My wife's Rav was on the final month of the 7yr extended warranty of her car when the alternator and AC went out. That warranty was the best money I spent. The next three cars I bought all have extended warranty, I also negotiated the price down on all of them. One thing I learned from Chevy dude is negotiate every step of the process, price of the car, trade in, extended warranty and financing. It can be weary but worth it.

@@lakesideag Either you drive an import or have an old vehicle because on average about 12 percent of SVC price go to the insurance and the remainder is laid to the overhead, pay for building commissions, wages. And most people buy in and never use on average. Yes there are people who do come out ahead but those are outliers.

Thanks for the video. This year alone, my 2016 Tahoe had a failed trans and a/c. I spent thousands to get fixed because the warranty expired last November. I'm considering either selling it or getting a 3rd party warranty. I've read so many horror stories because these companies try to avoid covering claims. I don't which warranty company to trust.

Do not trust any third party provide of an extended service contract. These are not warrantees, only the manufacturer issues a warranty with the sale of a new vehicle. All third party ESCs are garbage. They all have small print designed to not pay claims. Always remember neither Chris Berman or Ice-T are your friends. Do you really care if Ice-T loves his cars? If you want an ESC, only buy one from the manufacturer. Those will actually pay claims.

My current car is a 2007 Mazda CX9. I purchased it in 2017 with 54K miles. Since the car was already 10 years old I purchased the dealer's Extended Warranty through Mazda. The cost of the contract was $1300. I have always purchased the warranty with every car that I have ever purchased. Most times the warranty went unused. This time I was extremely happy that I made the purchase. The warranty was 48 months, 48K miles. As it went I had another 8K left on the extended warranty when my water pump failed and dumped coolant into the engine. The dealer told me that I needed a new engine. I told them to go ahead since I had the extended warranty. As it turned out the warranty covered most of the new engine (they would not cover more than I had paid for the car and I had previously had some work done under the warranty.) I ended up with a rebuilt engine in my car and they provided a new loaner for me to use for at least a month. Glad I made that purchase.

They almost never pay for a reman engine. It’s always a junkyard used one. Look at the countless mechanics on KZbin that say this. They deal directly with the warranty companies, Chevy dude is not a mechanic and I wouldn’t expect him to know about the actually claims process as a mechanic

Back in 2006 I bought a used '97 f150 v6 2wd (totalled truck in 2014). I was dumb enough to pay an extra $400 for a Lubrico used car extended warranty. In 2008 the truck got this vibration but only between 80-100 kph, below or above that the truck ran fine. The warranty was their full coverage warranty which included electronics, AC and power train etc... I had the truck fixed (a weight had fallen off causing the driveshaft to become unbalanced.) for $220. When I went to make a claim on the warranty I was told that the drive shaft is not a part of the powertrain. After multiple calls to them and getting the same BS answer I asked the guy on the phone that if the drive shaft is not part of the powertrain then how exactly does the power get to the rear differential from the transmission??? The guy just told me to F-off and they would no longer take my calls and they blacklisted my account. Lubrico??? hmm the only thing the "Lubricoed" was $400 outta my wallet. I have never bought another warranty since.

I had a similar experience with a 2018 Mustang GT 6sp manual, I purchased new with a 3yr extended warranty. In 2021 my shifter broke off and I took it to the dealer who told me the shifter was not covered. I disputed that until I was near blue in the face and they staunchly stood by their story. My luck with warranties runs about 50%. It seems most times I bring a car in for repair under full coverage bumper to bumper the dealer has some BS explanation that the repair isn’t covered. Ya I’m fed up with warranties but what are you going to do? You can’t go without them because your setting yourself up for more expense just by the small stuff it covers. I think it’s all a scam just like back in the old days with the added cost for undercoat, what a joke and a rip

i am an expert in Vechicle service contracts. 99.9% of the "coverage" being sold over the phone is no better than toilet paper. They will actually lie to you when selling you the garbage. One big factor very few buyers even realize is a big factor is who is the reinsurance provider on the product you are buying. Many are not reinsured and are literally worthless. Florida residents have an advantage because warranty coverage are considered an instrument of insurance so it's much harder to sell garbage warranties in Florida. i like Zurich personally.

I've sold/financed cars & trucks for 35yrs. I learned a lot about dealerships. There three things that will make your life a whole lot easier when it comes to Vehicles: Never Buy New......Never Buy Extended Warranties......Most importantly never go to a Dealership for anything.....The best way to think when you do walk into a dealership is "Mafia" (Ironically many are Mob owned) every single facet of these companies are to skim as much cream from you as the can and leave you gutted. Want a real extended warranty....Put the money an extended warranty would have cost in a separate bank account. Chances are if you bought a good car to begin with, you may never even use it.

He is 100% Correct about the average cost of a repair at a dealership see the garage rips you off just like the sales department then charge you a $120 for 5 minutes of work right off the bat. Average cost of a diagnostic at a car dealership is $120 and they charge you theoretical hours if the computer says the job takes 3 hours to do the job and they have a really good mechanic who does it in 2 you're still get billed for 3 and the average dealership is charging right around $75 a hour in labor.

