While this may be a loose style, your precision in placement of each brushstroke comes from your years of experience and artist’s eye. I’m watching thinking “Surely he’s done now…..wait, surely now…oh that looks better…how did he know to do that?!” I love your demos. They’re a meditative experience watching creation take shape. Thank you!

Hi Paul. Peter from Noosa Australia. Great demo. There is nothing like the feeling of loose watercolour, that is once you get used to it. You are soo right in your tips. By the way, just found you so I guess I have some catching up to do. P.S. Paul I hope that some may read this comment, because I am going to tell all that not many artists on utube give of their knowledge and love of giving so generously. You sir are one. More power to you and keep up the good work.

All of your paintings are stunning whether they be loose, abstract or detailed. The humour you always put in each tutorial makes them fun to see every Wednesday. I wish I could appreciate this style but honestly it just looks gosh I don’t know too simple. I love they way talented artists can use a few strokes and entice the viewer into understanding all that is left out but I can’t. Those trees look so u.n.-tree like. They look like blobs of color to me. But you Paul and make anything look lovely so I’ll keep trying to see things your way.

Wow! Your approach is so... approachable. I really dig your sense of humor as well. I've been illustrating for most of my life. I'm 65 now, and just making inroads into watercolor. I'm from Chile, grew up in California, and would love to paint scenes, especially of the lake district or Patagonia in the south of Chile. Thank you for the great tips and advice. Greetings from northern California.

Thank you for this tutorial Paul. I remember watching my Dad paint watercolour landscapes on holidays when I was little. I was always impressed at how he could make abstract shapes look like trees or hills or whatever. I think he may have been inspired by Wesson. My watercolour is a very different style, I rarely paint landscapes, but its always fun to practice a different technique. Thank you for so clearly taking us through the steps. :)

Please don’t ever stop teaching , I’ve just recently found you and Margot and my mind is blown at so much talent and passion in what you do , and you’re both funny to boot ! My passion is art, I’ve always known I’m an artist , just gettin a late start at 52 . It’s been bottled up inside me and I felt like I didn’t know how to express it correctly with watercolor until now, so thank you Paul (which is also my dads name) for all you’ve done for me as an artist !

Thank you for sharing this lovely demo of the loose, Wesson approach. Ron Ranson also had this light, loose but well-planned method. So apparently simple but oh, so difficult. I have no trouble painting more tightly and have been doing so for years and have learned all the skills, thanks to artists' tutorials like yours. However, choosing a good reference photo and trying my best to simplify and loosen up just defies me. Very discouraging. Thanks again.

Really enjoyed this, I am struggling with loose techniques and have started the same painting half a dozen times. This has reminded me of so much I need to apply. Here goes the next and final attempt 👍

That was brilliant. I really enjoyed it. Gonna try a few free and loose pieces. I like the effect, and the end result. It does look painterly. Cheers.
