Thank you so much for this video. I've only been diagonsed with PCOS in the last few years, even though I've had symptoms for so much longer than that, and I definitely would have sought treatment/help a lot sooner had this video existed back then (before birth control, I would only have a period two to four times a year.) Also, really grateful for the explanation for #5. When I was first diagnosed, I was told I would not be able to have kids. I had to tell my partner and for almost two years we adjusted to the idea that I couldn't have kids. I went to another doctor for something else, started talking, and she was surprised to hear I had been told that and explained that PCOS just means it can be more difficult to conceive. It still blows my mind. Long story short, I'm so grateful that you've done this video because A) it's the clearest explanation of PCOS I've ever heard, B) other women might not have to go through what I went through and C) I now know that I need to watch out for endometrial cancer, a risk that no one has ever told me about ever. So again, THANK YOU!!!! Love your channel!

When i was 16 i didn't get a period for 6 months and was diagnosed with PCOS honestly i googled it and had a certain amount of verbiage i knew to say, but didnt really understand what it ment. Thank you so much for this video. I dont go to the Doc as much as I should, and I get too shy to ask all the questions and this video was just such an amazing way to learn about myself. I was diagnosed with PCOS right as the pandemic hit so my Dr’s were not able to fully explain to me what was going on, it was more like do you want to be pregnant right away? No okay here’s some birthcontrol we will see you in 6 months to check your insulin levels and I was like whaaat why?? So anyway thank you!

I was diagnosed at 16 and I can honestly say I never had any proper explanation. All I was told was that it was the reason I was overwheight and had irregular periods. Also that there was a possibility I would be infertile. I was given two options, loose weight or go on birth control. 13 years later I have two healthy kiddos (the first of which was a surprise) and Im still trying to educate myself.

I had 1 period a year. I tried to conceive for 12 years knowing I had PCOS since I was 17. At 31, finally got pregnant. Miscarried twice. Had a baby at 32. Had weight loss surgery at 34. Had triplets at 35. There is hope for fertility with PCOS. Weight loss of 10% of your body weight is key! I was 320lbs. I lost 30 and got pregnant for the first time ever! It was hard, but if I did it with my 0% self control, you can too. Hugs

I was diagnosed 18 months ago at the age of 35, but ‘knew’ I had it for much longer and was avoiding confronting it. My doctor was really helpful and my main concern was not having regular periods which isn’t good because not bleeding can lead to developing abnormal cells in your uterus. I was put on the progesterone only pill and persevered for 6 months until the headaches and constant spotting got too much. I decided to come off it and read some scientific research on supplements that help with PCOS. Here’s what I discovered (note: this is what I read in medical papers and it has worked to improve many of my symptoms. You should always follow proper medical advice and do your own research on reputable cites): - Cutting out (or majorly down) on dairy was one of the best things I’ve ever done. I did it before my diagnosis to help with migraines but it has also stopped some of my excessive hair growth and vastly improved the clarity of my skin. Dairy has been linked to ovarian cancer, but not enough research exists yet to fully determine how far this is true. - Taking Myo Inositol has been life changing in terms of my periods. I have a regular cycle for the first time in years, which also means my fertility has improved. Myself and my husband don’t want children, but if you read the testimonies of women who have taken this you will hear about some successes. It’s worth a try and can help alongside other prescribed medications. - Other supplements that improve the symptoms of PCOS are folic acid, zinc, vitamin b complex, N-acetyl cysteine, and L Carnitine. The first three help regulate periods and improve ovary/egg health and the last two help with insulin resistance. - Eat more protein and cut down on carbohydrates. This is good advice for most people, but anyone with PCOS should definitely consider doing this. Carbohydrates turn to sugar/insulin in the body and get stored more easily as fat. Upping my protein and actually eating more (just less carbs) helped me lose 9kg in five months. I wasn’t massively over weight but I was on the boundary according to BMI charts. I feel more like I’m in my own body now and have more confidence and energy. It was more about improving my self esteem than trying to get a ‘perfect’ body. - For hair loss, use rosemary oil on the scalp and leave on for a while before washing. Massage your scalp well and use Castor oil on the ends of your damp hair before drying. Also, sleep in a silk bun or equivalent to prevent breakage. I was shocked how much healthier my hair got overnight. - Other skin tips are to use jojoba oil at night. It’s not greasy and mimics the skins natural sebum. This means your getting moisture and softness, without risking a breakout. For spots, use salicylic acid and try to use a moisturiser that contains HA. Again, avoid dairy and eat plenty of leafy greens (spinach, kale etc). - For my mental health I take sertraline, as prescribed by my doctor, and I also take lions mane mushroom to improve my mood as well as making sure I get out for fresh air whenever I can. Sorry that this comment has gone on forever, but I really hope this advice might help someone : ) I didn’t do all of this overnight, I implemented things over a few years and slowly built up to my routine now. If you change or add one thing to your lifestyle once a month, think what you’ll achieve in a year. Be safe, be healthy and be happy with who you are ❤️