@lacherokeedecaceria1263 Yes, I'm a 100% sure. Yes, I know you buy your tools. But you don't buy them all once you buy them over time. the company that I work for their mechanics. Get a tool allowance to help pay for those tools. The company also has a laptop that runs diagnostics on their trucks. it don't take the more than 5 minutes to find out what's wrong with the trucks. And they don't take them or to 5 minutes to clear the codes and check them again. It's not worth a 125 to $200 to check f****** codes on a car.

@lacherokeedecaceria1263 Besides that, I use a local garage to fix my cars. I don't trust dealerships.he charges around $50 an hour less, and he doesn't charge me theoretically hours. He charges me what take, and there's never a diagnostic feed on the bill. I have been going to him for over 30 years? Why? Because he doesn't rip me off. Besides that modern Vehicles for nothing but big computer. Information center on the dash is nothing but a laptop. The manufacturers could put the software in that laptop (information center) On your dash it could read all the codes itself. if they did that the garage couldn't rip you off.

@@robertscott305 wrong !! The computer tells you the trouble code but it’s up to the mechanic to find out why that code popped up . Broken wire , corroded connector , shorted wire , bad sensor ,bad ECU etc etc etc etc….. Many people think it’s as simple as plugging in the OBD scanner and presto ! It tells you what is exactly wrong. There are technicians/mechanics and there are part swappers that like to guess at what failed and they use the customers money to do so . I used to work at a local parts house many many years ago and you’d be surprised at how many people would come in and buy a part and 2 hours later buy another part or try to return the first part they bought because the mechanic sent them there , back and forth , back and forth until they guessed it right . Or many people would come in and buy hundreds or thousands of dollars because the mechanic said so . Basically rebuilding the entire system hoping that amongst all those parts the bad one was also replaced and the problem fixed.

The check engine light came on, so I called the dealership that I purchased the car from and made an appointment to have it checked. When they took my car in to check it from where I was standing, I could see my car. The mechanic brought this cabinet out. I'm assuming it had a desktop in it because I could see the keyboard and the monitor with a cable coming out of the side of it, he plugged in to my car, he hit a couple keys, walked over to me and said you're gas cap is bad You need a new one. He put a new gas cap on it. Punch to couple more keys. Put the cabinet away and hand me a bill for $140 to replace a gas cap. You're a bunch of thieves. Trade the impala on a 13 cruise. Now GM wanting to pay for Onstar so they told me they could run Diagnostics straight through the Onstar system. The dealership told me even though i'd start can run to diagnostic. I should allow them to run the diagnostic Just to make sure they're not wrong. No, just to make sure you can rip me off.

Had extended factory warranty on my vehicle. Problem was getting the dealer service to fix it. Had 5 things fixed at dealer under factory Warranty and each time it took 6 to 8 weeks to get the part and put it in. Warranty work gets shoved at the back of the line. But, when I had something fixed out of Warranty, it was 2 weeks tops to get it done. After extended research, I found that with warranty work, the dealer has to cross every T and dot every I, and doesn't get paid as much from warranty work as out of pocket, so are reluctant to do warranty work.

Depends on what vehicle you buy! Doug Demuro bought a Rover and paid $3,800 for extended warranty from Car Max. They ended up paying (I think) $21,000 in issues being repaired.

With WFH because of pandemic I'm not driving nearly as much. I got an oil change in Sept. 2020, I'm not even at 25% oil level. It's crazy. That's a good thing with being home more. Only get gas maybe once or twice a month. 👍🏽 Thanks for the video. I just purchased an extended exclusionary warranty on my Equinox yesterday! LOL! Good to know I was within the price range. Whew! 😅

I got a corvette 2016 Stingray about 3 months ago .. my warranty was about 5k$ .. I started feeling vibrations around 75-76 turns out I had a bad torque tube worth $3500 new .. they did furthur diagnosis and found out I have a burnt transmission and differential from my flex converter getting too hot.. that’s about another $6000… slap the labor on top of that $85hr and add the seals, gaskets, fluids… you tell me if insurance is worth it, Ill only have to pay 50$ deductible and 50$ a month.

We recently bought a newer Traverse Premier and we got a really decent 4 year warranty on it with a zero deductible no matter where we take it. And we’ve already had to fix the common Shift to Park problem, and a replacement LED tail light housing due to a bad seal allowing moisture to get in. Took it to McLuskey up here in Cincinnati and they’ve been great with it.

@randy74989

If you need an extended warranty then you have not done your research on the vehicle YOU should buy versus a bad vehicle. Don't pay upfront, save x$ per month in a savings account and when the OEM warranty runs out you will have plenty of $ in your savings account to pay for service, not at a dealer but an Independent mechanic that does repairs on your specific vehicle. And you must research the Independent mechanics' as well before you buy your specific vehicle. Insurance companies do not lose money on extended warranties because the upfront cost covers 13% for repairs and 87% for overhead, marketing, and profit for the insurance company and dealers.

