Number 3 is quite important, I think. The longer you're in a trade, or the longer you trade in general, the greater the risk you have of losing, hence why I think scalping is one of the better ways to trade. By trading for short periods each day, you minimise the overall risk.

This may help others, I have just chosen one exact goal market in sports betting just exactly as you recommend and also limit screen time...the results have been amazing, most if not all of these vids apply to sports trading.Thanks for the help.

As I understand it, a scalper is someone who buys (say, tickets for sporting events) and re-sells them at inflated prices for profit. Is that the same meaning here?

I love this topic.... after 6 months of full-time learning, I think I have naturally landed on 'Super Aggressive Scalping' as my preferred trading style. I'm still not consistently profitable yet (not by a long way) as I've mostly been wildly experimenting with different trading styles and time-frames etc. What I have found that seems to come natural as I am by nature very impatient is to go in super quickly (almost constantly) with a trade in either direction at pretty much 90% of the time.... I find it very hard to sit on my hands and have no trade on the go. This Video has been helpful in boiling down some very useful checkpoints to follow... especially limiting screen-time, as being such an aggressive scalper takes such concentration that it becomes incredibly stressful and tiring. I have noticed over the last 6 months that I haven't been able to define a particular strategy myself that I have tried to learn/master as none of them seem to be anywhere near reliable and I always seem to end up moving away from them and reverting to 'intuition'. I know I've got a lot to do in terms of discipline and mastering trading psychology, but is it completely crazy to trade in that way...? i.e. Not have any set of specific technical triggers to follow (but I do have 3/4 technical indicators running that I do keep an eye on) and rely more heavily on price action and intuitive analysis etc... ? I can make 30/40 trades a day.... It's a very stressful way to trade I realize, but I have no patience or trust in technical and longer term trading styles. Does anyone else trade (successfully) in this way? I apply 1% risk to just a 4 pip stop on the EUR/$ on Forex.. and hope to take a 1:1 win, but will take less.... I do also try and hold a position as and when I feel I have caught the beginning of a bigger move/trend.

i trade the daily chart but usually check lower TF when the daily signals get trigered, i try to add like scalping if i see a clear wave in a lower TF like M30-H4 to stay less time in the market. i do this because i started like you being impatient and always from M1+tick chart to M15 i used a combinatiom of what i called doble resolution stochastic, mixing M15 and M30 on one indicator just by using doble amount of periods on a M15 should be like a "leading M30" and it is from a digital procesing math perspective, (thats because my school background on digital audio and sythetiser music i know very well how behave the armonic impulses when i see it in front of my eyes) used this too on a Money ""Flow"" Index, and making a quick estimation of market activity looking at Tick volume indicator and the tick chart itself, making it very big to see how fast is going like 50 ticks per minute (30 at the end of a candle and 20 more on the second for example, making the average "on the fly" always) and a "healthy fast" tick chart was my main signal. was very good profit, i was making between 12-13% on the bad weeks and 23-31% a week on a little 200€ account. but after one month i ended feeling veeeeery exhausted and losed 60% on the next 3 weeks because i was very new and stresed, and changed to daily charts and the idea i said before :D i felt very beated at this time because the stress, and having a part time job dont let me relax enough i feel, but i really think scalping can be done well, but i learned was jut not for me because the accumulative exahustion and having another job burns me out so hard. i was making like 80 trades during 2-3 days every week because my part time job. Take care of exhaustion in a long term perspective, in my case was like accumulative exhaustion during that month. i usually go back to scalp some M5 or M1 but always when daily signals are in movement, but sure you can go your way and be profitable, just know very well when the market is really moving well,and well means fitting your strategy ;) its hard because the market dont move well during days-weeks at the times you can be in front of the screen because bigger market cycles. sorry for the wall text, just my little experience with agresive sacalping :D