There is total hope. I was told PCOS + early onset menopause at 27. Mom went menopause at 36. Cried and cried. I got married and we moved into a no kid apt building. Shock of all shocks on my 30th Birthday I found out my sinus infection was a baby. Terrible painful pregnancy complete with bleeding cramping piercing pain and bereft and medicine to keep early contractions away and lots of progesterone suppositories. Delivered a baby boy at 32 weeks with RDS. He sepnt 2 weeks in NICU and need surfactant meds to help his lungs. Today at 24 you would not know. Going forward 7 miscarriages all at different stages. 42 while getting ready for a Christmas party at our house I had my head in the kitchen sink at the smell of coffee. Yep I was pregnant again. Didn't get bothered it wouldn't be around long. Sad but history speaks. Gloriously nope I delivered the little guy at 34 weeks. My boys are 12yrs apart. I feel so lucky to be blessed with both of them. Oh and by the way menopause didn't happen until 52.

My gynaecologist and endocrinologist both said it’s a misnomer. You can have PCOS without actually having polycystic ovaries. It should be called hormonal metabolic disorder.
@cabin_quilt

I got diagnosed with PCOS even though I only had anovulation and hyperandrogenism. In the ultrasound, my ovaries looked completely normal. And the wild thing is, hyperandrogenism **causes** anovulation. So it's kinda just "too much androgen" disorder, at least from what I can understand. Maybe it would have a better name if we had any idea of what actually causes it, rather than just naming it for its most obvious symptom.

@@cabin_quilt You only have to have two of the three criteria. My mother had cysts and Amenorrhea. She was retroactively diagnosed after my diagnosis because she had surgery as a teenager and they informed her that her ovaries were full of cysts. They said they'd removed most of both ovaries due to all of the cysts. I meet all three criteria, though I am hirsuit without excess androgens. My diagnosis is Androgen-Sensitive PCOS. At diagnosis, my ovaries were full of cysts but my androgen levels were high-normal. My symptoms all started at puberty. I'm 47. I was diagnosed at 30 despite years of doctor comments and random testing. As for cysts, they can come and go, and according to studies, fertility improves with age. I haven't had cysts for years now. As I started ovulating more normally in the mid-30s, they began to disappear. My Repro Endo explained that successful ovulation and total lack of ovulation can cause the absence of cysts. When ovulation occurs, it looks like someone set off a bomb in there. My Repro Endo had me come back when she thought "should" ovulate (based on the size of a couple of the bigger follicles) because she didn't think I could (I was loaded with cysts but also having some months with signs of fertile cervical mucous, so she wanted to document success or failure. She said she counted 36 in the right one). When she caught it on ultrasound two weeks later, my right ovary looked like someone tore it open. The cyst count had dropped by about a third which is what is supposed to happen when we ovulate according to her (you don't mature one egg at a time, usually, and the one that matures basically blows the others away when you ovulate). She was a fertility specialist. Talking to her was amazing.
@delennamachoo
@delennamachoo 3 жыл бұрын
You can also have PCO without having PCOS, though my Repro Endo said if you have the syndrome, she can usually find a reason why you don't currently have cysts. We don't always have cysts. They absorb if we're not attempting to (and failing) to ovulate, and they're also destroyed when we ovulate successfully.

