but it's not the hell hole people make it out to be. Most people who judge Hartcliffe have never stepped foot in the area.

Tbh many bristol residents myself included would list different areas you should be cautious in, i think when it comes to this stats arent always the best way to rely on things. Bedminster at night is probably the only one residents would also tell you to be cautious in ( along with the city center but i thimk that applys to all citys) St pauls and easton would probably be top of residents "be cautious" lists yet they arent feature on here at all.

This is great viewing, because you use factual data as well as clips of our City as we know it to be, as opposed to the way in which many seem to idealise Bristol (eg endless pictures of Clifton). There are a number of comments below which read as calling into question your findings and they pose interesting questions: I too am extremely surprised at a number of absences from the list (most obviously Southmead and Easton, but there are some parts of East Bristol too which I would have expected to figure). I can't help wondering whether the stats might be factually correct but possibly misleading, there might be cultural factors at play - ie very high crime areas where serious offences are routinely not even reported to the police. A 'tourist' or shopper in the City centre or Temple Meads areas is probaly far more likely to report crimes which are relatively minor compared to inter-gang violence or other drug related crimes happening elsewhere across the city. So sadly, I guess this (great) work is in fact, examination of the tip of an iceberg.

Thanks, appreciate your kind words. It’s exactly what you said, yes, and I touch on it in the video; like templemeads being due to the station, bedminster having disproportionate vehicle crime (this is all from memory), some areas not reporting many crimes, and so on. I do take into account the opinions of locals in some videos, but for the most part I use published stats as a constant.

Having lived here for 15 years I'd say the idea that Bedminster is one of the most dangerous places in Bristol is completely laughable. Its one of the most gentrified areas in the city with some of the fastest rising house prices in the entire UK. Those crime numbers must be skewed by including parts of Knowle or Bishopsworth or be entirely made up of petty minor crimes. You're more likely to be run over by a young mother with a skinny chai latte on North Street than ever see a fight. Similarly I'm amazed Easton didnt make the list. I worked there for five years and the area around Stapleton Road was rife with muggings, gang fights and a couple of murders. Maybe it's changed since then but in the winter it was always a pretty unpleasant commute

Yeah, I just went with the official crime stats as if I went with my own opinion I’d get way more people telling me I have it all wrong. At least now we can blame the way the police collate their crime stats. Although I’d my memory serves me correctly I explained why bedminster featured so highly.

I grew up and lived in various parts around and in Bristol from 1981-2018. It was great in the 1980's, 1990s' and first half of the 2000's but then it started getting gentrified (like a lot of cities around this time) and then started to become full of pretentious 'cool' people from London. You stopped seeing people you knew and the whole city is just unrelatable. The city centre has been declining for the last 15 years, its overrated and overpriced. Bedminster was seen as a shit hole, Bradley Stole soulless and Brislington full of people with names like Rupert, Jacinta and Freddy the fucking cat. Stokes Croft was dodgy but that's where a lot of the Alternative venues were in the 2000's. Old Market was always seen as Seedy and had quite a lot of Adult Shops and Gay Saunas. Bristol is getting more dodgy because the scum of London are moving there.

If it looks a bit grim on a lovely summer afternoon with rubbish & decaying buildings , i don’t wanna imagine it on a freezing cold grey November in late afternoon as darkness looms..Jesus. I’m not being smug it just seems much worse if things seem hopeless in darker gloomier climates. we were able to pick up the HTV signal before digital switchover & this presentation makes it sound more unpleasant than the regional news portrayed back then ! Apart from the black & white statistics what’s not clear about these places is the effect a few - even tens of nasty crimes can have on an entire district & the 50 thousand folk whom live there as the Bournemouth Echo regularly manages with certain districts of Bournemouth & Poole. I lived in Boscombe- THE ‘nasty’ part of east Bournemouth from 2004 to 2010 & made trips at midnight to the 24hr stores but apart from being propositioned by a drunken lad whom needed directions to the local cottaging location ( Shelley Park) & one guy whom called me Sam , didn’t feel threatened in spite of being a scrawny 40 yr old. Bristol city fell into the hands of talentless architect's and corrupt planners since the war. Big contractor's fill their pockets parasiting Bristol and I'm sure those in planning benefit from it financially, otherwise we might have had a truly loved and beautiful city, and that could only have happened if we had been determined to employ respectful architect's with talent. There are small pocket's of Bristol with a hint of it's ancient Soul we can still proudly point tourist's to, aplogising when overshadowed by tower's of a growing concete jungle and swathes of tarmac, potholes, and badly laid pavement's. George Ferguson you were at least that much better than the present day Mayor. Sadly the city has been taken by woke ideologies and this mental illness may never be cured.

I’ve had a look through your list of videos, but I can’t seem to find any of cities and towns in Scotland! How about visiting a few of them? Glasgow, Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen and even Edinburgh, are just a few suggestions. Anyway, statistics don’t give you the full story. One of the ‘most dangerous’ areas you mentioned in Bristol houses many decent people living there. Sure enough, some may want to move elsewhere, but may have lived there before things got really bad and will find it difficult to move away. Spare a thought for close relatives of people who live in the areas that you pinpointed and are concerned for the safety of their families! Watching your videos will intensify their concerns! 😱🥺

We want to visit Scotland for sure, but it’s a full day travel from where we are, so a 3 day turnaround to film 2 locations. But we’ll get up to Scotland eventually for sure. I agree that stats only tell part of the story and I do try to mention that in our videos. But it’s the best consistent data we have to work with as a benchmark. That said, we’re being more flexible in recent videos taking into account other data points like forums, feedback we’re receiving, asking locals, etc. We’re nowhere near as scandalous or clickbaity as the local or national media, so I do hope we don’t unnecessarily alarm anyone while still highlighting the worst areas in different locations. At the end of the day we’re walking around these places carrying expensive equipment without concern. 🙂

You’re right, nobody likes a grass. I went with the official published stats as I showed in the video, it’s the most consistent way to approach it. But stats only ever tell part of the story, I know. Interested to know what you think the most deprived area in Bristol is?

Bedminster is #5 on the official stats, stats only tell have the story I get that, but we have to use something and be consistent.

I've walked home through Bedminster on many a drunken night out, and not once have I come to any harm. The video you have shown paints it in a dark light . If it was that bad, then why are the house prices one of the most expensive in Bristol

@@johnywaffle1365 I think I mentioned there is really high vehicle crime there which pushed the overall crime rate up. But crime stats only tell part of the story always, but we have to go by data as a standard. Maybe you're too imposing a figure to be a victim 😁 - what could I do differently? It's a video highlighting the top 5 highest crime areas.