I purchased a 2013 fiat abrath right out of the showroom. I also purchased a extended warranty with the car lifetime warranty unlimited mileage and for as long as I own the car . Best 3.200 Dollars I spent the car is ten years old and still being serviced at the dealership. I only pay 100.00 for anything they do the car needed a new ac system the whole thing and only paid one hundred. They are always trying to get me to buy a new car Chrysler doesn't offer those type of warranties anymore

So I purchased a Chevy platinum protection plan when I bought my 2019 Corvette in February of 2020. Last week I traded it in for an Audi RS5 and contacted my dealer to cancel the contract. Since I was still under the 3yr 36,000 miles warranty am I entitled to get the full purchase price back on the contract? The contract was for an additional 3 years and total miles was 48,000 with a $100 deducitble. Cost of the contract was $1,355.

I learned my lesson a long time ago. The transmission on my Impala would not shift. It turned out that the modulator valve was bad. EXTERNAL PARTS WERE NOT COVERED. When I worked for a Ford dealership, warranty work was always given as punishment to the out of favor mechanic. I buy cheap cars now. When they break, I just throw them away.

i dont hate the idea of the extended warranty, just every time i've ever needed it, the amount of work that goes into trying to figure out a way for the dealership to tell me it's not covered is ridiculous. example... transmission started acting up. Yay! covered under the power train warranty. but wait...the transmission itself is fine. the problem is a computer chip inside the transmission...not covered... sorry, thank you, come again.

sounds like Global warranty says it covers things like a intake manifold .. Intake manifold gives out they tell me it is not covered due to carbon... Being a diesel owner carbon is a common problem in canadian weather along with emissions. From what I get from that is if I deleted the emissions they would of covered it.

I will not own a Ford because of how they handled a Warranty. One dealership misdiagnosed my problem as clogged cats. And held my vehicle till Friday night to push me out. As he is pushing me out.. he knows it sounds rough.. and tells me the computer is relearning..( In a manual transmission truck).Because any other way and I would have been right back telling them they didn't fix it. Another Ford service manager knew what I was describing and wouldn't even look at it. Another service manager diagnosed the problem as me not buying it from them. Then when I did find a dealer to fix it. 5 to 6 weeks to swap a motor. ( Tick Tick Tick) The other part of Warranty work is that the mechanic hates it. Because it does not pay like regular walk in. They really hate returns of a botched repair. Then the dealer fights with the manufacturer sending pictures and recommendations back and forth bickering about how the repair should be done. (Tick Tick Tick) The other caution on warranties is. That If you have a summer only car. It will break down at the beginning of its usable season. Then sit most of that season at the dealer waiting on whatever authorization or parts. Chewing up whatever time you have to drive it. And notice any other problem. Or even if they fixed it right. They will sit your car running the clock out on a summer vehicle. In my example of my own Ford experience. Watch out for the band aid or distraction repair. Where they fix a simpler problem that really wasn't. Because they dread the real repair. And don't want to do the real job. That they are hoping you'll deal with it long enough to expire the warranty. NOEL Ford of Kittanning Pa. R.I.P. As You went under anyway Murray Ford of Dubois PA. Courtesy Ford of Altoona PA. I just refinanced my car. The new refinanced loan comes with gap and an extended warranty that covers mechanical repairs. My engine is blown and I was gonna have it towed to the dealership and use that warranty to pay for the engine and repairs. Would the dealer take a warranty that they didn’t give ? Would the warranty company pay for my new engine and labor? The deductible is only $100.

If I buy an extended warranty on a brand new 2023 truck lets say its a 7/75 and I have a 3/36 from the manufacture does that give me a full 10 yrs warranty in TOTAL and 75k in miles. Or does it just replace the current warranty and give me a straight 7/75. Thanks...

First of all thank you very much for this video and many you have published. I wish I had some inputs like this when I bought my first car!! There is a lot of demand for new cars, especially with the "chip shortage". Most dealer say they don't have many vehicles on their lots. Consumers are expected to place an order and wait, just like they did for Tesla. It is a "seller's" market for cars, so the dealerships have an upper hand here. Is the "chip" shortage real? Is there a room for negotiation when you have to order and wait? Looking forward for a response!! Thanks again!!

Dealers in my area are selling at MSRP on most ordered vehicles. Special vehicles that are in high demand still may command a premium. The chip shortages are real. Automobiles use about 40% of the micro chips. Taiwan Semiconductor had a fire. It took several months to get back into production.

Got $800 knocked off from the total cost of the extended warranty and got it for $1,500 total on my '19 ford Fusion. Bought my Fusion used with 73k miles and with a good record of maintenence. I've had the car for 18 months and used the warranty twice. First claim @84k miles (powertrain, drive axle, heating/ac, and electrical issue) was under a year of ownership and it would've cost me over $3,300 for parts and labor. And most recent claim @93k miles (flexplate/flywheel asy) was this month for a total of $2,170 for parts and labor. My deductible for both claims was $200 each. My warranty definitely paid itself off. I live in California and worked as a car salesman for a couple of years. I understand how crucial it is to get a dealer warranty, if possible/permitted, on a used car. *if the car and warranty price is right of course*
