You are right. The nursing home setting is totally different from the hospital. Working in the emergency room as a RN, it took me a while to get use to the nursing home setting as a NP and most importantly it took me five nursing home jobs to find one that I'm finally comfortable with. It is very important to have a good relationship with your DON, MDS, etc if you want to survive in this environment. When it comes to law suits, it doesn't matter where you work. You are so right, choosing the doctor or the group you will be working with is very important.

So true. I did addiction medicine and housecall provider prior to working in the nursing home setting. I just made a year of working in the nursing home setting.

I spent most of my career in skilled nursing MDS, ADON, and so on, your right the state will be called at a drop of a hat. Here in Florida, most doctors are forming large groups just because of the number of patients and doctors. I am considering psych NP but I need to get into school and finish. I agree to get to know your doctors in the area when you see the ad do the research before you apply.

I'm glad I found your videos. I'm a new NP and have an offer for a SNF/LTC. I'm not looking forward to the mental hump, and questions myself if this is worth it. I love the money I make as a travel RN and make twice as much compared to a NP. But my body is bro!d from all the physical humps of bedside nursing. I want to practice and use my degree, NP school is hard esp I went to a brick and mortar NP school....but will it pay my bills? I know it depends on what I need and how they will be met. I just wish they pay NPs more and stop low balling us.

I'm currently working in LTC (2nd job since graduating, but first FT job). My last semester of clinical rotations was rounding at various facilities with a GNP and I absolutely loved it (maybe it's the masochist in me 😂). I know one thing is for sure, they will try you! I've had too many years in home health (from clinical to behind the scenes) and ah ready fe dem!! I've learned a lot from your videos and looking forward to being able to really REALLY relate now that I'm in the thick of it. 😀

When looking for a NP job what are some of the most important things you kept in mind during your search? Did you consult with anyone before making your final decision?

Hi I'm a new Grad AGNP and I recently was offered a position at a SNF. I'm kinda nervous. Any more tips or techniques to rounding and everything else that comes with the gig? I welcome any advice. Please and thanks 😊

Hi. When you said you need a mentor. How do you get one? Do you have to pay to get a mentor? I feel that having one is very important to be successful as a nurse practitioner.

Hey Lori, been watching you for a while ! I really appreciate your content ! I’m about to start my FNP program soon and I’m thinking about which areas I could see myself working in. I chose FNP because I don’t want to work in the hospital setting anymore. I think I would be content in a outpatient setting. I appreciate your transparency about your current position, it seems to me that you reflect on your experiences and use them to be a better np. I know new grad nps will have limited options to start with, however do you know of / recommend any lower stress areas I could look into?
@fromcnatonp3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching, Congratulations on starting your NP journey! I definitely want to be transparent as much as possible with my role so that others can truly see what it is and what must of us do. As for a lower stress area, no I cannot say I know of any. I do think that when you are new it feels more stressful until you are acclimated to the role. All the best
