Another cost saving method is to “flip” your braid. You can do this yourself, but I have my favorite tackle shop do it. Basically, the process puts the line that at the bottom of the spool on the top of the spool. It’s like having new braid at a fraction of the cost. Thanks Salt Strong!

This is why I love and trust the insider club. You guys could easily not make it so well known how to conserve braid and reuse soft plastics, and in turn make more money in the short term in your tackle shop. But you constantly preach these cost saving ideas that help us. So rare these days.

That weedless shrimp rig and the fresh water hook is brilliant! A bass worm hook would probably work well too.

Great respooling ideas! My older reels still have the old 30 pound braid as backing. I never thought about end swapping the top shot. I learned what you call a Nub rig when I had a gulp swimming minnow on my redfish magic that pin fish attacked. I kept using it until I got back to the tackle box and caught a redfish and then a spanish. So I learned to safe them as well. Great video!

Thanks for sharing! I would guess the FG knot holds to mono the same as Fluoro?
@Saltstrong2 жыл бұрын
In all our testing it has been consistent. 💪
@InshorePursuitFL2 жыл бұрын
So I totally loved the fact you proved Mono is more abrasion resistant against fish like snook and tarpon that have sandpaper like teeth. But I would love to see you guys show a test to see the comparison against sharp objects like oysters/barnacles, or even fish like mackerel or barracudas that have sharper cutting teeth instead of sand paper like teeth. Would love to hear what you find or maybe you already have. Thanks again
@gisellesbikeseat Жыл бұрын
I know this is an old comment, but mono retains more strength with a nick in it than fluorocarbon does. So for sharp teeth, mono is still your best bet.

Great information and awesome video 🔥! I have to start doing this with my soft plastics. Question… all the tests Luke did ( fluoro vs mono ) was he doing the tests with Ande monofilament?
@Saltstrong2 жыл бұрын
Yes, he was using Ande mono to stay consistent unless otherwise specified. 💪

I’ve Texas rigged shrimp from the tail but run the shrimp further up the shank and out the bottom. I like the weedless way you use. Does leaving the hook under the shell affect hook up?

What was your reason for switching to spinning reels from bait caster? I grew up with spinning and all the guys I fish with in the Nor Cal delta fish with bait caster…is the main reason distance?

No matter how bad my lures get tore up I always keep mine and others just to bag them later based on similar colors and then melt and repour them Into whatever mold that I choose. I pick up alot of littered lures also just for this purpose and to also help do my part.

Only thing I dislike about frozen shrimp is they seem to break apart easy but still works great.

very true, they can if they weren't frozen while still fresh.

Great idea about using mono for leader. I re-use my old floro spools and put mono on them (they hold about 50-75 yards) instead of throwing them in the trash. < <

I worry about the men and women that make their living off the water. Let’s hope for them. If the hardheaded people in the White House would open the oil and natural gas lines--this would straighten out this mess.