@@delennamachoo man your doctor sounds great. I saw an ob/gyn who was this older eastern european woman who didn't really explain anything. She just kinda gave me a prescription for birth control and told me to take it. I was especially hesitant to go to any fertility doctors because I'm a trans guy (not on hormones, often just pass as female), so I don't want to get pregnant and don't mind more masculine traits caused by hyperandrogenism. I didn't bring this up to my doctor though, because she didn't seem particularly well-versed on trans issues. Maybe an endocrinologist would be better equipped to handle my situation than an ob/gyn? You sound a lot more informed on PCOS than I am haha. I'm not particularly sure why I had normal-looking ovaries. All I know is I would go 11 months without a period, and when I did it was catastrophically heavy bleeding, pretty rough cramps on the first day, and bleeding that lasted for like 7 whole days. I was about 6 months into the 11-month "dry season" when I got that ultrasound. I'm lucky it got caught pretty early, I stopped having periods at 19 and got diagnosed this year at 21. It was actually this video that got me to finally bite the bullet and see a doctor about it!

I knew a person that happened to! Doctors need to stop telling women that it makes them infertile. That's wonderful! I'm really glad you were able to conceive naturally! I bet you felt rather proud. I know I would have! 😄 And I'd also love if Mama Doctor Jones did a video on Endometriosis! It runs in my family and I already suffer from endometrial polyps and cervical ectropians, so I'd be really interested to learn more! Especially since I can't visit my gynecologist right now for obvious reasons. 🤣

After 8 years of not having a period- I finally got a diagnosis of PCOS because I was able to finally drive myself to a doctor to get it checked out and had the time for all the bloodwork and stuff. Before I could drive, my mother never thought it was a big enough deal to get me checked out despite going through high school and college without no periods. My doctors on campus informed me that I need to go get checked out due to risk of cancer but that never phased my mother. Sometimes people don't have your best interests at heart. Love yourself enough to get checked out when you can.

Anything I asked her she said was normal. Turns out I have pcos, endomitriosis. And because of the endomitriosis my intestines were fused to my abdominal wall. Went through something similar, I went to the doctors as a young teen, about 6 months a yer my periods started, they were normal for about 4-6 months and then started to slowly get later and further apart, until I was skipping months, my periods would always leave me in excruciating pain, vomiting for a day or two at the start, I went to the doctors, my sister also experienced the same thing and so did my mother, but the doctor told me because I was young they couldn't test for it and they wouldn't anyway because my symptoms were "normal", I always though other people became sick with their periods, taking a few days out their lives to live in bed, turns out I have PCOS, I'm on the pill constantly now and haven't had a period in over a year, I hope one day I will be able to have a family. It really sucks and feels so awful to be feeling so unwell to be told "it's normal", because you know deep down it's not normal

I went through a similar experience, but with a mole on my leg. Showed all the symptoms of melanoma but my doc at the time said it was nothing to worry about . But I was naive & instead of seeking another doc, I blew it off 5 years later I had a hard lump growing in my groin, after biopsy it came back positive for melanoma. At this point it was stage3, if she would have taken it seriously in the beginning it would have been kept under control a bit better. Just sucks but this shows the importance of getting second opinions when you know in your gut something is wrong.

I feel this now. I've always had super painful periods. When I was a teen my mom thought I might have endometriosis but the dr said "you're too young to test for that". I went on the pill and it helped a lot but now it's effects are starting to dull. I had a cyst last summer and tried to explain my symptoms and concerns to a NP but she brushed everything off and said they don't test for anything ubless I undergo surgery ???

Akia that was my first gyn’s “treatment” since I wasn’t trying to get pregnant. Took 6-7 years and woke pretty large cysts and chronic pain to get a gyn to do more in depth testing (different practice). I also have endometriosis and what they thought was going to be a 45 min laparoscopic surgery turned into 2.5 hrs. I was young and a push over but as I’ve gotten older if I don’t get a doctor who is willing to work with me I find someone else.