I stumbled into this as well, over a year ago. All the conventional educational material and books talk about H1, H4, D1, etc. But my personality has been shaped by the things I do, right: tons of computer gaming, swordfighting, amateur racing, parkour -- I'm not good at being the patient sniper or hunter. I prefer to surf and roll with the action, using constant micro-adjustments and split second choices to steer a single big decision. There are a few books on scalping, with some good concepts, but they still didn't generalize principles broadly enough for me, or provide the kind of clear, boneheaded simple 1 2 3 checklist I personally need for making entry/exit decisions. There are some philosophical trade-offs for scalping. Any lower versus higher timeframe trades off seeing the leaves on the trees versus the whole forest, so either you'll be well late into a trend or you're so busy chasing pips you don't see the trend happening. The bad: you're not in the market when you're not sitting at the computer, trading. If price moves 200 pips overnight during London session and you were sleeping, well, too bad. The good: You're not in the market when you're not sitting at the computer (see below, JPY flash crash) -- sitting in cash when disaster strikes is a trading decision. You may not make money, but at least you don't lose any, either. You can't play if you can't pay. I use 2% risk with a 2 pip stop mostly on EU and UJ (but I do not put all my risk capital in my account, so I'm probably trading with .5% risk of overall funds). Any pair with lowest spreads will do, but only the majors qualify, primarily; crosses tend to be too expensive with spread, and exotics are like throwing money at your broker. I aim for 1:2 up to 1:10 as my set-up, but I keep an automatic trailing stop (based on ATR), and do not use fixed TPs to ride the same higher timeframe (HTF) trends you are seeing -- some scalpers call it holding onto a runner. I also do some partial closes at overall break-even to set up risk-free trades. I have some very specific but frequent conditions for my entries (see below). In 4 hours, I might see 5-10 set-ups, and do multiple partial entries to leg into the trade, committing more as the price action goes my way. I don't usually bother counting my entries/exits, but one day early on that really burned me out was 72 trades (I've backed off from that). It also helps to find your groove and let the trading happen, at this pace. I still stress, but not as much as I used to, b/c I'm getting acclimatized to the rhythm of constant wins and losses. That same 72-trade day now might be even more trades, but feel less stressful. Or fewer trades, and again less stressful. :D If you want to find consistency, you will need to get methodical, track all your trades, and define what makes your intuition work or not work. Scalping has no room for fuzzy feelings about a trade. You're right or wrong pretty quick, when you try to scalp a small, clean move. M1 and M5 charts will fail you in times of extreme market volatility, for example the JPY flash crash after New Year's. However, M1 still gave some small but clear signs to NOT BUY, and look for sell entries for a few hours before the big kahuna landed. 20 minutes before the crash, M1 also gave some immediate warning signs that something big was about to happen. Anyone trading H1 etc got blindsided. However, I prefer charts not dependent on time -- tick charts. You HAVE to get a grip on MTF analysis (multiple timeframe) with these. It's a simple idea, but may be tough at first to get the mental picture in live trading. If there are 60 M1 candles inside an H1 candle, you get higher resolution pictures or video of price movement inside that H1 period. Same thing with ticks. Tick data are broker-dependent, so your numbers may vary. I see about 100 ticks per minute (more or less depending on market activity), so with a 10-tick chart, I'm seeing 10 tiny candles inside a single M1 candle. Not absolutely necessary -- M1 timeframe will do OK in many cases, and you can learn to read open candles (the most recent candle that's still forming) with practice. The best entry/exit points come and go in about 5-20 seconds. Average to bad entry/exit windows last 2-10 minutes maybe. And always always have an eye on HTF trend. Otherwise, my trading method has become grossly simple over time. I've tried tons of indicators, and probably more types of moving averages than you've heard of (less than a dozen, though). :D I've thrown them all out, b/c they lag, they can't help predict price targets, etc. Support resistance (two automatic, mechanical types, none hand-drawn), trendlines (both micro trend and HTF), price action (simple higher highs/lows, lower lows/highs), and the classic trend following SR break, retest, confirmation, entry. Either my trailing stop or a trend following entry in the opposite direction is my signal to get out and possibly reverse, whichever comes first.

Look up the scalping videos Mark's done, on the 5 minute and 10 minute timeframe. Work well (but not 100% obviously) some really great strategies with stochastic and rsi. And use the ATR as well. Plenty to pick from. Just remember that no indictor works every time in every market condition. Be lucky 👍

Sorry for the long delay in answering. Not that I know of - there are a few old classic tape reading books out there which are still useful for getting a feel about how price changes short term though. I recommend just spending the time you would on a book just watching your preferred market at key levels only. So when it hits Highs/Lows/Closes then watch price like a hawk to see how it moves and how it responds to breaks, pauses, big runs, fakes etc. That is better than any book :-)

@Makerdude23
@Makerdude23 5 жыл бұрын
Great videos as always. I've found that the hardest part of scalping is slippage and commissions. You need to be twice as right as when you're wrong. In the dow micros it seems you need to add 5 ticks to the losing side and deduct 5 from the winners. 3 ticks to cover the commission with a few cents left of profit, and then 2 ticks slippage. That's when the market is moving around at a good clip. That means your 5 tick loser really equals 10 ticks and your 10 tick winner really equals 5 ticks. Not always that cut and dry but often enough it is. Scalping really is a tough way to trade when you're not really in sync with your market. You should do a video on the real effect of slippage and commissions. It's a major barrier to profitability.
