Just discovered your channel... your banter is funny af; bet you'd make a good streamer. It's somewhat rare to see a content creator that isn't in Tokyo, so I'd love to see a vid on your thoughts on life in the smaller cities or the inaka.

Thanks for the kind comment and video idea, I have some inaka content planned! I got tired of all these 'influencers' just droning on and on about Tokyo so I wanted to make something different! Since you mentioned my banter, hidden lore about me; I used to stream (non games, just chatting) on twitch for 2 years but got burned out and couldn't use much time on it anymore because of work. KZbin let's me edit around my schedule instead, but I'd love to do some irl streaming in Japan in the future!

@@JustAnotherJapanChannel Very noice, sounds like there's some good stuff in the pipeline... I'll have to keep an eye out. I'd def tune in to some YT live; hopefully the latest bad actors don't make that impossible in the future.

I've seen the "don't eat on public transit" note on those lists a lot, and from what I've gathered that doesn't apply to shinkansen, where it's appropriate to buy a bento/snacks/drinks/etc to eat on your way. Just clean up after yourself and don't be noisy/messy and I don't think it's a problem. Maybe they just mean on the buses/subways but I wouldn't want people to misinterpret them and miss out on eating something for a really long ride!
@JustAnotherJapanChannel
@JustAnotherJapanChannel Жыл бұрын
There are some exceptions! Local trains are usually packed, so you wouldn't eat to bother people there. Some non shinkansen trains like limited express trains will allow it, just look for a tray in front of you! The same goes for busses, local busses in the city is a no but long haul express busses are OK! As long as there is a tray in front of you, you're clear to eat lol

Emil, this is 100% on point, as per usual. My husband and I went out for chankonabe during the May sumo tournament. Even as fat Americans, we could not finish the nabe AT ALL. The kind staff person who was waiting on us asked us about which shime we wanted (noodles or rice), and we simply said no, we could not finish any more food. Despite a few pieces of salmon and moyashi, we were not judged about leaving food. It was fine! My rule of thumb when traveling - to Japan or anywhere else - is to be mindful of what is going on around you. See what the locals are doing, and try not to stand out too much. In a mono-culture like Japan, you are going to stand out either way, but just being respectful and cognizant of your surroundings is a big step further than a lot of other tourists.
@JustAnotherJapanChannel

Thank you! Absolutely, I like your travel rule! Watch and learn from the locals and just try to be a normal respectful person. No need to worry about the small things!

I went to japan only once.(in March 2023) i also saw many japanese who don't finish their food(including a full table at a yakiniku ) but it's not the norm.
@JustAnotherJapanChannel
@JustAnotherJapanChannel Жыл бұрын
Yeah absolutely! It's only when you have all you can eat at yakiniku and get greedy grilling way too much, they like to punish you for it. If you paid for each plate of beef, you're of course free to leave as much as you'd like lol

Was at a Kyoto restaurant/bar that had a sign saying mottenai and you will be charged extra. The portions were huge and I was so stressed eating more than I could handle, left some but not a disrespectful amount. Passing another table on the way out and saw customer had left 3/4 behind. Could really use a mini-plate option, I think.

Exactly. If you serve people huge portions and shame then for not eating up, I call 'what the fuck'

It's a natural bodily function, let it rip. Kinda related, when a friend visited he dared me to rip one in osaka station and I thought the city noises would drown out the sound. I was wrong and at least 30 people turned to stare at me lol

My brother is a short rotund fella and it seemed like every Japanese that actually did pay attention were absolutely disgusted by him 😂😂😂. On the walk from harajuku back to Nishi-shinjuku we stopped at the volcom store for our friend to buy a jacket and my fatass brother popped a squat on the stoop outside and it was as if he had the plague 😂😂😂

Touching on the aspect of not finishing food. I would see some restaurants on social media that would serve *EXTRA THICC* Pork Katsu, egg, & rice. I know for a FACT my girl would be full just eating a quarter of it. In that case can I either force myself to finish hers as well or can we leave it as is without insulting the restaurant?
@JustAnotherJapanChannel
@JustAnotherJapanChannel Жыл бұрын
They are either not finishing it, or have an agreement with the owner from the start. I know a few very tiny women creators who do these giga portions and they either agreed upon takeaway before or just leave it. It is what it is

I thought the only two rules to care about is for the shoes and also don't be Johnny Somali. You have found your niche the anti-Jvlogger all you need now is to put ketchup on rice in a fancy sushi restaurant to complete the transformation. Just curious did you actively study Japanese while living in Japan or just picked up as you went or just learned from your wife and what level of proficiency are you. Keep them coming