Don't worry or stress about any of it - do your best to live your life the way you want it to and take the challenges on as you meet them. F ex: don't stress about infertility if you want kids - you don't know how easy or hard it will be, and it's most likely not something you need to be concerned about yet anyway :) You are beautiful and lovely just the way you are - pcos doesn't change that :)

@@aena5995 hi! ☺️ I’m not a medical professional, so I really don’t want to give any advice about medication. Also, our cases seem very different - I don’t have any cysts atm, only the other symptoms (hirsutism, weight-issues and irregular periods), and so I don’t know anything about how the recommended medication affects your cysts. If your doctor recommends something, it’s often a good idea to listen or maybe get a second opinion? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t take medication because my symptoms are very manageable without interference, and both the pill and metformin gave me really bad stomachaches... so our situations are pretty different and I can’t give you any advice unfortunately 😕 other than maybe seek out a second opinion if you don’t trust your current doctor’s judgement on this 🤷🏻‍♀️ I hope it works out for you 🥰

I was diagnosed with pcos at 24 when I was trying to conceive. It took 6 years and 7 clomid cycles to conceive my first baby. I had a 4x rare form of cancer NH Lymphoma stage 1x with cervical cancer stage 1 solely in my cervix about 15 months after my baby was born. Fought and won my cancer battle in 6 months. 4 years later I conceived my 2nd baby with the help of a fertility endocrinologist. Chemotherapy had wreaked havoc on my hormone production. I used gonal-f injections to achieve ovulation this time around with IUIs. Scar tissue from my tumor kept my cervix from functioning as it should with funneling at 28 weeks, followed by complete bedrest, followed by a cesarean delivery because scar tissue had sealed the remaining section of my cervix shut. It functions fine for menstruation but not for delivering a baby. Pcos is definitely not an end all diagnosis for sure. Just takes time. Following chemotherapy though I no longer had extensive cysts in my ovaries, but my other criteria symptoms remain. Up until I got pregnant again my cycles were also regular, but shorter due to short luteal phase defect. My second baby was born 10 weeks ago, and I couldn't be any more blessed in my life. My OBgyn calls my family her miracle family because against all the odds I'm still here and my family is continuing to grow and thrive despite all that I have been through.

I was diagnosed at 11, though largely because my periods were so severe, it was kind of obvious at the time. There's also a family history of it on my mother's side. It is highly genetic, and even if your family doesn't like to talk about it, I guarantee at least some of your female relatives have it too. My best advice is make sure you have a good gynecologist, and pay attention to your body. You know it better than anyone else, and if something feels wrong or weird, say something. It's better to ask too many questions than too few, and it's good to learn how to "read" your own body (i.e. have good bio-feedback), so you know what is and is not normal for you. It can help you catch potential problems early, and help put your mind at ease for things that are not problematic. Besides that, feel free to ask people for advice around here too. I know we're all strangers, but this is a nice and helpful community, and there's a lot of people here who also have PCOS. I was diagnosed young like you, but back in the early 90s (I'm turning 40 next month, so old fogey >_

Didn’t go to a gynecologist for over 5 years and stopped having cycles because the two I went to were so incredibly rude. The first one told me I didn’t have PCOS because I was having cycles at the time and said my testosterone was normal so I just must come from a “hairy family” & and the other gynecologist told me, after losing weight, to not get excited because, “you’re never going to be skinny” Took many years and many doctors to finally treat me with compassion and a wonderful gynecologist and dermatologist who insisted that while my levels may be in the normal range, they were clearly not normal for me.

I was very disheartened and became depressed for a few months after.

This is almost my exact story. First gyno was a man that I went to for over a decade. I asked him once about PCOS and he just said, “You don’t have that.” Moved out of state and was recommended to an amazing gyno, she actually pulled up a chair and just sat with me talking for 30 minutes about my body and my history and then said, “Has anyone ever told you that you have PCOS?” I cried so hard in the office with her from relief of finally being diagnosed. She recommended intermittent fasting and it has made all the difference for me. So glad to see we are not alone!

