I packed up smoking using nicotine patches, but only for 3 days, but I survived without major trauma, and went "cold Turkey" from there But I didn't tell anybody I had quit smoking and I was a fortnight into my quit before anybody asked me for a cigarette I had not been seen smoking, I wasn't offering or poncing fags but nobody took any notice and even 2 months into the quit, fellow workmates hadn't realised I was quit smoking, and a couple asked me for a fag, but when I revealed I had stopped, they told me to keep it up After about 3 months, a rumour went round I had stopped and I admitted I had, interest quickly died down, but it was far easier by NOT telling anybody and not offering not poncing

My favourite tip is the vicious cycle that the last cigarette caused and the relief the next one alleviates. Never thought of it like this. I relate to all the steps. 44 years old and I still hide smoking from my family! The rigmarole of cleaning myself up, making sure my house doesn't smell, even carrying a small bottle of comfort in my bag, leave in hair conditioner and mints, just because I had a cigg on the way to my folks (as an example) is embarrassing to say the least. I can relate to each an every point you made. I'm so scared to give up. I love smoking on holiday. I love the anxiety relief, I love the way it soothes me. I HATE THE WAY THEY CONTROL ME AND MAKE ME BELIEVE SUCH REDICULOUS LIES ABOUT THEIR POWER. I HATE THAT THEY MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A LOSER FOR GOING THROUGH A CLEAN UP ROUTINE. I HATE THAT I FEEL I NEED THEM. It very much is part and parcel with psychological issues in my humble opinion. Much like an abusive partner, you stay because YOU THINK you can't do any better without them, that you need them and who you without this identity? What's going to help you? What's going to be your crutch when you're going through a bad time. I wanted to give up once, this was when I left an abusive relationship and the cessation group who I went to told me not to, because going through two emotionally traumatic things could knock me over the edge. I've used this as my excuse not to give up, even when things became better, but here I am again 7 years later, in a bad place in my life and still smoking these addition sticks. I am going to give up! I now know they are just as abusive and controlling and why should I let them control me!! Big words from someone who only had a cigarette an hour ago but you know what, if I keep saying tomorrow... Well, we all know tomorrow never comes, because when it does its now today! So today I am going to start my journey. I'm scared as f**k but here goes, saving money, saving my life, and removing the abusive addition from my life... 🤔 Put like that it doesn't sound so bad does it?? This will become my mantra! Thank you for this video... I'm sure I'll be watching loads more going forward... I can already feel the anxiety building, which is why I'm frantically typing... and my message became this long... Oops 😣 I wish everyone on here the very very best of luck in beating this demon!! x

After over 42 years of smoking, am now going on 7 weeks as a non-smoker. And I AM claiming myself as a non-smoker. I feel that I deserve to. My breathing is still a bit tight and breath a bit short, however the doctor insists that will get better. I can sleep through the night with no coughing fits waking me up. I have extra time, now. It was a struggle to process that initially. Now, I take those former smoke breaks at work by walking for the EXACT AMOUNT OF TIME that it used to take me to smoke a cigarette. And.... the money that I am no longer spending on cigarettes, per month, is a greater amount than my monthly car payment. Quitting smoking is paying for my car!

One of the strangest things I have found is that not getting rid of my last pack, my lighters, has been hugely helpful. I was ( notice the past tense) a 2-3 pack a day smoker for over 20 years. It has been helpful to have the same pack of smokes siTting in front of me for a couple of weeks now as I have something to say f-u to every time time I get a craving. If you can be mentally strong enough to give smokes a big middle finger while they stare you in the face, it is almost rewarding on some strange level at least for me.

What really helps me with the psychological aspect is A) workout!! if i‘m at home and wanna smoke i go for a run or do some follow along youtube videos that are fun! when i‘m outside i remember tips like „Say out loud: I AM a non-smoker“ or i actively (in my head though!! not out loud lol) pity the people I see smoking. even at a party. it really helps and it gives me a happy lil feeling to know i‘m not trapped anymore 😁 honestly; just be ready to live a bit differently. youll probably change some routines (instead of smoking like i said i now use the time to workout, or i have time to play games or draw or do diy stuff anything really, youll gain new hobbies) and apart from that maybe you need to evaluate your company. i have one friend who smokes who is also terrible in the sense that she has twice when i tried stopping told me that i shouldnt stop and shouldnt make myself succumb to the pain of stopping. i dont see her for the time being.

I am day 20 without cigs but am currently not without nicotine unfortunately. I did stop from 3am until I "forgot" I wasn't a smoker and bought a vape at 11pm. It's now 1am. I'm going to do it a different way now. I'm going to keep it but just tuck it away. I think that helps something in my brain with the panic of running out. I won't be out ever, but I just won't need it. I'll think this time, is it worth it, and just know it's not. I finished Allen carrs book a couple days ago. And when I had my nicotine after going nearly 20 hours, I actually didn't even enjoy it. I kind of just reassured myself that it doesn't even help the craving much at all, if it does it just comes back anyways really quick. Your smile was reassuring, it's great to know that by watching the video it's proof to myself I haven't quite given up. So, round 999 starts now, quitting again!!

I read this book. I am right at seven days no nicotine cold turkey. This book did teach me a few things about my addiction and gave me different ways to look at it. But with that being said the book really discounts the importance of will power in quitting smoking, which is really insulting. I’m running on pretty much sheer will power right now, and I am absolutely miserable. The other thing is the cold turkey thing, that might be the best approach for some but some sort of nicotine replacement therapy (gum, patches, etc) might be a better fit for some. This book really takes a one-size-fits-all approach, and it certainly seems to have worked for many people and I am happy for them, but I don’t think I’m one of them. I am seven days smoke free, sure, but at this point I envy the dead.

