Best advice I ever received for growing hair: Low manipulation. I've been stumbling around on this planet for 50-some years and I literally had NO IDEA. No wonder I failed so many times to grow my hair. And now that I'm post menopausal, I may 🚫 never get the results I could have had when I was younger. Regardless of my own results, I can still see a huge difference. Low manipulation! Wow!!

Yesssss all this. "Put your natural hair game on easy mode." - Tatiana White on YT. I was in prayer about my hair and Jesus just clarified to me that my natural hair type is "done" it doesn't need to be hyper-manipulated the way I was led to believe as a kid. Yes kids with coily hair benefit from braids so things don't get stuck in it, so they can play. But an afro/ a fro with a part in it that is structured/ styled with intention/ has symmetry to it, looks well kept, is beautiful and elegant too.
@hereforit23474 ай бұрын
@@erikaa.3030: I wore an Afro for five years as a child in the late 60s to early 70s. It was the original, LITERAL wash-and-go. My mom sometimes had Afro Sheen oil-sheen spray, Afro Sheen hair grease, or a tube of VO5 hair grease, but she didn’t allow us to use them. I sneaked and used some, but that was rare. We didn’t even have hair conditioner back then. I think it existed, but we didn’t have any in our house. I shampooed every few days with the harsh shampoos that were available at the time, mostly Prell. I rinsed and picked my hair out with an Afro pick. I slept on my Afro and picked it out again every day before school. That was my entire hair routine.