One woman I went to was literally giving me an ultrasound, told me I had cysts on both my ovaries and fibroids but still told me I didn't have it and that none of those things were anything to be concerned about. I tried finding another female gyno and she told me I didn't have pcos because I needed to get more tests done. Even though I've had horrible periods my whole life and battled cysts since I was a teenager. I wasn't diagnosed until 2-3 years ago by a male PA because he actually listened to me. I thought women would be more considerate when another woman confides in her about issues like this, but apparently not. At least in the medical field.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 5 years ago, and my GYN has not been very helpful from the start... She told me my weight was a problem (I wasn't even in the "overweight" category at the time), she told me BC pills were the only solution, and she told me that I would never be able to have children. Since then, she has brushed off concerns of my periods disappearing again telling me to "enjoy it" and has failed to offer any advice on what may be causing me pain or how to help it. Well informed doctors are few and far between, and seem to be nowhere in my area... Thanks for another great video, MDJ - it's going to help a lot of people ❤️

Sounds like your doctor is just brushing you off with your concerns. I'm sorry this is happening. I've had it done with me before especially when I was pregnant. 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with PCOS myself. But with a brand new doctor that is taking me very seriously. I hope you are able to find a new doctor. You might need a different medication (with higher levels) or just someone completely NEW to look at you.

When I was 18 I got married and started a pill that “set off” my pcos because it had high amounts of testosterone. I put on 30kg within 6 months. I did go on to have 3 children although my journey included 6 pregnancies including a stillbirth. My pcos has caused me so much weight gain, chronic ovary/abdomen pain, and abnormal facial hair. Finally after so many struggles I had a gastric bypass last year and I have lost 63kg. My pcos is now “in remission” (?) and I hope and pray it stays away for good. Big hugs to anyone suffering. This is a huge battle

@@estelerundil4497 For me it was found when my chocolate cyst (a blood filled cyst caused by the endometriosis bleeding) had grown so large over the years of having periods that it was painful. They used 'the wand' ultrasound, or an internal type vaginally and were able to detect said cyst. Especially after my second Er visit when it had torsion/needed emergency surgery. But even as it was suspected and the docs said it was 99% likely the cause, they cant diagnose Endo with out testing the tissue. So surgery really is the only way. Laproscopic and I was down for a few days, put on birth control to keep more from forming, and so far have been good. This was in 2015 or 16. Really you need some sort of biopsy to correctly diagnose as endo sadly, but there are easy ways to do it with out patient surgery if you and your OB suspect it as the cause. Its pretty lucky if youve never had complications from it. Mine caused such severe periods I would be out of school during them and couldnt stand on my own sometimes.

As a trans guy I really appreciate that most of your educational videos aren't heavily gendered because reproductive health causes loads of dysphoria for most trans guys. This means the topic is often avoided at the cost of preventable diseases/infections/etc. While talking about and visualizing the reproductive system we so desperately don't want isn't enjoyable, your videos make it more bearable ♥️

@Lee I hope you realize the irony of your statement considering the scientific research that has gone into explaining why trans people are a thing. Trans people aren't "science deniers", we KNOW our bodies are male/female but our brains aren't and since you can't change the brain, we change our bodies so we can live happily and authentically as ourselves. Would you also call someone with anorexia who thinks they're fat despite being 80 pounds a "science deniers"? No you'd get them the appropriate help and treatment. Same thing for trans people. Don't comment on something you clearly know nothing about

I was dismissed so quickly I didn’t have the opportunity to explain my concerns and (I won’t have said this to them) I was massively struggle with an eating disorder. I had to beg my doctor to test me. I’m a healthy weight and was told that I “don’t look like I have PCOS” at the time I had been trying to conceive for a year and had no luck. My mother also has a history of PCOS and I had hair growth and irregular periods. Once my doc finally tested me she called me shocked that I had it cause I don’t fit the look. Started me on fertility treatments that I did for months only to find out the pharmacy was accidentally giving me an antihistamine instead of clomid and didn’t realize until I had taken several rounds (not sure how that happened). After that I was defeated and pretty much gave up for a year or so. Then about two months ago I started roughly tracking my cycle with ovulation strips and then boom pregnant. I just found out about two weeks ago. Now I’m almost six weeks. I’ve been leaving messages at my OB office for a week and a half trying to make an appointment and no answer 🤦🏻‍♀️ seems like it’s time to look for a new doc.