Sara Monica oh wow! I smoked a few drags on the day I commented on this, but now I couldn’t care less for a cigarette! I sing and the cigarettes ruined my voice. So happy to be free! I feel as though I am already a non smoker and my voice is healing. How is your quit going?

Good review. I think in your next review it's worth mentioning that it's better to read the whole book or listen to the whole audio book and most importantly that to carry on smoking until you have finished the book. That will eliminate the fear of starting to read the book itself.
@hannahmitchell876 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your words of encouragement! I think I was a little naive in thinking the book would have all the most positive effects. Still find my mind wandering to cravings & feel at times like I'm doing the 'Willpower Method' more than Easy Way. It's still far easier than my first solo attempt though. Allen Carr was a fantastic man!

In 2011 I tried for weeks to get into smoking, but I never made it. So, here I am, feeling good and healthy, not stinking like a bum, tasting the magnificent foods and drinks, and smelling my beautiful girls hair. Hats off to all of you who stayed on the path and managed to build an addiction. Respect.

Fear,,, that’s the beast isn’t it? I have quit several times, for about 6 months each with the help of patches. But always fell back into it. I know now that just quitting without feeding my body more nicotine, is the way to go. Fear is what has been keeping me from trying again, but I didn’t realize fear was the problem until today. I felt like I didn’t want to “go through “ that again. I appreciate your video, thank you. Fear is a liar. I really won’t be losing anything by quitting.

That fear can definitely cause us all kinds of problems with the quit process. I've made a couple of videos about this very thing if you ever need them :)

I read the book a couple years ago.. but wasn't sure I could do it.. didn't try.. I loved the book.. made perfect sense.. but what stopped me from trying then.. was.. I had lost a son to opiods.. just a few months prior (prob an excuse.. but I was dealing with so much mental pain). Anyway.. I'm reading the book again.. I'm going to do it this time.. but here's what's making me hesitant.. I started smoking at 14-15... I'm 57 now.. so I've smoked for over 40years.. 2 packs a day for the last 20, probably . I don't know how to be an adult without smoking.. do I? I realize I'm smoking.. and do not remember getting it out and lighting it.. I seem to do it automatically.. when driving, when watching TV or reading or whatever.. half the cigs I smoke I don't even remember lighting them.. on some occasions.. I will light a cigarette and realize there's already one lit.. it's crazy.. I guess ceremoniously throwing them out somewhere where I can't go back and get them would be the key.. why is that so frickin scary and hard to do??

I smoked for 712 years, then gave up by sealing my mouth up with a soldering iron. It was easy. Now all I have to give up is my exaggerating. In reality, I'm early on in the Allen Carr book. This morning I was low on tobacco, and when I read him say to keep smoking throughout the book, I went and got more. I can't say I was too sad about that. But as the book goes on, I can tell it'll have some effect, because it's obvious he's telling truths. In a week or so, I'll hopefully be an ex smoker.

Aron Bechiom i’m 34 and feel the same way. my boyfriend nags me constantly to quit. quit for 6 months, felt incomplete, took up vaping, quit that for a month. then started again. now i’m on day 2 and i really feel like i’m just having my identity stripped of me . i quit allll my other vices and would like just one vice in life. how did you get over it??!
@ti777a4 жыл бұрын
I’ve only smoked for 10 years. And that is still a problem for me....I don’t get it 40 years that was not my identity. It really is an identity crisis for some! Just know your not alone....a smoker does not have to be our identity...maybe think of ourselves as conquerors? I’m gonna try that....

guys making a video about Allen Carrs book who quite obviously hasnt used the method. This book is probably the most important insight into addiction out there. Read the book, follow the instructions and youll find it easy to quit. I know.

Chris Skoyles, how was the withdraw from Nicotine?!? I find myself trying to quit but i live with 2 smokers and have been around smokers my entire life! Smoking has been the DEVIL for me, and i have prayed that i can overcome the urge and live a longer life for my Children, they are my motivation to do EVERYTHING AND WOULD DIE IF THEY PICKED UP SUCH A NASTY, DISGUSTING HABIT. I honest to God feel better just cutting back from 2 packs a day, easy, to around a pack, and even that is wreaking havoc on my health and on my physical fitness. Picked up Allen's book and plan on reading it and aiming for that end-goal of NO CIGS!!!!!!!
@ChrisSkoyles6 жыл бұрын
For me they got tough but I worked on certain things to make them easier. Not everyone has the intense withdrawals but everyone can get through them no matter how they go through it. I have a video on my channel about quitting when other people around you are still smoking. It might be helpful to you. Wishing you every success on your journey!

it's awesome..i recommend the audio book...it was great, i would listen to actively, and stretch, but also while i was falling asleep...i think it worked on some sort of hypnotic level. smoked for a decade, about a pack a day for the last 5 years I've made about 10 serious attempts to quit. I finally listened to the whole book, and it just *clicked* had my last smoke 4 days ago.

How long would you say the craving last ? Or is it differrent for different people.
@ally114883 жыл бұрын
If you continue to have a mental craving days after the physical dependence abates (no more than a few days), you've not understood the book. I found you started to enjoy not smoking rather than obsessing over having a cigarette. It definitely feels like a liberation from a literally toxic marriage.