Oil rins best advice and mix olive oil with the conditioner
@AhsokaJackson6 ай бұрын
Awesome video-as usual!! I really love the expertise and detail that ladies like you & GreenBeauty bring to the table. Like the stuff about how to use coconut oil properly and how not all oils are actually sealants, or understanding protein and moisture balance and the fact that water can basically help AND harm the hair in different ways. As far as the most useful tip I've ever gotten…I think following your wash regimen for a while legitimately helped reduce the porosity of my hair after it had been stuck with high porosity ages and would dry out way too quickly. I think I actually need to get back to it, in fact! So I'll rate that as a very important Number 2, but I think my Number 1 would actually have to be detangling under running water. It could still be quite difficult, especially since I still needed to find the right conditioners to assist with the process, and a lot of stuff didn't have enough slip. Plus my skin is already very sensitive and tends to be allergic to most products it comes in contact with (I don't even use lotion at all on my face as a result-not even stuff specifically meant for facial use). BUT detangling in the shower was still such a gamechanger even with the issues. I would spend HOURS at a time to finger-detangle my hair out of the shower. It was so miserable and time-consuming…and I'd still end up with large sections that I'd somehow missed with how much density and volume I have, and when the knotting would be close to the roots I could end up with significant amounts of hair having to be cut. And it was just such a vicious cycle because I would rarely have the time or energy for it, especially with having preexisting health conditions. And of course rarely being able to handle it just gave it all the more time and opportunity to tangle! But my best friend (who has wildly different hair from myself, ironically enough) gave me the tip of detangling by using a brush and lots of conditioner in the shower, and that took the process from like 2 and 3 hours to 30 or 40 minutes. For some reason that hasn't been working as well for me more recently (it just occurred to me that maybe it's that I need to clarify so my hair can accept the water and products properly again), but it was still such a huge help. I was at the point where I didn't know what the heck I could do other than cutting my hair, and besides random smaller mishaps over the years, I already had to get a major unwanted haircut for my whole head years ago and am super averse to ever doing any major cutting again. So yeah. I know it doesn't work well at all for some folks, and it can be tricky even for me, but soaking my hair down like that enabled me to actually get all the way through it-without it taking multiple hours-and if I used a firm enough brush with sufficiently long bristles where I could check and make sure I didn't still have those awful tangles near my roots. Maybe this should count as two separate tips, but I really can't do one without the other: I needed the right tools for detangling in the shower, too. Actually I'd say a comb (or comb-like device like the Felicia Leatherwood brush) or your fingers works the best for actually checking the roots, and then you use the brush for the actual detangling. And I'm not someone who can detangle thoroughly with a wide-toothed comb like many can; those wide spaces just mean it misses most of the smaller knots and tangles, plus the teeth will be too large and blunt to actually get into them and help tease them apart. By the way, I was gonna comment initially on how darned gorgeous your hair was looking, but Goddang, your skin is absolutely glowing over here, too!! 😂😃🥰👌💪
@sable71146 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your tips. I've never been successful with a brush but then I don't shampoo in the shower either
@AhsokaJackson6 ай бұрын
@@sable7114 Ooh, I'm glad you mentioned the shampoo, actually. Since it tends to immediately increase friction and make my hair more tangly, I don't use the shampoo until after I do the detangling with conditioner, actually. And I try to keep it brief and just focus on applying it to my scalp and scrubbing that (gently), and just use the excess for the length of my hair. That's another tip I learned a while back: conditioner is mainly for the length of the hair while shampoo is mainly meant to clean the scalp, and you should only apply it fairly sparingly to the lengths of your hair. Obviously the amount needed does depend on how much buildup you have on your hair and how strong the shampoo is. And like detangling with conditioner first is a good compromise where it does start to clean your hair some and remove some of the buildup that can exacerbate knotting, but also doesn't strip your hair as much as shampoo does, which for me makes knotting and catching much worse. So I detangle with conditioner, then shampoo once or twice, depending on what's needed, and then go back with conditioner again and make sure to let some stay behind. I know some folks have success immediately adding leave in conditioner while still in the shower, too. Applying leave-in stuff while my hair is very wet is trickier for me since that tends to result in product traces dripping down my face as my hair dries, and my face is even more sensitive than the rest of my skin already is. 😭😭 Oh! And regarding brushes, I've definitely found it's a tricky balance since you need the bristles to be firm and closely enough spaced that they actually are able to grab the knots and detangle them rather than just bending _around_ them, but they also need to be soft and widely spaced enough that they don't just tear through my hair or actually snag onto hair that isn't even tangled. 😅😅 The Tangle Teezer I got (I believe it was either medium or coarse density; I might have better results with the one for fine hair, I'm suspecting) definitely does detangle but it has the unfortunate problem where it seems to catch on the actual curl pattern of my hair and snag hair that isn't truly knotted. So far, the Unbrush has actually given me my best results so far; I find that if I'm careful and make sure to start from the very ends of my hair (I also will do some light finger detangling first) and use it in conjunction with the Enrichure detangling pre-poo, which has MAD slip, I tend to have very minimal hair loss and it also doesn't take me ages to get through. I forget the name, but the Unbrush is visibly similar to another couple of brushes and probably works about the same. One lady did a review of about five or six detangling brushes, including the Unbrush and those, so I'd say the other brands are probably going to serve you well, too, if you want to try them. But hair is definitely very individual. A lot of times I'll see ladies very briskly pulling through their hair with stiffer combs and brushes and I know I'd be snapping the heeeck out of my hair if I tried that. 😭✋ Oh, and I use a plastic rake comb with nice, pointy teeth to do my roots check. They're super cheap on Amazon, like 3 or 4 dollars? The one I got isn't seamless, though, so you might not want to use that for actually detangling mostly. But those teeth are great at sliding next to my roots precisely without catching sections I'm not trying to bother. Honestly, whether or not you get any brushes or combs, I'd still recommend the Enrichure. It's hard for me to find products that don't just promptly cake on my hair and get sticky and actually make the tangling and hair breakage worse soon, but the Enrichure is amazing. It also adds moisture to my hair really quickly, which is also key for minimizing the breakage as I start to manipulate it. And you can just lightly add water as you work if you're taking a while-or you can have your hair already damp-and the drying isn't a problem like it is with some other conditioners I've tried (this is when detangling outside the shower, I mean). It is meant to be rinsed out and will get flaky as a leave-in, but it's such a good product when used for detangling before a wash or rinse. ^^

Will be trying this, for some reason i havent been able to get the most out of the shampoos/conditioners ive been buying. My hair ends up feeling tangled to some parts looking real dry like no water has touched it when i know that prior to washing the products off my whole hair was wet.