Vora_Vixen honestly you’re right I wish I would have. I not sure legally what my rights where but if I had known more I probably would have. The guy who owns the pharmacy was the one who told me about the mistake and he was super embarrassed and felt awful. He apologized over and over again and offered to make that prescription free for as many months as it was messed up. So I guess because he handled it so well and really worked to make it right I didn’t consider it. They also called and informed my doctor and apologized to them as well. The pharmacy has been around a long time and they are very reputable in my town so I really believe it was an honest mistake. They said the name look alike and they are stored next to each other but due to that mistake happening they updated their storage and checking system. So hopefully it at least made it so no one else has that problem.

All my pain, and mental instability arpund my period just stopped. And I was able to get pregnant. I had a healthy pregnancy, but started eating some dairy and gained a lot of weight. All my symptoms had come back, so I'm currently off dairy again, and the pain is already gone and I got my period back. this could just be me. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is the best explanation for PCOS that I've ever seen. I developed PCOS symptoms in 8th grade, after having had regular, predictable cycles for 4 years (started my period on the early side, about age 11). I was a multi-sport athlete who was gaining weight and could not lose it. At the same time, my cycles started to get gradually less predictable and heavier. My mom brought it to the attention of our family doctor, who just said to diet and exercise. Again, I was an athlete, so I was already doing that with no effect on my weight gain. We continued to bring up my symptoms for years, with the doctor calling me a liar because there's no way I could be dieting and exercising without losing weight. That's not a fun thing for a teenager to go through. By the time I finished my senior year of high school, I weighed 280 lbs (I'm 5'9"), and my cycles were absolutely unpredictable. So I move out to college without much change. I was having mood issues, no energy, and memory problems, which is exactly what you want in your first semester in college. The final straw was a "cycle" that lasted for 3 months straight. I went to the free women's clinic on campus, who said that I needed to schedule an appointment with a gynecologist (I did not yet have one) because it was beyond what they could do. I went to an amazing gynecologist back home who knew immediately what it was and ordered an ultrasound. Diagnosis: PCOS, the exact thing we had been saying to the primary care doctor. It was almost 7 years from onset of symptoms to diagnosis. I was referred to an endocrinologist as well, and was diagnosed with insulin resistance. It's been a bumby road the last almost decade since I was diagnosed, but things are definitely so much better now with doctors who realize that PCOS is actually a thing. My family left that primary care office (and therefore choosing to drive 30 minutes to the next town to go to a new office) due in part to her treatment of me through all of this. Although it has definitely made me much more active in my own healthcare now. Thank you again for this amazing video.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 in 1987. At the time, I had stopped have periods and I was hormonally cycling like I was bipolar. I was going between road rage and being able to get out of bed. I also grew shoulders like a football lineman. I did not have a weight problem until my thyroid went in my mid thirties. I was actually an endurance athlete. I was put on birth control to help regulate my hormones. It actually helped quite a bit. What is really interesting with me is when I was 12, I was put into a hospital for my blood sugars, they thought that I might be type 1 diabetic, but instead turned out I was hypoglycemic instead. I have some drs that believe that I have been prediabetic since I was 12. I am now heading to 50 and have been having the more ‘typical’ symptoms of PCOS. I was on birth control with the higher hormone level for 21 yrs. I actually went into Biochemistry because of my hormone issues. I have been looking at the anterior pituitary gland for the dysfunctional break down of primary hormones. I actually have talked with women ten to twenty years older than myself and what they went through is just mind boggling, every year our understanding of the human body increases. One thing I have learned over the years, is the more I learn the less I realize I know.

PCOS haver here. I was trying to conceive and wasn't being listened to about my period. Finally I had a blood test and ultrasound and was found to have PCOS. They put me on metformin without insulin resistance and I had awful side effects. Finally switched doctors and they gave me clomid and I conceived with twins. The right doctor is important. I also am not heavy nor do I have abnormal hair growth etc. Only main symptoms were missed periods and infertility. 👍you know your body so if someone isn't listening get a second opinion!! ❤❤

I got diagnosed with pcos at 22, after no periods for 6 months, (can imagine how many pregnancy tests I took!) I got into an argument with the nurse because she was adamant I was pregnant because I wasnt overweight, however I knew something was wrong, eventually after doing another test that came back negative she finally referred me to the hospital! Recently due to pain I have had more scans done and the nurse was pretty shocked by what she saw she said I had alot more cysts than when I was first diagnosed? So yeh then left to it now no support and no idea what is going on! I do not want children so now trying to get sterilized with it is hard!

