The last point you made about office politics I believe literally killed my father. Try to keep this to Cliff's Notes, but my dad had an older brother and they both served in Vietnam. My uncle was super likable but kind of a screw up so he always got work behind the front. My dad got sent to the front, got shot and lived with a massive scar for the rest of his life. Then, they both worked for the post office, in fact, my dad worked so hard and innovated so many things they still use them to get people's mail out faster, my uncle on the other hand became the postmaster of Pasadena (Calif.), got to go to Super Bowls and the 1994 World Cup, got promoted while my dad was stuck in his career. My uncle was more personable and my dad was just a workhorse who got things done. Dad developed an awful gambling habit that put me and my sister out of a home and ultimately the job he worked so hard at he lost because the gambling habit overtook him. On his deathbed the last thing he said to me is, "Son I love you, but nobody cared about me don't give everything you have away." Thanks Jennifer, cannot hear that lesson often enough I hope people take this stuff to heart.

Thank you for sharing your Dad’s story. It will help many who read it, and it sounds like he lived you very much in that he tried to protect you from a similar path. 💕

This also applies to school, working hard to get high marks but marks don't serve you if you genuinely are not interested in the topics you are getting high marks in.

Yes as an hourly worker, I’m not earning nearly enough even when working overtime hours. Anything less than 60 hours a week is financial suicide in our company and department. I’ve altered my output …. Like your quiet-quit references.

Habit #1 Eat in a way to maintain a normal weight (lose excess fat) and habit #2 exercise to get 150 minutes of medium intensity cardio per week. Byproduct, your mind works better, you look better and you are treated better. I know unfair but it is what it is.

My next video is non work related habits that make you more successful, and the first one is literally exercise. It isn't about losing weight even, it's for energy management and physical and mental health!

Thank you - I just needed to hear ANY of your videos right now to feel sane. I came home with frayed nerves and had to sit and let it sink in - it's just not normal or OK to be treated like this from a boss. I spent the weekend job hunting. I have to do it quietly and quick, as I am sure my boss would sabotage any offers I get. I can see how I made a few of these mistakes!! This is the second time I heard someone mention The Power of When. It really resonates that I am fighting my body's natural energy rhythm. I am tired of feeling like me and my body are at battle with each other. Excited to read it.

Would you be able to give some advice or do a video about this: With all the change happening in the world, my company lost a lot of people (good because most of them were toxic). So we hired alot of new people which I was hoping to start fresh with. But another coworker who has been with the company since the beginning is the most manipulative, gossipy, and slandering old woman I've ever known. She is very convincing, knows how to work people, and "knows it all" since she's been there so long. Problem is, she has it out for me and she is badmouthing me to the new people. I know it's her because she did this to me and other people throughout my time there, and has also had me convinced about other people in the past. She will talk to people like they are best friends and then turn around and make fun of them or gossip about them. I have tried confronting her in the past for trying to cause me trouble and she will just deny and avoid me. I am not a manager or supervisor but I do have a type of leadership role and it's usually other women with any kind of power that she will try to damage. The people she currently talks to the most have basically ostracized me and act like they are almost afraid of me. It's spreading quickly through the whole office. This woman is a very envious person, but she acts so friendly and helpful that people can't see through it. It took me a long time to see her game too because she has a good act. She is often in the bosses office in his ear and though the boss is a smart person, I'm not sure he sees it since she probably never did anything to him. He has even praised her for her work publicly in the past. He doesn't see that she is a poison to the place because she acts so helpful. I am good at my job and I think my boss likes me but I think he thinks she is maybe older and wiser and probably trusts her. Plus she is always in his office running her mouth. When she is talking to people if I join the group or discussion she will act annoyed and talks over me or interrupts me, which only further convinces me that she is out to get me. I have thought about talking about this with my boss but I'm afraid he won't believe me and will see me as the problem. She really is evil. What can I do?

I’ve lived this. If she is really fooling everyone, and I think from your description that she is, this lady is far too skilled for you to take on. I think she sounds like a narcissist or some other personality disorder. I suggest you either leave (which is a good option if you’ve been there for a while without a promotion or pay raise) or you need to learn not to react to her at all. Grey rock her. She thrives off the reaction and frustration you show. Stop feeding her with your emotions and she may turn her attention elsewhere. You definitely need to go to the library and get some books as well on how to manage these sorts of people. If it’s not time for you to leave your job yet, I can promise you this is not the first time you’ll discover thus type of person so arm yourself with knowledge. But above all - never ever react. Good Luck 🍀🍀🍀

Nutty question (maybe an idea for a video?): can you provide tips on considering or seeking a demotion? I’ve been CVP of a corp for a little over a year, and would like to be an individual contributor again. This would mean stepping down but it would also give me back my mental and emotional health. Appreciate any advice you can share. Thank you!

True... Those who gets ahead in their career are the most selfish, narcissist people around. They care more for themselves over the company and basically everyone else. Nice people just don't get ahead in life.

Apparently the office politics thing works the opposite way too. Im not even trying to get promoted but rly do just wana get my job done. My reward is no thanks for what i do get done and complaints about not working more. I wont go into detail but i work 40 (usually a bit more) and my job is one the company NEEDS done or no product goes out. Also im the only one in the position.

Is it ok to be totally transparent with your boss immediately after you make it to avoid it going higher up to my bosses boss? I ask because I'm in the workforce again after a long recovery from a severe illness. I'm starting a new career and want to get it right and be a good employee that is willing to be proactive and tke constructive criticism in stride.