She's had an ostomy bag/bowel resections, multiple surgeries (she's easily into the double-digits now), permanent tens machines to help with the pain. From MY understanding "abnormal body hair" typically refers to stuff like facial hair, belly hair and other dark or thicker patches that pop up where there's not typically noticeable hair. (doesn't mean it's not there. It IS. Just for MOST it's not as noticeable unless you know genetics.) For example most people have facial hair, but most of us who fall under the XX chromosome have a finer hair that's not as noticeable on the face where "typically" XY can grow thicker more noticeable hairs there after puberty (obviously not EVERYONE). OBVIOUSLY that differs from person to person as some of us just have darker hair or thicker hair, but that's just an example. PERSONALLY I found with ME when I was off my birth control for awhile (a few months as I misplaced it by putting it "somewhere safe" and didn't have access to my doctors for awhile ah... WHAT A MESS) the body hair popped up more and grew faster. More belly hairs got darker more noticeable. Eye brows grew a lot faster, the stash got a bit darker (BOO) and the lighter hairs on my face were getting longer in cases. I also found my knees got hairy whereas they weren't noticeably before. However it just depends on the person. It also can affect your head hair. Sadly I got hit with the thinning and nobody would listen to me until well my thick hair turned thin.... (I've had this for 9/10 years and only got diagnosed recently.... )

While hirsutism may be a symptom of underlying abnormalities it isn't harmful in itself so if you've ruled out underlying disease it really comes down to how much you're bothered by it. Harnaam Kaur has embraced having a full-on lady beard (although personally I stick to my hormones to avoid that outcome).

I have dark/thick facial fair. Kind of like a 13-year-old boy's beard/mustache that just started growing, LOL. It concerned my mum, but it didn't bother me, but I'm not super concerned about how I look anyway... I also have extremely thick and dark pubic hair everywhere else. I have more armpit hair than my brother and father. My doctor identified it as hirsutism. And my blood test came back with high testosterone (I have PCOS). I think comparing to your family is probably a good indicator? Since hair growth is partly genetic. Because obviously some women are hairier and it's not PCOS. Unless other members of your family have PCOS, of course... I think if you're wondering about your hair in particular, you should probably talk to your doctor! Of course, I'd also love to see a video on it if she wants to make one. :)

Not even 3 minutes in and I understand why I have PCOS. My gynaecologist said that it's solely due to my weight. She spoke about insulin resistance, and that I fully understood, but not once did she take my chronic medication into account. I already struggle to lose weight because of taking 4 types of medication a day. Even my psychiatrist mentioned that medication alters my reproductive system. But a whole gynaecologist could not take my mental health into account. Just because it's not reproductive hormones being pumped into my body does not mean it doesn't affect it. Thank you for bringing to light another valid reason that makes more sense to someone on chronic medication.

Fuck that Dr. She's clearly projecting her beliefs and perceived moral superiority onto her patients. I hope you found a new Dr. You don't have to answer to her. I've had drs make me feel terrible because they think it's ok to project their opinions about what's right and wrong for me onto me when it's none of their fucking business. I appreciate a Dr that considers my best interest but not when they impose their opinion over my will and how I want to live my life. I had a Dr shame me for going off of a birth control I didn't like because apparently it was irresponsible and she asked me condescending like what I would do if I got pregnant and she shamed me for it. Like it's my business if I want to use condoms and avoid hormones that make me feel shitty. And she was just really judgemental even implied that my partner wouldn't be a good parent and I was just like, "why are you assuming I'd be keeping it?" I fired her after that. She didn't even attempt to understand what I was doing or that I'm not really exactly having a lot of sex and I'm not just raw dogging it with random people. She was just extremely inappropriate. So was your Dr. Hope you conceived by now.
